    I think some are seeing the 4D as a step up from the typical A7s RS2 setup and that’s fine, I see where that part of the market is coming from.
    I’m a 6K Red Dragon and Ronin 2 owner with both the Ready Rig and ArmorMan 2.0 vests and a Segway… I’m looking at the 4D in a different way, so for me this video shows how light and versatile the 4D is.
    What I’m interested in is overall image quality with some standard meter rated tests and how far the gimbal can be tuned in its smooth track/majestic mode.

    The 4D is sooo good, I could tell mostly due to the 4D's spot-on focusing in each shot. DJI has really put together an incredible tool for film makers. I want one, but there is no way I can justify the cost. I could definitely see the 4D being perfect for wedding cinematographers who are often a one-man team and the 4D isn't priced out of range for it to make sense.

    • @NVIK5
      @NVIK5 Před 2 lety

      No offence, but the 4D's focusing is much weaker than the Sony's.... It does not have eye detect autofocus and it always focuses on the closers part of the face. Watch the DPreview vide on this. Image quality wise it is pretty much the same.

    • @PavelNebo

    This is so interesting to me. I have an a7s3. And love it. I do a lot of run and gun on site shoots for my clients. And the pace is usually pretty high.
    I am so interested in the 4d. And now that I have my camera rigged out, I wonder if I made the right decision. Stabilization in a fast paced environment is so important to me. It seems like the 4d would be great. Although 8-10 hours of it might break my back. Lol.

    I had a dream last night about a camera that has auto-iso for the subject(s). In essence, the part of the sensor that is picking up the subject (when exposure is needed) would have increased iso while areas that do not need increased exposure would remain the same. This would allow for a greater dynamic range and close the gap between cameras and smart phones. what are you thoughts?

    • @str8poisintv131
      @str8poisintv131 Před 2 lety +1

      I'm saying u can just ....change the metering mode... (khaby labe face 🤷🏾‍♂️) If you are on a newer sony camera try using "large spot" multi or entire screen average modes...those work for me...give it a try.

      @adventureedit5776 Před 2 lety +1

      Metering mode!!

    • @flochfitness
      @flochfitness Před 2 lety +2

      @@str8poisintv131 sorry, maybe I am not being clear. If you use metering, the entirety of the shot is changed based on the meter. I’m saying the exposure of ONLY the subject would change and the background would be separate. Does that make sense?

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux Před 2 lety +6

      @@flochfitness something like this exists that’s called a dual gain sensor. Every other line of pixels records at a higher iso level so that you can have a higher dynamic range. This a more reliable method because it doesn’t require the camera to figure out what part of the sensor to increase the iso for. For example, the fake blur on the iPhone camera does a pretty okay job but it often misses things or the edges of a subject might not be quite right. So imagine that same thing applied to iso, the camera wouldn’t know exactly where to boost it perfectly. So with dual gain, it’s basically recording the image with a low iso and high iso at the same time so you can push and pull the highlights and shadows yourself in editing. I think these sensors will become more common as technology improves because as you can imagine, it takes a lot of power and generates a lot of heat to for a camera to do this. Arri has been doing it for years and the canon c300 mkIII are some cameras that do this and have really high dynamic range (and a large body for cooling and a large price lol)

    I really think it’s a thought-provoking video but at the end of the day it depends what you’re shooting I opted not to go for the 4D simply because of what I shoot and how I shoot, I use a mixture of red and Sony camera alphas whether they are on a gimbal with a steady cam or I fly them with a money shot, I think at the end of the day it depends on the niche that we choose to be identified for our work my personal preference for you running through the forest would have been to have used a camera of choice on the money shot it would be smoother than any stabiliser but it’s just my style of shooting keep up the great work it always awesome

  • @justkeepdigging1956

    Really interesting video- the biggest issue for me is glass. Both of these systems would require new lenses which nowadays is more of an issue than the price of the camera body. If the DJi prime lenses for the 4D are reasonably priced then they might get more people like me to invest in their entire system- the Sony G master lenses are eye wateringly expensive for the level of work I do.

      as a pro shooter making TV commercials, I like the idea of the DJI 4D due to its size and not having to carry the Ronin M around. Its embarrassing turning up for a $5000 shoot with a Sony. I have 2 sonys already so would use one for photos and the DJI for video.

    The DJI is not meant for individual shooters. It’s designed to make everything that you normally have a on proper set more efficient. If, as a cinematographer, you’re not also working with (at a minimum) a 1st AC and a director, then there’s no strong argument for it. If you are, it’s potentially a huge step forward.

    I say it ight be worth renting a ronin 4d when needed for action shot material. and owning a sony for a good old standby. I found its about $500 to rental a ronin 4d for 7 days.

    I wish there was a smaller/cheaper version of the Ronin 4D. Like a Sony ZV-1 size version for us cheaper youtube scrubs.
    This camera (DJI) with all the accessories is WAY to expensive for what it is.

      @@conner_productions Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit but if you opt for the monitor and a few lenses you're quickly over 10k €. Over- or underpriced, that's a lot of money and puts it in a weird market place in my opinion. Something for indie film makers maybe?

    i rhink it is the better Option for my personal usage
    I had the A7SII and owe a A7III actual
    Both still great Cameras
    But if i could test the Ronin 4D, i would say yes ;)

    My A7s iii with the DJI RS2 are a killer combo. And lighter than the ronin 4d. More lenses and the 4d audio isn’t good I hear.

      In my personal opinion an apsc mirrorless is the best for the beginner. Canon and Sony should be the choice because of the autofocus.

      What about the Fuji xt200

    • @kapilesh14
      @kapilesh14 Před 2 lety +1

      @@edddiengdoh7819 Any Fuji camera is fantastic if you are primarily into photography. Because they focus on that aspect a lot. XT 200 is a great beginner photography camera but it is not a reliable video camera at all. ZV 1, though a smaller sensor comes with built in lens and nd filters. Both are similarly priced so ZV 1 crushes XT 200 in value, autofocus and video performance. Now, it depends on your interest, if you are into photography a lot than I would suggest Canon m50 mark ii. It would be better than Fuji.

    I could only tell the right one was the a7siii because of the focal length, it looked wider than the ronin and I know the ronin only goes as wide as 24 with a prime.
    But that's provided you were using a dji lens lol.

    Ronin lenses max out at 50mm. What's the longest lens it'll take? (Official list includes 105s) Gimbals for telephotos seem nonexistent. Imagine the Nikon 300mm PF on it. It weighs 755 grams, the Sony 100mm 700. Possible?
