- We like to review a wide range of wrestling here on The Shuvit Show and today it’s the first few episodes of MTV Wrestling Society X. There’s a few faces you should be familiar with like X-Pac and Justin Incredible and it looks like a prototype for Lucha Underground.

It's worth mentioning that the "fake Patriot" guy is Colt Cabana as Matt Classic.

I remember when all the big wwf ppvs used to air on sky movies.
I remember that it was also on channel 4 (UK Tv station) for awhile
I used to get the ppvs for free at my grandmother's house with one of those boxes.
Here's a few ways (off the top of my head) that could've made WSX survive at least a bit longer:
--1) Hour-long episodes instead of 30 minutes.
--2) No explosions/crappy effects.
--3) Air it late Friday/Saturday nights.
--4) Kicks and punches.
Get rid of the cuts - which I guess they would have been able to do if the show wasn't so short.

Please do the rest of it! WSX deserves to be shown; It's so batshit crazy, that it deserves as much exposure as it can get.

I LOVED WSX completely unironically. It was trash but if they'd give them an hour per episode it would have been 100x better, I think.

Genki Horiguchi's hairline was actually part of his gimmick. He was the first of the original Toryumon dojo guys to start balding, and fans would taunt him chanting "HAGE! HAGE!" meaning "bald" at him, and getting indignant about this with a "WHO HAS CALLED ME HAGE??!?!?!" catchphrase and trying various haircut means of self-denial became part of what he was known for.
I remember watching this as a kid when I still believed everything in wrestling. I only saw the match between X-Pac and Vampiro, I marked out so hard for the Tombstone spot. I tried to watch it again the next week but something else was on and I never saw it again until years later on the Internet.
Gee, I wonder why it wasn't on again.
The dvd set was great because it featured the web shows which featured full matches.
Loved WSX. Yeah it was a spotfest but it offered something different than what the WWE were doing at the time. Was something of a precursor to Lucha Underground.
The guy you affectionately called Steve-O is Joey Kaos from XPW. He runs a wrestling school in Bell Gardens in Los Angeles County, California. I trained there for a couple months but quit because I ended up getting this job I really wanted and couldn’t dedicate the time to wrestling school. Joey’s a cool guy tho. Very passionate about wrestling.

I love it how the only 2 examples of the "shows with an adult theme" are Jackass and Beavis and Butthead. 2007 was a golden age.

Fun fact, he had a whole character arc about being insecure about that in Dragon Gate after crowds started chanting "H-A-G-E" (spelling out the Japanese word for "bald") at him. And then he starting having just about the weirdest hairstyle in wrestling history. Shaved most of his head, but kept a ponytail at the back, braided it and dyed it rainbow-coloured. Also his finisher is a backslide, it's awesome.

I never knew this show was a thing. Seeing Zakk Wylde (who's also a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band for those who didn't know) at a wrestling show is cool.
I love that during the late 90s till the early 2010’s Zakk Wylde was trying to show up to as many wrestling show tapings as possible.
His appearance on Aqua Teen Hunger Force made for one of their best episodes. He was hilarious 😂

I will say this wsx wasn’t terrible but the editing and 30 minutes (which remembers had commercials) was not enough time. Sad we will never see the unedited stuff from the shows.

Jack Evans was a lot better in the Indies when he cared. Once he became a jobber in AEW he just decided to get fat and do sloppy flip flops all over the ring with the accuracy of birdshot at 50 yards.

There was Another WSX show called WSX Extra with off the air matches.
some of the wrestlers that apeared were Seth Rollins, Jimmy Jacobs, Colt Cabana or Scorpio Sky.
Also i Heard that a producer wanted PAC (Neville in WWE) and el Genérico (Sami Zayn) for The season 2 that never came along with a new title belt with a similar concept to TNA's X Division
I remember watching one or two episodes of this show. One thing I'll remember is that Seth Rollins was in one of the episodes. I also find it funny that in the first episode, you have two guys that are currently employed in AEW.
That show was crazy 🤣. An entertaining train wreck. An having Henry Rollins on commentary was a welcome surprise. An I do enjoy me some vamperio.
Seeing new jack just made me happy 10/10
Legend has it, the cuts were even too much for Kevin Dunn.
Loved WSX, such a weird concept but awesome at the same time...for what I have read, the show was supposed to be an hour long, biut MTV decided after everything was taped for it to be 1/2 an hour, so that´s why the editing is so crazy. For example the had to fit a ten minute match into three minutes and that made the pace of the show suffer.

This was the pinnacle of Jack Evans career. He was really good here. He was also very good in Lucha Underground. He’s kind of fallen off in the last couple years in AEW.
Out of all the small guys WWE picked up pre-NXT days, I’m shocked that they never got Jack Evans. He seemed more of a good fit than Matt Sydal, Low-Ki or even Bryan Danielson because he had the breakdancing/hip-hop gimmick. He seemed more marketable than those guys and could just as many crazy flips/bumps.
I wouldn’t be surprised if all the WSX episodes were taped one after another on the same day and that’s why the announcers were having lunch in the middle of the show lol
I remember watching this at 12 years old in 2007 and I like it! This is where I begin to discover other wrestling promotions like PWG, ROH, NJPW, Dragon Gate, CMLL, MLW, AAA etc 🔥
I have such warm nostalgic feeling about WSX. Being in the 8th grade and watching crazy over the top wrestling. It’s a shame it didn’t have a chance.
It’s so interesting seeing Kris Kloss here since i only ever knew he as the XPW commentator, which for those who don’t know XPW is trying to make a comeback. They’ve had two shows one back in November of 2021 and one recently on the 9th of April i heard the November show was good but never checked it I haven’t heard anything about the April show yet. I’ve met Kris twice at the same indy show not to far from me, he’s a pretty chill dude even signed the promotional flyers the show gave everyone for free his commentary is so-so at times.

The co-promoter of WSX was a former XPW employee who had since picked up the company rights after Rob Black went down so that's how they got some of those guys to participate in WSX and also why there were a few XPW reunion shows a few years later.
Wrestling Society Ass was like something you'd see the characters in a sci-fi movie set in the distant future watching on TV. There's a later match where they added so much CGI to a thrown fireball it looked like the wrestler had f*ckin' superpowers! And at that point, why the hell not? After an exploding casket, might as well hadouken that sh*t.
I feel kinda bad for the wrestlers. For all we know, they could have been having barnstormers but there's no way to tell with the crystal meth editing. Whoever was in charge of that can shuv it.
Can we PLEASE get the full series looked at?

As an old person I do want to point out that MTV had stopped playing music videos long before 2007 and we definitely had high speed internet then too because I was working at Starbucks at the time and I was broke so I used to torrent everything I wanted to watch.
I had no idea this show ever existed though which is crazy.
I used to go to ECW shows and got to talk to Justin Credible a few times after the shows. He's a really nice guy in real life. Talked to New Jack once too. He was nice but I was terrified of him because of Mass Transit so I mostly avoided him lol
Yeah MTV stopped playing music videos around 2004 or so. But high speed wifi was still kind of in its infancy tho. It's certainly not like how things would be 5 or so years later where you can (reliably) get online on your phone.
Youth Suicide was a Backyard Wrestler in Southern California. There’s a good documentary about him. It’s a homemade product by the guys who followed him.

Was actually talented in XPW, one of their main stars that was there since the beginning of the company.
He would fly & do cruiserweight type of moves that shortened his career
It's sad to see a lot of American Independent Wrestling Legends (Nate Webb, Matt Cross, Human Tornado) and guys who made themselves in a few years (Jack Evans, Matt Sydel) having some of their worst matches here.

These weren’t bad matches at all. I honestly thought the episode was pretty good from what he showed.
@@ricolewis2949 I dunno about Human Tornado but both Matt Cross & Nate Webb had been around a long time and are still wresting to this day. Cross for example had over 10 years on him when he was part of the 2011 Tough Enough.
I liked WSX. Its was so bonkers that you need to see it to believe it. I also liked how the Ring announcers was announcing the wrestlers name.
You just unlocked a childhood memory for me with this video. I never remembered the name I always remembered the setup though.
I honestly think it was screwed from the start. It has pretty good matches and everyone seem to be enjoying themselves. But doing all that in under 30 minutes means they couldn't get anything across well. If they had an hour, i think it would be much better. Oh, and please continue, i'd love to see your reaction to the team D.I.F.H.

Fabian Kaelin was the announcer's name and what a name to have in wrestling.
Wrestling Society X was really good. Better than anything in the last 15 years. It has amazing presentation, and it just felt different in a good way.
I was there when they taped the pilot episode. They added a lot of explosions after the taping.
I stopped watching wrestling at this point, but I was aware of this show. Great vid, would like to see more of this.

More please , I loved WSX , when I seen Jack Evans do that 630 for the first time , it blew my mind, I was sad that the Finale never aired on Tv , but I Finally watched the Last episode when I bought the DVD set.

Omg I remember this , growing up in middle school a lot of my peers thought this was more hard-core than the WwECW. And also Rob Dyrdeck and Teen Mom Destroyed MTV, I may sound dirty but I give Jersey shore a pass because I watched the hell out of that as a high schooler.
MTV was ruined long before any of that trash was thought up.
Teen Mom and the sort were the ones that killed MTV. Jersey Shore wasn't awful compared to that shit show that ruined an entire generation of people.

I loved wrestling society x. I rewatched it all recently and now it just seems so over the top but was a lot of fun still. Was the first time I saw people like Matt cross and Matt sydal and jack evans
Back in the day matches would sometimes go past TV time and they'd show the rest the next week, so it is possible to have hour long match.
I remember when this was on tv hell me and my brother was backyard tag team champs at this time before we last it against the stone mountains brothers he we was teenagers at the time good memories
