I work at a cinema and can confirm that everybody is going to see these movies this weekend. It’s been unbelievable to see so many people come in pink and just so many people go to the cinema it’s great and inspiring to see as someone who loves movies and going to the movies. It’s great that people are actually going out to see it’s box office release instead of waiting for streaming platforms. However can also say I am exhausted😅
greta gerwig is an incredibly talented filmmaker, i love how she puts so much old-movie references and inspirations into her movies, how much attention to detail she pays and how she truly respects the art of filmmaking in general. she managed to infuse barbie with a humanity that is admirable and real
Lmao what are you talking about. Barbie was trash
@@samdeezi5187😂😂 that'true
She's so incredibly well spoken. It's like she has a the perfect metaphor/simile/ whatever for any given emotion or idea she's attempting to express in these interviews, I immediately understand what she means
For the Greta Gerwig interview alone, thank you. I hope this film receives all the accolades it deserves💞
Do you think Greta Gerwig likes Barbie? She dressed in complete black for this interview. Her plot also suggests something similar to Barbie's main character.
@@Son0fFalse I’m unsure what you’re asking. Are you referring to the film or the doll? Also, she’s worn all sorts of other colors for multiple interviews. Considering she’s the director/writer, she’s not expected to wear pink as much as an actor portraying a Barbie would.
@@QueenInCursive do you think she likes the doll? Do you think she likes what it represents in her movie? Greta used Barbie as a symbol created by generations of repression , when I saw her adaptation of Barbie in the film.
@@Son0fFalse When it comes to the doll, Greta’s mentioned growing up with her Mother having mixed feelings about it. And because of that, it made her more interested in investigating it for herself. I think she brought that same intrigue and desire for investigation to the film. Greta said that she didn’t want to direct/write Barbie unless she was able to explore all aspects and perspectives on the doll.
@@QueenInCursive Mixed feelings seem quite modest to her. I like the thought you have and the answer you gave. Exploring all perspectives was a very great answer! Who is the protagonist of the film?
Is it not men?
Having seen 2001 when it was released in 1968 in the Cooper Cinerama theater in Denver, I totally lost it when I saw Barbie yesterday at the opening scene when I first heard the Gyorgy Ligeti Requiem and couldn't stop until the doll turned into the Barbie logo to the tune of Also Sprach Zarathustra. I recognized the shots and each one was hysterical. It was PERFECT, not only as a parody of the original movie but also as a metaphor for the 'dawn' of a new doll.
I'm going to buy a Blue Ray of this movie just to watch the opening scene again . . . .
As someone who has been looking forward to this movie and the interview with Greta for many many months, thank you for doing such a wonderful, insightful, and fun interview! Seeing Barbie tonight and Oppenheimer tomorrow! What and incredible moment to be a film lover. Love you guys 💗💗
love these all encompasing videos, you get your interview, your film school, your movie talk and more you get all of it in one package
Kevin saying this is Nolan's best film is the most significant endorsement anyone could possibly give for Oppenheimer.
@@timothynommensen have you seen Oppenheimer? Also Memento is near the bottom of my Nolan list, despite being fantastic.
No
@@timothynommensenhell no
@@timothynommensenLLLL
Or just hyperbole.
I adore Greta. Cant wait to follow her career for a long long time!!!
Thanks for such a lovely interview with Greta! She's super easy to root for - appreciated the technical discussion as well. All of it makes me want to go back and rewatch it.
Thank you so much for getting Greta 🥹💕
After watching your interview guys, I'm dying to see the film for a second time (I loved it the first!) Thank you for sharing your passion for film, and for doing interviews like this.
I liked her talking about how everything was done practically. Oppenheimer also didn’t use CGI and Mission Impossible obviously uses real stunts. We like real shit in the theaters! Not AI
Btw, people need to acknowledge that Barbie reached 160+ mil opening weekend without the most expensive cinema tickets. Im talking of no IMAX and maybe half of Dolby Cinemas?
Everyone is ready to point out Oppy is R rated 3hr film, but it got the premium theaters.
My IMAX showing was completely full for Oppenheimer and that was surprising to see for a film like this but wow what a magnicifent film. Every aspect of it was just phenomenal. 3 hours just soared by.
I was really looking forward to this podcast. Thank you!
Kevin and Jake... Nice job on the suits.
Awesome bringing in Greta Gerwig. So awesome to hear from her
Just saw it and loved it! I agree with Sean that it reminded me of Oliver Stones JFK but even better! Man the very ending with Einstein blew me away
Such a good interview.
Jake to the guest every episode: "You're on the right podcast!" I love it.
What a wonderful interview!😃
I enjoyed the Barbie movie. Margot Robbie is PERFECT casting!😃
My FAVORITE Barbie is Teresa. She’s absolutely breathtaking!💖 I also love Barbie nemesis, Raquelle.😄 I hope we see them in the sequel!!😃 🎶come on Barbie let’s go party🎶😃
Love Great Gerwig! What an incredible imagination she has.
Truthfully, i initially had zero intention of watching Barbie. However, word of mouth has persuaded me, and will see it tomorrow.
Going to see Barbie and oppenheimer later today will watch both the episodes back to back after I see both of the movies huge month for the guys so happy for you guys
I can wait for dvd extra...i hope there's lot of commentaries on the extras.
Great interview with Greta and wonderful conversation about Oppenheimer. Nolan just did such a masterful job with the movie.. and the cast was so amazing. That movie is a 10/10. So great that we have such great movies to see in the theaters. Will be checking out Barbie and other movies in the weeks ahead. Great episode!
This is the best interview
Could not have loved and appreciated oppenheimer more than i did and do. That being said, respectfully Kevin could not be more melodramatic about being terrified everyday after seeing this movie 😂😂
love nolan and excied for oppenheimer but i wish this video had focused more completely on greta and the barbie movie :-). great interview!
Downey Jr is a lock. It’s the Salieri role from Amadeus. He thought Oppenheimer was trying to ruin his reputation at every turn and took it all so personally. In reality, Oppenheimer never even considered Strauss. Oppenheimer was haunted. He was simply trying to prevent his creation from escalating to the point of no return, and Strauss never even entered the picture in his mind.
So… I just watched the Vanity Fair interview and RDJ actually mentions Salieri specifically as a large part of how he and Nolan saw this guy. I swear I hadn’t seen the interview before I commented this hahahaha. But it did make me feel good to have my independent thought validated like that lol.
Ok the bts footage of the pink carpet hallways got a thumbs up
The way they used their F word in the final film was hilarious - reminded me of Craig Ferguson.
What'sa comin-a-go!
I can’t remember when they used the F bomb.😃 Could you describe the scene?
@@oldhollywoodfan8009
The president swears near the end and her mouth is covered up by a Mattel sign. It’s fucking perfect! 😂
@@PurushaDesa Oh that’s right!😂 Thank you very much!!😊
I recently did an Asteroid City/No Hard Feelings double header. It played!
Barbenheimer episodes were a success great work boys
It’s good to see two guys not hating the movie because it is allegedly „man hating“. Lots of other male movie critics hated on it for being misandrist. I would have liked to know what Greta would have said to that.
Thanks guys for that fun video ❤
Loved this interview with Greta Gerwig. Thank you!
When I was in college I went to see Avengers, The Winter Soldier, and Age of Ultron back to back to back, it was nuts. Ironically during the session I preferred the first two movies but the theater was buzzing with people who were excited, it was a great time all around. I'd also done something similar for the Hobbit trilogy, that one was more of a dud.
The interview with Greta was brilliant, I know her only by reputation but hearing her talk about her work was so cool to see, and after seeing Barbie today I'm definitely going to check out her other movies. I thought what she did with Barbie was phenomenal and it's a top 3 movie of the year for me. Almost everything clicked for me and I had a blast watching it. America and Ryan were also my standouts, I had no idea Ryan Gosling had something like that in him, I'm glad that he proved me wrong.
Oppenheimer was just a colossus of a movie. I went to the midnight opening and the theater was like 80% full, which is not something you'd expect for a 3 hour biopic at midnight, especially where I live. The movie blew me away, when I realized that even the slower scenes were in IMAX I was hooked. Usually I always see Cillian as Cillian whenever he plays a part because he has such a distinctive face, in this he just completely disappeared into the role. The entire supporting cast (and holy shit there's a lot of them) was also wonderful. I wanted to scream when I saw Josh Peck, he only had like 3 minutes of screentime but even in that, you felt his characters feelings. The movie is a testament to how many great actors want to work with Nolan and WHY they want to, he is honestly on top of his game.
I agree with Kevin's take that Oppenheimer is Nolan's best movie even though Interstellar is his favorite. I liked Barbie more because it was just more fun and whimsical, but at the same time I think Oppenheimer is better than anything else that's come out this year so far. In either case I will be rewatching both at least two more times before they leave theaters and I will love each viewing.
Great episode as always guys!
For more comedy Ryan I'd recommend The Nice Guys, Crazy Stupid Love and the Avatar Papyrus sketch. He also did a bit on Kimmel with Will Ferrell that's pretty silly too. And I love to throw in the place where I first discovered him as a kid, the Canadian show Breaker High, it's a high school on a boat!
Speaking of Blue Beetle, I think you can still have these director interviews for ReelBlend since they're allowed, especially Haunted Mansion, Blue Beetle, and Gran Turismo are coming up soon!
Loved these discussions, thanks for the quality coverage of these two incredible films. I’ve never done a double feature in theatre before and this felt really special. I booked Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm and then later decided to go all in with a Barbie screening before Oppy. It was a day of movie magic, and a feeling that I haven’t had since maybe Avengers Endgame.
I loved the GG interview she was so engaging unbelievable nothing that I expected well done guys
This is thoroughly fascinating ☺️
I need those pink suits! where did you get them???
I love interviews when interviewers know what they were talking about! So lovely! I love Greta Gerwig I think she is gonna be one of the greats!
Love Greta’s filmography!!! Can’t wait to see this and Opp next week. Quite a few bitter film bros in the comments lol.
I'm going to hold off from watching most of this interview, sorry guys, but I’ve only had the chance to catch Oppenheimer, not Barbie yet and want to go in knowing as little as possible. But, Oppenheimer.... wow! From the acting to the score to the cinematography, the movie is amazing. In my opinion, 2023 has been filled with action movies that haven’t focused as much on the script - Mission, Fast X, John Wick - don’t get me wrong, I love these movies and they were all on my most anticipated of the year. But, Oppenheimer delivers on every aspect of the filmmaking process. I saw it in IMAX and plan to see it in 70mm once Toronto figures out the technical difficulties it experienced last night. Amazing movie and I’m looking forward to seeing it again and hearing what others thought! Keep up the great work and sorry this video will have one less view for a few days.
My last double Feature in the theatre was at TIFF - Weird: The Al Yankovic Story followed by Biosphere
Just to let you know Vaughan and Mississauga both have IMAX 70mm and don't seem to be having the same issues as the Varsity!
Greta is such a joy in this interview 🙌
Great film, great interview!
Love the suit guys
What a fun channel. I'm glad i found you! My last double feature? Maybe it was a triple...Lord of the Rings.
Hell yes! I’ve been waiting for this all week! 🤩 #NotificationCrew
Good morning!!
I do double features a few times a year I think. I saw Elemental, mission impossible and Spider-verse on Sunday.
Now that’s a great Sunday!!
Sean, with the proper fit of suit, you can totally rock a pink suit. I was wondering, were Jake and Kevin the only journalists in pink suits?
I agree with you all about Oppenheimer. It’s Nolan’s best, very 12 angry men with one of the greatest scores in cinema history. Disagree it felt 70 mins defo felt 2 and a half + hours but that’s no bad thing. It’s got a 10/10 for me right now one of 5 films that personally get that rating for me and the fourth best film I’ve seen. Again in my opinion. Cillian was excellent but didn’t seem as outstanding as I thought he was gonna be. I was expecting a DDL in TWBB kind of performance but it didn’t stand out as much as that one did for me. But (not to say anything like TWBB’s supporting actors weren’t good) the whole cast gave their peak performances which is why that Cillian doesn’t stand out AS much as I thought. But that’s cos everyone else was amazing. Nolan is a genius. One of the greatest cinema experiences in my life, second time ever in IMAX. My third time will be next Friday which will be Oppenheimer again. Can’t wait!
Gabe hair is awesome
Am I the only one who saw a Ken liberation storyline, lol?
OMG did not know Push was an actual song. Crazy.
He almost made it to be one of five guys singing I Want It That Way for the rest of his life. But no. Ryan will be the guy in pink doing I'm Just Ken... I love it.
I took 6 hours bus to see Oppenheimer in IMAX,
Glad to see some Matchbox Twenty love out there. That scene cracked me up but I felt seen😂
A "Dunktrip" ad campaign in 2017 would have been nice.
Please change the format so it's actually full screen.
I hope that there is a second Barbie movie and television series. It would be a big hit. It was a great movie!
Looking forward to seeing Oppenheimer too!
Greta you adorable human being. I just adore you and your rise as a creative genius. From one Cali girl to another, cheers!
Discovered the podcast but HAD to come find the video for the visuals after hearing the about the pink camera and suits (looking fabulous!) And what a fantastic interview with Greta Gerwig, I could listen to y'all talk for hours, great questions and I love her enthusiasm for the art of filmmaking 🩷
Welcome to ReelBlend!
Love that joke getting that sweater
A surprising number of reactions to the opening have been critical of suggesting children destroy their toys with violence and some actually equate it with killing infants.
Jakes background been bugging me for a while
that shit is not lined up 🙂
Greta Gerwig is an interesting filmmaker.
I think Jason Clarke could even be nominated for supporting actor, unreal performance
Anyone else miss ReelBlend Premium?
I miss having it as a fun Monday treat. I'd almost want that to still be the case just without the paywall. It's nice folded into the show but there's something about it not being in the main show that I like too.
The rule is they're not supposed to promote the movie during the strike. Yet the cast of Barbie, Blue Beetle, etc. Are breaking the rule. Only the Oppenheimer Cast Obeyed.
5:42 For anyone interested in Greta Gerwig.
Everything before that is an extended chat about another director's release dates.
Greta. If you read this. I would DIE to be your padawan
"this is not a Barbie Movie".-🏆⚖️🍼
Barbie made over 700 million
take a shot of tequila everytime she says ¨you know¨ and ¨ and...like¨ in the interview and you will die by the end....
They swapped their clothes.
Greta always sounds like she's crying 😊
You are never doing yourself's a favour in titling your videos or shorts, a lot of the time your podcast does not come up high when searching it on the engine
put the name of your podcast in the title, you don't have to use sentences and ' ' etc.
Kevin has officially lost his mind lol. I think he may need like a doctor or something 🤣🤣
"sore losers"-✝️🛐🍼
Honestly, the person that saw this movie in a negative way, their minds are corrupted with negativity and pure garbage.
I watch these interviews , praying Margot would apologize to her fan's , not for making this movie but for marketing it to children. Many beautiful woman are ugly on the inside and Margot is proving to be know different than them. Children ??? Rise above it Margot , you have it in you .
Sad that gerwig is not naked in barbie
Honestly this is just a really hard podcast to watch I'm not a fan of you guys I'm only here because of the Barbie movie but I've watched every other interview and you guys talking to each other is a whole mess of emotions maybe you should all get some therapy individually and possibly together because it can read it in your eyes and your tone and how the one guys always cut in the other guy off and talking over each other it's just like toxic and gives me a stomachache so I'm over it and won't be coming back. This is mine as a word of inspiration for y'all the truth hurts sometimes I'm not here to offend just letting you know so you can do with it what you want
Interview w Gerwig and then they go on about Nolan forever at the beginning
Kevin is so cringe, pretending like he caught the Strangelove tribute or knew who some random painter is. The best part of this episode was when Sean transitioned as Kevin was still talking. Unfortunately he moved to Kevin's Oppenheimer reaction where repeated the same points over and over again. Cut him off more. I beg you.
Love this show, but unless I missed it, it’s pretty disappointing you didn’t even address/touch Sound of Freedom these past few weeks, especially with what it’s doing at the box office. Seems cowardly.
It’s called self censorship which is cowardly but understandable
Oppenheimer (fantastic 9/10)
Barbie (disappointing 6/10)
You needed to be reminded that Downey can act? Endgame came out just 4 years ago.
wtf is up with the sound mix in this interview
Youd rather go to vacation than talk to greta gerwig for 40 minutes⁉️🤦🏻♂️
