I really enjoyed this, particularly the interview with Greta. It's interesting how I've seen people say the movie is "surface-level feminism" while still expecting ONE SINGLE MOVIE written and directed by a woman to enlighten society. I think that kind of proves the movie's point-I've NEVER seen criticism of a male writer/director's movie that it's not completely addressing every societal issue it tackles. The double standard for women is just constant.

The contrast between seeing the behind the scenes of Barbie and then seeing Oppenheimer is so wild and amazing. Of course, they are two very different movies, but the fact that both directors (Gerwig and Nolan) build all the sets for their movies shows how much they went far and beyond to create their own vision of the story they wanted to tell and bring it to the audience on the biggest screen possible
Honestly though. Its been a long time since a current theatre lineup has had me THIS excited to go to the movies. Its been YEARS lol

I love Greta Gerwig's message for girls about "enoughness". I struggled to get that message - and suffered bc of it - until I became a mom, so I want to instill it in my daughter as well. Can't wait to see this movie, frankly

Her version of Little Women is a MASTERPIECE. Also loved Ladybird. So I'm not surprised with what she's done with the Barbie story that it's become a runaway hit. But hopefully even when she's directing big blockbusters, people remember her brilliant work with indie films!
I just got out of this movie. As a very dads dad kinda guy i couldnt have been more entertained. It was hilarious, i was holding back tears a fee times, i took my 12 year old daughter and it was amazing. I went into this thinking im taking my kid to a movie and found myself loving it in my own sense which was both unexpected and touching.

I feel that some of us can identify with Allan for being the outcast in the community. The actor's soft spoken nature and awkward-like demeanour suit the character extremely well.
I agree Ryan is completely magical in this film. I think he shows up with the great actors after this film. Loved it!
I'm thinking Sasha has just exposed the core storyline, definitely a coming of age story with a Matrix style twist. It's going to be incredible.
I hope both subplots (Barbie and Sasha trying to find their own self-identity) work because this might be the biggest Trojan horse in the cinematic history

Just saw the movie yesterday and loved it. The ken issue is something I experienced myself because I never played with barbies as a young girl but always with kens. My friends would always make fun of me because of it 😂

My two favorite surprises of the film were hands down Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie and John Cena as Merman Ken. Serving a Fabio vibe with long lush hair. It was so delightful. I also really loved that Weird Barbie got such a cool outfit change.

Gosh when you guys replayed the shorter trailer version you fast forwarded past one of the best parts-when Ken sings the verse about how she sees him as a friend and makes a heart. Ryan Gosling really nails his 80’s Journey/Meatloaf/Queen/Rick Springfield vibe

weird barbies rise!!! i'm a doll collector and mainly find dolls at thrift stores and i'm telling you lol these girls have SEEN things!! the chewed feet, the absolutely WILD haircuts, the near-permanent nail polish bodysuits.. oh those girls have seen it all. i'm so excited for this movie it's unreal. if mattel ever wants to make weird barbie into a doll for the movie they basically already have my money lol

Ryan was the all star, the mvp, he really showed up and dominated. I remember when they released the cast and I will be totally honest-I was a little surprised. He is an incredibly talented actor, but I guess the buzz was largely around Margot and how perfect she fit the role. Well, she dominated of course but Ryan was just out of this Barbie universe, out of the real world, out of every other dimension combined. He was Ken. He embodied Kenergy, he was Kenawesome, Kenfantastic, Kencredible, every other silly ken mash up combined!
Greta of course is fantastic and it was just a good, feel good, funny, witty, a little bit satire, enlightening, nostalgic, the feels perfect summer movie. 💜

As a kid, one of the most profoundly extravagant and absolutely appreciated Xmas gifts I every received from my parents was a Barbie Dreamhouse in the early 70's.
I can still recall that thrill all these decades later.
Barbie was beauty, singular success, style and perfection all in the palm of your hand. I was actually in conflict with the color pink as a tomboy, though. Took years but I eventually embraced the joy of the very feminine color even as a feminist.
As a girl who played with barbies and always thought that Ken was the only Barbie boyfriend, I did not like Ryan for this role. I thought he did not look like Ken at all, but after watching the movie, now I don’t think there would be a better Ken than Ryan Goslin

Hahahaha I am over 70 years old and I remember getting my first Barbie and Ken doll. Actually, I got an Alan doll too. I did not like Alan. Weirdly, I still have Barbie's first black and white swimsuit. Can't wait to see if my grandkids will go to this movie with me. What I remember best is the amazing quality of the clothing provided by Mattel. That's crazy to remember that detail....
