History of Touge
Touge History
What is touge
Touge drifting
#touge #jdm #drifting - Auta a dopravní prostředky
a lot of normies think touge is strictly drifting. thanks for clearing that out !!
also cool af that you used clips from seikers and other cali touge racers
No problem! I have seen a lot of people think the same thing and wanted to clear it up. Yeah man! I want people to see what people are actually doing today in the touge scene not just clips from another era. Plus, seikers and other cali touge racers make great videos. I wanna bring more people into touge!
Facts man I really don't like it when normies think they know what they are talking about. They need to watch this video to really understand the concept. I have been really into this kinda driving style and history so seeing other people enjoying it brings a smile to my face. Nice to see people who actually know what they are talking about. Shoutout to the creator of this video and you armalite for having the appropriate appreciation for this rich history. Please create more videos like this talking about real history, maybe touch on the tokyo drift movie too? Would be great!
I was gonna lose my shit if I watched another touge history video that failed to include FF Hondas. Thank you!
A lightweight FF Honda is a certified touge weapon, you gotta give it the respect it deserves. No problem!
Agreed!
@@GarageTougeabsolutely, my old B18c5 eg hatch was great for this!
Dude that would've been fun to be a passenger on a run with that eg hatch
@@GarageTouge I miss that car...
This is awesome. It clears out a lot of the doubts people might have. Especially for those who think that touge is drifting, whilst the reality is that the majority of touge runners in Japan are driving for fun and more towards grip driving. Thank you!
You're spot on, big thumbs up from me, drifting does not equal rouge, when I tell non-car people I go canyon driving, they automatically ask if I drift.
Thanks man, this whole channel is about clearing up the misconceptions and misinformation a lot of people have about touge! I know what you mean though, I get the same thing from other enthusiasts and non-car people.
pretty spot on... Your channel is quite underrated!
Thanks man! I'm trying to be as historically accurate and clear up as much information as I can. Thanks for watching!
i love drifting ans gripping, so i always do dripping when i race in touge 😜
Nice! It's good to know multiple styles!
Glad you showed tsuchi
He makes good touge content it would be criminal to not include him. Thanks for watching!
shoutout to you for including revlox and tsuchi’s footage from the bay ❤ but ion really know about seikers’ lol. Us locals don’t really like them for reasons.
Thanks man! I wanted to include people making content today too. I'm not knowledgeable on beef like that since I'm on the east coast. I'm curious about what the reasons are now
@@GarageTouge they are just doing their typical youtuber stuff and acting tough basically. Blocked faster people and didn’t let them pass while claiming they themselves are fast (but irl they slow as shit). Also, mountain racing is just a tricky subject to approach since you’re basically exposing the road to newcomers and cops and locals would typically want neither of those. If you are actually fast (like revlox), yea no one would dare to shit talk, but if you’re slow but keep saying touge touge touge all day like you the shit, it’s hard not to hate you. We just don’t like disingenuous people.
great video! Underrated
I love how sensitive grip people are to drifting 😂
Drifting is cool too lol
Most people that grip out here in socal have tons of love for drifters. Not sure what you're on about...
Damn the white evo in Genting is everywhere
Yeah it is but it's a fire video though. Had to use a clip
Awesome video bro!
Thanks bro! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great video ❤
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it
cool video bro! informative and helpful to those who wanna learn more and get into driving touge. can't wait to get back to driving soon.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. In my opinion it's one of the most fun types of driving. What do you drive?
Good video man...love it. Just subscribed actually
Thank you! I've got a couple videos in the works that are on similar things/ topics. So stay tuned!
@@GarageTouge very cool bro
Not bad at all man (Irish for pretty good) Look forward to the next ep!
Thanks man! I'm glad you enjoyed it
wow this video is comically misinformed and incorrect. initial d came out YEARS after the peak of touge culture. it had zero affect on the popularity of drifting and pass racing.
I disagree, as I've stated some of my other points in my other reply on another one of your comments. While it's not a perfect full-length history docuseries it goes over the main points and key areas over a long period of time. I've never explicitly stated that when Initial D came out thats exactly when the peak was. There can be debates whether it's the 90s, 80s or pre 1980. I personally think it is the 1990s as stated in the video but that's just that, an opinion. Initial D whether you like it or not had a significant impact on the scene after its manga and anime release. Was it the only reason people were pass racing or drifting on the touge? No, absolutely not but it definitely boosted the popularity but wasn't the sole reason for the popularity. If you have any points for the future I'd love to hear them. Thanks for the criticism!
this covers almost none of the actual history of touge. 90% of the footage you used is from hot version and modern videos. nothing against you personally but my god im tired of misinformation on this.
This is a brief overview of the history and key points in less than 10 minutes of something that spans a long period of time 40+ years in Japan. To remind you the first consumer video camcorder came out in the 80s. There is footage from back then yes, but its by no means plentiful or easy to get good quality clips for long videos in comparisson to modern footage. Not everyone was recording with Go-Pros as we do today. Could I have used more of the footage that exists? Sure I deifinitely could have, but I'm also thinking about the watchability of the whole video. The resolution and aspect ratio of those old videos are not the best. So it was a style choice to not make the whole video in a 4:3 aspect ratio under 480p resolution for almost 10 minutes. Showcasing the history also means including things from past 2010-Present too. Just because its not in the 80s or 90s does not mean it's not apart of the history. It's asinine to have that outlook on the modern part of touge. The modern videos, influencers and shows coupled with the lore and videos from the 80s and 90s is what is going to get people into this hobby or whatever you want to label it as. Gatekeeping it to only the past is gonna kill it off and turn people away. As for Hot Version/ Best Motoring it was started in 1987 so it is ingrained in the history whether you want to awknowledge that or not. It's not just modern it's the past too. It was also a big part of a lot of people's first introduction to touge pre-dating CZcams. The history pre-internet is hard to piece together as it is mostly word-of-mouth he said she said kind of thing. Driving on the touge over the speed limit is illegal and so is racing. So it's not going to have perfect documentation and we have to do the best that we can with the information we can get a hold of and write it down. It's by no means a full-length video essay or docuseries. It was the first time I've made a video like this and I know it's not perfect in the production or the full length history. I'd like to do a full-length video essay or docuseries to get into the real fine details of the history when I can get ahold of enough information and first hand accounts. But I'm not there yet and this channel will be an ongoing touge encylopedia of the information in one place. If you think I'm missing key points I'd like to hear them. Also feel free to make your own videos as well if you'd like to document what you've learned it helps out the community. Thanks for the support!
@@GarageTouge if you need any real info in the future, feel free to reach out. ive been researching this for over a decade. there is just no point to title a video "the history of touge" and then barely say anything on the origins and history. these sorts of videos are why kids still think it was hot version, drift tengoku, initial d and best motoring that started the craze. I hope to see a revised version later
@@ef5supercell I'd be glad to reach out and talk about it. I do find it a little insulting that you would say I can't title it a history video. Because it's not barely any information it's a brief overview with key information. If the video was about any other historical topic it would still be seen as such even though it wouldn't be a full length explanation. Those things you mentioned didn't start the craze but were produced because of it and definitely fueled the craze. You definitely will see one in the future.
@@GarageTouge i have magazines dating back to 1984 that talk about drifting, the earliest magazine i have talking about touge culture (both drift and grip) dates back to 1985. Initial D was an exaggeration. touge racing barely was a thing. it was cat & mouse battles and that was about it. it wasn't until the later 90s that people started taking the racing seriously. Initial D took inspiration from the fact touge culture was popular, but it's incorrect to say it was anything remotely accurate. the craze has been around long before any piece of media such as anime, movies, shows, or proper vhs tapes had something to chime in on. this is more-so a video explaining the boom of touge culture on the internet, versus the history of touge. im sorry to insult you directly but as you can imagine, im tired of the same narrative being pushed, it makes people just getting into this niche basically set off on the wrong foot right away.
by the time Za Touge came out in '87, drifting was already popular. That tape is what kicked off drifting properly. Initial D's influence was negligible in comparison. i understand you said "drifting doesnt equal touge" whatever that means, but it goes hand-in-hand. it was common to see FF, FR, AWD cars run alongside bikes. it was common to see people drifting for fun right infront of a few cars that were grip running, etc. the whole "initial d racing" crap wasn't really a thing
@@ef5supercellif you really feel that pressed about the inaccuracy of Touge history, I genuinely suggest you make a video on it. Not even throwing shade.
