    Probably the best car review I've ever seen. No nonsense, straight talking, telling it as it is, for the money, pound for pound the best car on the market. Thanks to Nobby, folks know what their buying. Some people will always be snobs, and buy the badge, happy to pay a fortune, but hey that's fine, we're all different. But me well I took Nobby,s advice. Cheers pal. P's, I bought the 1.3 turbo Prestige Duster. It's fantastic, drives so much better than my previous car, a kia 1.6 sportage, cheers again Nobby.

    I've got 2020 diesel manual with 4x4 lock option - gets you from point A to point B over any road basically, in rain and snow, and while quite uncomfortable on the inside - it actually looks rather decent on the outside now. Those LED daytime running lights in the front are nice looking.
    P.S. Did I mention it does all that at ~5-5.5 liters / 100 km, which is around 47-43 US MPG.

    I like the new Duster's styling. I saw one the other day and I thought, "that's a nice looking car". I know they're cheap, but if you're not bothered about having an Audi SUV or BMW, these are great cars. Plus, you're less likely to have someone try and break into your house to steal the keys, than if you've got something like an Audi or a new Cupra - trust me, I know from experience. :(

    Lots of respect for Dacia. Recently has my first ever ride in one- a Dacia Lodgyi. The car has zero kudos and looks like a pudding on wheels , but I was surprised at how comfortable it was and how smooth the drive was. You make a great comparison with Skoda. Skoda as a brand has lost some integrity, with hidden extra and not so hidden cost-cutting. Let's hope Dacia will remain the good honest brand it is today.

    • @chrishart8548

      I looked up a skoda superb a wile back as a company car. It was around £23,500 base for the estate in 2.0 manual diesel. I wanted an automatic and I thought the 16" alloy wheel were ridiculous on such a huge car. Had 215/60/16 looked like transit van tyres. No option to upgrade wheels at all.. in order to have an automatic I had to upgrade to a more expensive 1.6 diesel that actually made more horsepower. And if I upgrade to SE spec I can upgrade from the SE 17" alloys to 18" alloys for £250. No brainer really now the car is over £30k and now a vw passat in the same spec is cheaper!

    One of the best deals going, without a doubt! Honestly, I think they did a great job with the exterior and interior, looks like a €30k machine. I had a 2008 Qashqai with the 1.5dci, would never snap your head back but always had enough grunt when you needed it. Duster is an impressive piece of kit, if it can still be spec'd with 4x4 I'd put it on my list 👍

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 Před 2 lety +1

      Don't think the 1.5dci was available with 4x4 needed the 2.0 engine for that. Then the price starts going up. Also the lowest spec isn't available with the bigger engine and then 4x4. So you have to go higher spec bigger engine + 4x4 on top it's almost double the base price by then

    Enough power and lots of fun to drive. Not fun in the driver's car sense, but the fact the car leans so much in corners without ever feeling like it's going to let go and that little 3 cylinder engine kinda sounds like a de-tuned V6.

    Your final comment summed it up perfectly, Skoda even when they became part of the VW group still had to suffer from it's previous image for decades, but now most people know that Skoda make cars better than VW ! The same road is open to Dacia, making decent cars these days, but the old image remains, so it will take many years before they get the accolades this cheap and cheerful car deserves !

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  Před 2 lety +4

    Brilliant review. They make a lot of sense for young family. Less computers tech, less touch screens. 5 yr warranty incredible. I see issues with newer tech in future, screen burn, failure, dead pixels, LED lights mean cluster replacement when light fails. Ev battery life, cost of replacement etc. I'm not a new car buyer normally but I see ICE cars being an investment. Who wants a 2nd hand EV that charges to 80% a number of years down the line. I fear with climate change ICE drivers are in for hard time from governments either way though. Especially given recent weather events globally.

    Fabulous review as ever Nobby, despite as you know owning a Kadjar as I do, the only reason I didn't go for a Duster at the time was because it wasn't and isn't available with the 1.6 DCI that my Kadjar has. Having said all that they are fantastic value for money no matter which Dacia you go for, my wife has the Dacia Sandero Stepway 1.5 DCI 90hp and in terms of value for money they are brilliant. A friend of mine whose car failed the MOT recently I even pointed in the direction of Dacia, his only reason for shying away was because his wife doesn't like them but I suggested he look again simply because if you're on a limited budget as he is and you want maximum bang for buck, they're a hard thing to ignore. Only thing is because they are so cheap to buy it is hard negotiating with the dealers to get any form of a discount though that didn't stop me trying when my wife was buying her Stepway. Although we didn't get much we did get mats and a half tank of fuel plus an extra service thrown in so we did alright. Also because they are so cheap to buy they're even cheaper to buy 2nd hand due to not holding their value that well and equally that's also why some folk buy them new as you do then also get the likes of the 5 year warranty thrown in as well and as it's all Renault parts (it's identical to the Kadjar/Nissan Qashqai (old model) underneath) they're cheap to maintain too.

    I had a toss up between this and a Suzuki Vitara. I chose the Vitara because a) faster and b) more comfortable for me. But they're both good budget SUVs.

    You can get the New vauxhall crossland for £199 deposit and £199 a month,£50 cheaper and far superior car Dacia has gone way up in price for a cheaply made car and the finance deals are some of the worst around,nearly brought one a few years ago but wouldn't now.

    I am a taxi driver i am considering buying one to use as a cab but it will have to be a automatic as that constant clutch work in traffic jams is hard work...
    I will be doing about 40k @ year mileage.
    My only concern is the Duster going to be reliable?

      In Romania, i think 90% of taxi cars are Dacia...and all of them are on LPG... from what i discussed with a couple of drivers, they had almost no problem with them and regarding milage, 2-300K km is something normal...a couple of them they had 600K + km....and they were still used :) this was hard to belive...but like i said...i sow with my own eyes...

    Such a pity the Suzuki Grand Vitara is no more. For just a bit more cash you get it all. In 2016 had to choose between the Duster and the GV. 18k versus almost 20.5k. GV was the top of the line version, automatic 2.4, true 4WD, leather seats, sunroof, Android 10 inch, rear camera and so on. It's better off road and very cheap to maintain. Ride quality is incomparable and it's better off road.
    The 2,5k had lots of value for me. Dunno what a lower version costs, but if you wanted lots more car the GV was it. Maybe after the successful launch of the Jimny and Vitara, the Grand Vitara will be back to compete with the Duster?

    Hmm, yes I thought it was a decent car when I bought it just over 3 years ago, lately it's broken down twice with the same problem, the injectors, the latest one is the digital fuel gauge says it's full all the time, and when you set the, how far can I go before filling up, you actually gain Kilometres, I have a very rare car, it makes it's own diesel!! shortly going up for sale, will never buy another Dacia/Renault. Oh by the way it's not done 30k yet!
