- One of the best interviews with MF DOOM from one of the best radio shows Benji B on Radio 1 & 1xtra. Thought I would put this on youtube because I haven't seen it here.
RIP MF DOOM
I identified as many of the beats and the album its on but some of them I couldn't tell so if you care about that you gotta track it down solo.
The elusive and infamous MF DOOM takes over the show and chats in-depth with Benji.
In a rare in-the-studio interview, he talks about his various projects as DOOM with Madlib, J Dilla and KMD and lots more.

Dilla and DOOM are probably chillin somewhere right now making beats together on an MPC
nujabes too
Bless em
That Sean P collabo would be crazy
@@wardy2cAdd Bandana P there also.
@@bklyncrook thoro!
This is dope, he sounds so sincere and relaxed here. Rest easy DOOM
Sounds like erick sermon
He does!
Champion fraff a classic, big ups
DOOM's speaking voice sounds like a mix of Biggie and Raekwon.
That's villainous.
And Biggie + Raekwon's voices = Gucci Mane's voice
So MF DOOM = Gucci Mane??
KoolGNasBlackThought he does sound like gucci lmfaoooo
Jay electronica Also
+Daniel Lopez MF DOOM tellin Gucci Mane to put on a shirt.
lol
DOOM is so humble; constantly thanking Benji for all the compliments.
A gentleman and scholar.
It’s the British in him, very proper and well mannered
"and where are you based right now?"
"in the hood, kid."
real talk.
DOOM is like a student who keeps saying he'll have his homework in tomorrow, everyday.
LOL. Nice. But dude always aces the exam. *shakes fist* DOOOOooommm!
in this way i know that me and DOOM are brothers
Hopefully he still has some stuff on the shelf
:(
@@jamessmith-pq9zr Most likey, very likely
I can't stop listening to DOOM. Possibly the greatest addiction ever haha xD
+Trill God check out illadelph half life by the roots if you haven't already, great music right there too.
Carlos Campos Sorry to jump in on an old comment my guy bt I listen to DOOM exclusively now and have no regrets. I'm not an obsessive person really. It's just the catalog is vast..
Tell me about it
@@renatolaranja3834 im the same man, been listening to him for the past 6 years and im still finding new tracks!
Carlos Campos you and me both!
DOOM understands mystery. He never reveals the process.
RIP MF DOOM
Simply put - The Greatest Artist in the History of Hip Hop. I've been with hip hop since it started, NO ONE else has been the level of mc AND producer as Daniel Dumile. Safe travels Villian. Thanks for stopping by

I love how DOOM has trained our brains to always type DOOM. Also, when someone doesn't, it's our responsibility to let them know it's all caps when you spell da damn name.
HA freals lmfaooo villain shit DOOM!!!!!
Yeah I just did that
Just remember
doom
+Jose Arguello ALL CAPS WHEN YOU SPELL THE MANS NAME!
you can tell doom is just a hip-hop head. during the whole interview he can barely remember his own tracks/albums or talk about movies or comic books....but as soon as he starts talking about his favorite artists growing up he lights up and goes on forever.
MM... FOOD and Madvillainy are some of the best hip-hop albums of all time... nobody can even compare to DOOM.
+Don Corleone and born like this :)
JustFactsAndOpinions ehhhhh debatable
Operation doomsday was the first one I heard and that one stuck with me for the longest time. Mad villain is probably his best, but he's got a lot of great LPs
Jeffrey Neilan Operation Doomsday was the first DOOM album i heard too. Not a huge fan to be honest
+Don Corleone I'm not sure on my first doom album. But the first doom song or at least song with doom in it was November has come by gorillaz
It's strange, I can definitely hear the old Zev Love X in Doom's voice in this interview. Benji B did a great job, because he really cares. I think that's all it takes.
I was just thinking that.. makes me wonder how much of the low voice stuff is really just an affect.
remember all caps when you spell the man name
@@balle733 get used to it, it'll be in comment sections for as long as people continue to get it wrong
@@balle733 DOOM is the one who asked for the all caps bruh
His voice is nostalgic. Comforting, like a guy you used to talk to and have conversations with for years from your hood.
This is probably the best interview with DOOM.
Like this Benji B fella, good interviewer
yall welcome for the upload.
UnreleasedChance cheers
Thank you man!
UnreleasedChance Thanks for that! DOOM is a genius!
Got some more?
Madvillainy is 10 years old today. Timeless album.
Madvillain - All Caps
It has been that long? Shit. lol
DangerDoom ftw.

+UnreleasedChance whoooaaaaaaa siiiccckkkkkk hate that im a year late on dat

"In the hood, kid!"
"London, pick any direction"
lol
London aint got no hoods. Buncha insecure kids, cant fight so carry knives. Silly postcode wars. Appropriating caribbean/jamaican slang. They all segregate, they dont mix, they're racist.
DOOM sounded so relaxed on this interview which is kudos to Benji B on making his villainous host comfy...haha!
It's fascinating to hear him describe how ideas come to him and how he can remember all the material. He definitely has a gift.
When i heard the news a piece of me died. just like maradonna left us. i remember first finding his music on a underground hiphop website around 1999-2001. it gives me goosebumps too see from what depths he rose to the frontpage news here in THE NETHERLANDS!!!. The world is changing, things are changing rapidly and his passing defines an era ending to me. (getting old) :L . thank you mr dumile for making me experience your music and inspiring me personally.
Seems this guy gave DOOM his roses while he was here...recognized what he saw as genius. I am not a DOOM fan...I am late to the party and learning...but glad that he knew he was loved and admired...
This was beautiful. My man Mr. Dumile is so real and down to earth, and you can really feel how passionate both he and his interviewer are about the music. I'm so glad to have heard this.
Glad I could share this with you, full respect to Benji B and DOOM.
Shout out to the brain. DOOM couldn't do it without him.
What is so facinating about Daniel is that.. Just listen to the guy, he has made hip-hip to another level with his insane and incredible creativity and imagination. His songs are just insanely sick, but in real person he is just a normal person, has a familiy, has kids, has a great life, no drugs.
The mans in his late 40’s probs why bro
Also, no drugs? Wouldn't be that sure. He died so young too
Government killed him
@@japassupposedly he died to a reaction that he had to blood pressure medication
@@BigThumper8210 Yeah, I read that recently. I didn't mean that he died from drugs, just that he must've taken some in his lifetime. He references weed and cocaine on a lot of lyrics
Rip to the villain. Genius artist. Humble and good person. Sad man.
If I saw MF DOOM in concert I would cry.
I would cry so hard.
You a fan girl or something?
Freddie hawes Punk ass
I would too, hahah. gah damn legend
Obviously!!

"If I finish it on time you'll get it by the end of the year!"
*Said eight years ago*
Dilla and this fool would create some unheard of shit.
+saucy05 I think the song lightworks on the born like this album is a colab of the two. Don't quote me on that though.
Not really a collab he just rapped over Lightworks from Donuts to rework it :) he also did Sniper Elite over the Dilla masterpiece Anti-American Graffiti from Donuts, to go with Murder Goons by Ghostface from Geek Down on the Sniper Elite EP.
+saucy05 either that or create the MF DOOM song Gazillion ear.
+JustFactsAndOpinions but born like this came out a few years later after dilla died
you're kinda right, the Lightworks beat was on Donuts but Dilla died before Born like this
Great chemistry between benji and DOOM
Thanks for the upload man
I jus can’t believe he’s gone... biggest inspiration, lyrical monster.. flow like none other.
lol cant believe Benji b didn't know he meant "nice on the mic" classic NY slang. it's soooo weird doom lives in London I could've walked past the dude and not known! "Jesus walks"
9:58 shout out to the brain
Big shout
happy this exists
Last place I’d expect to find you lmao good shit
I could listen to DOOM talk for hours man. He’s so intelligent. I wanna know what his connection with wu Tang since he shouts them out “this song reminds me of a raekwon tape song” “blame it on a meth tape” oh well guess we’ll never know. RIP to a legend.
All from New York
who else went to listen to the songs when they cut them out?
I love hearing DOOM speak in interviews like this. He's so passionate about his work and you can tell by how he doesn't get too high and mighty on himself. I think that kind of humble nature is enstilled in someone who knows who they are. Either way, thanks for the upload! I love revisiting this one from time to time.
Probably the very best interview I've heard with him. He's on top of his shit (even if he hasn't read comics in a while) and Benji leaves room for him to give truly good answers.
RIPower DOOM. "Back where my brother went."
IN THE HOOD KID!
lmao
MF DOOM and Kool Keith are my two most favorite rappers.

***** It's funny because I have a story about that album: I used to listen to the radio a lot and I would try to catch this show called "Ital Vibes" on friday mornings at 3am....It was a reggae show. Well one morning while tuning in I noticed the regular program wasn't on. They were playing hip hop. I called in to the station and asked "Where's DJ Ben?". The dude told me that Ben was out for the week and that he was a DJ from San Fransisco named Q-bert, and he was filling in. I asked him to play something from the Wildstyle soundtrack. He said he would if he could find it. I continued listening and he must've played the entire Dr. Octagon album that night and I really liked it. I thought the voice was familiar and I realized it was Kool Keith. I recorded "3000" and "Spacepeople"....It was '96' and I never stopped playing the album since.
***** I started listening to Dr. Octagon after Tupac had died. I couldn't deal with the "gangsta" genre any more. I needed a new breath of fresh air and Dr. Oct did it for me. I always knew Kool Keith anyway from Ultramagnetic- Critical Beatdown
:)
I wanted to hear more about his brooklyn days and his come up man....some classic NY storys.....
R.I.P Doom.. I remember listening to this when it first aired in 2012 😥
Interview left me with Questions?

Madvillainy 2?
DOOM and Jay Elec?
DOOM and Earl Sweatshirt?
More DOOM and Dilla?

red bull interviewer was not that good with DOOM nor madlib
this is a great interview, redbull was a lil awkward but still cool to see n hear DOOM talkin stories
Never seen doom this animated!!! Great to see he's enjoying this interview unlike others
Rest in Power DOOM. Love you sir!
Listened to this interview like 3 or 4 times already..
Thanks for this! Great host and legendary MC!
Certain people trying to play up the fact that Doom was born in the UK...but there's no credible way he can be classified as a British rapper. He may have been born in the UK and currently lives their once again.....but he first moved to the States when he was still a baby and didn't move back to UK until he was about 40 years old...which is why he has a clear American/New York accent. His formative years and creative style was formed in America.
New or old •DOOM I'll be happy still listening to his existing material in 10yrs from now ....✨🔮✌️✨

Aka Viktor. AKA DOOM
Genesis Bronsalino
aka Metal Fingers
A.k.a. Viktor Vaughn aka king geedorah
Very good interview. Too bad they cut the songs out, it's really frustrating to hear DOOM introduce his own songs and not being able to listen to them right after it
rip to a legend
Here after HIS passing. Been digging for days and not slowing.. Vinyl prices going crazy right now.. cop that shit while you can.
Yeah. I’m glad I’ve been a fan from the beginning. I got all his OG joints before they repressed them and deleted songs for sampling or whatever reason. I seen the OG MM FOOD With the Kookies original with the Sesame Street sample going for $900. It’s crazy. I got two copies of the Gold cover Viktor Vaughn and the OG press of that joint etc. We all knew this day would come sad to say. Still have accepted that shit man. I hope he had a ton of unreleased music that his Wife or whom ever had rights to his music will release one day.
Rest in Glory DOOM 😔💔🥀🕊️
What I love most about this is the sincere appreciation of the craft. It seems like Hip-hop only died in the U.S.
Not even close to dead.
I honestly can't stand hearing people from the UK RAP it's like that way y'all talk or the slang they use is just hella gay to me. Don't give me wrong there's a few UK artist that I really like but for the most part as rap in the UK as a whole I just don't fuck with it. The states IS hip hop kid.
+Scott Lavender what slang have you heard? Probably the new school shit.
Every all time great rapper is from the U.S.A
Funny you say that cause DOOM's british born lol
Long Live DOOM! respect to the Legend.

DOOM JUST SAID MADVILLIANY 2 IS COMING !!! AND ALSO EARL SWEATSHIRT?? I wish Joey Bada$$ would have been mentioned too.
You can't really trust his word for the most part. He's been talking about the madvillian sequal and the collab with ghostface for years and we still have not gotten either LP.
I'm praying

Much discussion in this comments section about the Madvillainy 2 project I honestly wouldn't get your hopes up as many of you know this was recorded back in September 2012.
I suppose it will come when its ready... no doubt when we least expect it!
hope it ain't no Detox project, lol!
siordamc Madlib said in an interview with Adult Swim a couple of years ago it's going to be a continuation of the first Madvillainy and from what I've heard of the 'Madvillainy 2' cuts floating around, it sounds dope.
I don't think they care about how well recieved Madvillainy was or the legendary status its achieved so it's probably just going to sound like whatever they are feeling when they record it.
