- This was an odd box I found flying over a ridge in Nevada. I am flying an MD500C helicopter as I encountered something I wanted to check out. I find these things on occasion so I landed to investigate. Hope you like it. Cheers. Fly safe.
If you know what this box was please let me know!!
When I was a kid and dreamed of owning my own helicopter, this is EXACTLY the sort of thing I envisioned doing: just mooching around the sky, looking for cool things in remote areas that no-one else could see or find. Then swooping down in my 'copter and landing to check it out.
Well, I’m gonna say the same thing it was my dream as a kid and an adult. I have a chopper in my backyard and go exploring just like this.
Next best thing is a drone........
I own a gyrocopter, wish it were STOL but I get to places and only need 150ft to get out, can land zero roll
Remote camping is what I always envisioned.
Same here, I would do this kinda thing all the time if I had a helicopter. seems like a good reason to own one. :)
Oops, you've found the leftovers from the Coyote. Turn the board over and it says Acme.
😂 he was chasing you know who. Meeeep meeeep. 😂
That is hilarious.😂
Perfect! And now we know the rest of the story.
Where’s the roller skates?
If you can find a spot to land down in the canyon below, I bet you'd find Wyle E.'s daredevil suit and the tiny umbrella he used to break his fall when he figured out that ACME engine was failing 😂
Turbo Jet Engine boxes made by Acme in the middle of the desert. This makes it pretty obvious that the pilot has found leftover detritus from Wiley E. Coyote...
Back in the 1970s when i was in the military those engines were sometimes used for power supply or even for pumping fuel from one point to another. I would look if any old military inslation in the area. Thanks for cool video's.
With All the comments like your I might head back and do some additional investigation. Maybe there’s something I missed??
I'm betting that somewhere up there on that mountain was a communications station or some other structure or equipment that required power. Some turbine engines were used for power generation and can run continuously given enough fuel supply. Low maintenance. Just a thought.
This might require a return trip!! I have found the installations you’re talking about (maybe a future video) and it’s usually big banks of old batteries but the generators are usually gone. Great comment. Thank you.
@@helihaus Your video reminded me of a story my CFII (ATP Helicopter, MEI) told me once. He was flying a Bell 206 over a range like was in your video and he had to piss. So he sat down on what he thought was stable ground, tightened the friction, and hopped out to relieve himself. Well, the helo shifted and got his foot stuck as he was getting out. Had to dig him self out with his hands and pocket knife. Bob had a ton of stories and I miss him very much. Safe flying!
Your attention to the myriad details of flying is fun to watch. You probably don’t even realize the level of multitasking you are at … great vid - thanks
You made my day. Thanks for the kind words. It’s a kind of therapy if you want me to be honest. It’s total focus in a helicopter (most of the time😂). Cheers and thank you for the comment. TC
Excellent find! I love the little aerial mysteries we can see from the air. And, as you note, beautiful spot!
I just found your channel for the first time today 1/8/24 and subscribe.
This is exactly what is just so awesome about a helicopter 🚁
Thank you very much.
My brother own's 2 chopper's and we explore what we can see.
Excellent video
This is the plan. Many mines are easily accessible by UTV or jeep roads. I have a few spots that are super remote that I may go check out. Google Kenny Veach disappearance. I know the location of that spot as I stumbled across it one day. Maybe I'll go check that out. Cheers. Todd
good choice to leave it running if your in the middle of nowhere!
I just found your videos today! You have a beautiful Hughes 369HS helicopter! Your videos fulfill my dream of owning/piloting a helicopter and landing it in places most people cannot go! Excellent videos! Be safe and God bless you!
The round object you picked up appeared to be an air intake filter on a dozer/backhoe type vehicle.
It’s an oil bath filter , , have had several older machines , trucks farm tractors even a couple my older jeeps , right now I have a 41 chevy G503 ton half that has one almost identical to it
Great video! Keep em coming!!
Love the MD 500 and what a place to fly beautiful countryside 👍👍💯
Very cool video... Love it... Keep'em coming please.
This is really cool love to see more adventures in your chopper
That is interesting. Personally when I see strene stuff in the middle of nowhere I'm afraid it's radioactive or something. Cool find though.
I was born in Needles in 65 and I'm still here. I always wanted to go out there and check out that area but it looks like it's very hard to access. Nice video👍
Found this channel today... cool video!!! Love the 500!
super cool, nice vid. Keep exploring for us!
Love your chopper. Sweet
Fantastic. I used to fly with my friend in the 80s in a C 172 down to Laughlin for dinner or lunch then back to LAS. I live in Henderson now would love to take a ride.
Nice 500C ! Glad you have the C20 upgrade and the 500D/E skid nav lights! We used our 500C and our Soley C30 A Star to film the Green Mile from!
Thanks for the comment! I’ll bet you’ve got some great stories. The upgrades were great for this machine. Especially ‘off road’ lol. Thank you!
Too bad you couldn't have kept the "Turbo Jet Engine" stencilled part of the crate (I know you couldn't), but It would be a cool thing to have on the side of your shed. Cheers, great vid!
Wylie Coyote was up there trying to catch the road runner..😂
Imagine their dismay when they got back and found out "core MUST be returned in our crate to receive any core refund". ;)
Good morning sir. Hella cool helicopter and color!!!😊👍
Neat find!
Awesome adventure! Thank you Google and CZcams algorithms for landing helihaus right here in my bathroom for further viewing! Newly subscribed! Excellent content.
The piece you picked up looks like the top/filter of a Humvee snorkel.
I couldn't imagine why or how that box got there. LOL Pretty good explanation. My dad used to stop for purses and boxes and bags and whatnot on the highway. I imagine if he were a helicopter pilot he'd have stopped for this too. 😄
Be safe and careful during all your flights. Have a blessed day.😊👍🙏
I've been flying professionally for 11 years now, and I miss being able to just play around like this. My current job doesn't really allow for much of that. Neat video!
Hey thanks for the comment! I do appreciate you reaching out. All flying is good flying in a way. The autonomy is nice but at the same time it’s nice to fly on someone else’s dime. Stay safe up the and enjoy the ride! Cheers!
Wow! This is awesome! Love your heli and capability to explore! Instant Subscriber!!! Can’t wait to watch all your heli videos!!!
Let me grab my metal detector and we can hit up some remote spots! Haha! Man I love that shot of you at the crate looking back at the heli!
Hello, ranchers would buy ( or win at auction) military surplus items. In ArIzona I have seen many G.E. metal barrels that were used to transport a engine of some kind, they were green in color and had military markings . These metal barrels were a little longer than a 55 gallon barrel and a little wider. The ranchers unbolted them and it split in two length wise and used them to hold feed for cattle, very thick steel and indestructible. Maybe they (miners or ranchers ) hauled this well built box up that mountain on skids with a older caterpillar tractor with an oil bath air cleaner.Possibly for temporary shelter or for storage?Just a thought. Thanks for posting this, very exciting!
Retired in 2016. Thanks for taking us along.
Man. What a cool way to explore ! :O)
Cool channel.
Such a beautiful spot. Makes me want to clean it up.
It didn't have Acme written anywhere did it? Nice to have such a helicopter to be able to stop and check things out like that... Thumbs Up!
Beautiful helicopter
Just happened onto your video, subscribed. Nice machine, good eye. Be well.
Love helicopters since the 70's and you have the one like TC in Magnum P.I.😊
Love the MD-500 and I’ve been in one years ago and enjoyed every minute
It’s like driving a Porsche 911 turbo with manual transmission, brakes and steering. It’s a total riot. So responsive and fun to fly. I’ve got some ideas for future videos to highlight this. Thanks for the comment!
The operating costs adds up on every start
I went to a DZ area to meet up with a friend who flies for the Powerline company and he loves the MD -500
watch for rattle snakes !!
Every boys dreams. Fly where you want , land where you want ! Explore !
Watch for rattlesnakes under wood laying on the ground. They love being under material like that.
The round object that you picked up was an oil bath air filter that used to sit on top of a carburetor they use those up until the 60s maybe even early seventies that looks like it's from the 40s or 50s
Good video. I enjoyed it.
You picked up an old oil bath air cleaner to a Chevrolet, early to mid 1930s. I wonder if that was a shipping crate being transported by air that wasn't tied down properly and slid out the cargo door of some kind of flying machine..
I have come across things like this ,all over the Nevada desert that is military just dumping un-wanted or worthless junk . The best one was a wooden crate (about 4 feet square) that was FILLED with soft camo tops for Humvee's back when the US first started using them . All of these were in very remote, very 4WD area's , just like this one . Anyone have an Idea which river that is ???
1) That air cleaner is definitely from a surface vehicle.
2) Old crates often get re-purposed.
I suspect they may have arrived on an old pickup truck, and been intended for firewood. There didn't appear to be any hardware other than the crate and air filter, so what we KNOW is that the crate was left here, whether it was empty or full - possibly with something else inside, we have no evidence of it
I think you’re onto something. The air filter might be the clue. Maybe it was part of an auxiliary power unit or generator? Might need to go back. Thanks for the comment!
Wow. That was cool
Nice bird man
That round object you picked up was an oil bath air cleaner off of an old car or truck.
In 1981 I was riding my motorcycle out from Green Valley ( Vegas ) and below Black mountain I found a concrete pad in the middle of nowhere. It was some Treasure hunt location, and I believe it had something to do with Hawaii. At that time it was out passed the old LA highway
Very cool.
Uh, wow? Wow! That's an immediate "subscribe". What a fun thing to do ... and watch! Hope you do a bunch more.
Good stuff..
That box with the writing on it, would have made for some nice wall art.
That was an air filter from an old internal combustion engine, truck or tractor.
Be careful of rattlesnakes when lifting that stuff in the dessert.
sweet!
More content please!!! This would be my dream use for a helicopter!
Take us to some remote mine sites that no one can get to ...Way to much fun !
I enjoyed that.
Nice Bird
THANKS GREAT COMMENTS
Wow ! New subscriber
Amazing video , thanks , the object you picked up was an(older) air cleaner for a single throat carburetor . Love the "Acme" comments .
Well that was definitely worth all the time and money!
Great vid ...Looks like drug deal gone wrong.Take care your on your own,,maybe someone hiding up ,,etc...keep safe you look half decent fella..
exactly...engine change out..i did a few when in the corps on top of black star canyon in so.cal on ch-53's turbo shaft eng. mech for 12 yrs...that is possibly from a cobra or huey for a small box, ours came in engine cans..or just possibly an apu unit..pretty cool find.
Thanks Doug. Great insight. Def a helicopter situation. Maybe they had a light come on or lost power and set down on this ridge. Its a great landing spot with a great few hahaha. Perhaps they thought 'if we are going to sit and wait it might as well be this spot.' Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Todd
Be very careful of rattlesnakes under old piles of boards. It's just what they like, to go into and out of to regulate their body temperature.
You’re living my dream. My fantasy is to own a helicopter and explore the US West. If you could use an ex Navy Helicopter Pilot please take me with you
Awesome
I'm missing a sanyo tv remote, let me know if you see it, I've looked everywhere and it seems that you might have better luck, stay safe flying and I enjoyed your video💯
Hahahaha omg this is hilarious. I did see one remote but it was RCA and had a cord attached. Comment for the win. Thank you!!
That was an oil bath air cleaner from probably a vehicle from the 30s or 40s that you picked up and said, "I don't know what this is."
Living the dream!
Stumbled on this somehow but my love of prospecting was peaked for sure talking about all the old mining sites you see. Most were abandoned because of ww2 and still had excellent ore bodies I’d love to prospect from a helicopter and be able to reach those hard to get to locations and recover nice specimens of gold and minerals (although quite expensive with the fuel I reckon lol) your a lucky man to have to freedom of flight 😍 thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼
Thank you! I'm always looking for that little glimmer of gold in creek beds after a heavy rain. If I see one I'll reach out hahaha. Cheers, Todd
@@helihaus I find the little stuff all the time lol it adds up eventually. the ore bodies on the other hand… those can pay off quickly sometimes.
I hit the subscribe button so I can see more of your videos.👍
I once hiked way far out to a super remove mountaintop and when I got to the top, there were two sets of lines/marks on the ground in the dirt. Looked like something had been slightly dragged for just a few feet. I couldn’t figure it out at first, but then realized: it had to be helicopter skids. What took me all day to hike, probably took the helicopter pilot 5 minutes to get to.
Look, as a paraglider 🪽, I’m just asking to be dropped off at the top thanks. Always tip your heli pilot kids!!! 😂 ✌️🚁
If you decide to set up camp on top of that mountain you won’t need to bring fire wood. 😮
I subscribed .
Looks like a mine shaft covered with wooden boards
Been around helicopters but never been up in one but I hope to 1 day.👍
Oil bath air breather....for carburetor engine 50 ish 40 ish. Chevrolet engine were titled Turbo Jet 50's thru 60's Turbo Fire....327 cubic inch..
Very cool. There are no channels on CZcams where anyone flies to these neat desert anomalies Everyone else walks. The exploration is a little more in depth at the sites though. Regardless I still like this neat bit of desert history.
I was time constrained for this one... working on some more where I really dig through the stuff I find. Trying to find the VERY remote stuff that is inaccessible otherwise. I have some cool locations on the docket. Thanks!
I love helicopter noise! TM
Ive only done this in dreams, and it is unbelievable.
I;m retired cockpit, (line in W'burg, AZ) to include 500-600 hours in the 500C; easily my favorite "fun" helicopter.
Yeah its kind of cool what you might find out there
My guess is someone used it to carry in parts for something else. That was an air cleaner for a small motor! Those crates can be purchased all over or the internet. They are inspected every time they are used, they can only be used so many times.
Can't picture anyone landing a jet aircraft there?????
A great adventure....
Thanks...
I was thinking that it may have been a 'jet' engine from a Huey or something along those lines. Many have commented on the air cleaner from a generator which was probably the case. Some mentioned its old mining junk... but... there are no mines anywhere near here and I've been back and searched everywhere. Nothing even close! Thanks for the comment. Todd
I thought Wile E Coyote was a cartoon
Dayz game keeps looking more real life.
That was an old time oil bath air cleaner from about a 40's auto.
No way! That’s so cool. Thanks for the input on that one. Maybe from a generator or another piece of equipment? Not sure a jet engine would need an oil bath cleaner but maybe. Thanks for the comment.
Uma otima maquina no brasil quase nao vemos é raro por aqui .
Fly safe
The item you picked up was an air intake cover.
See, the 1% can still live the dream. Must be nice to have too much money.
Nifty find. Wouldn't it be something to know the whole story?
Oil bath air filter for a single barrel carburetor. AT 4:10.
That was an air filter for a 1949 International KB2 truck.
I don't think there is any way to get a truck to this point... could it have been from a generator or something? Thanks for identification! Love it. Cheers. Todd
Who leaves a helicopter idling on the top of a ridge?!
Very cool!!!
China Lake Naval Weapons base near Ridgecrest Ca. , uses their choppers fro search & rescue missions and I witnessed one where they had to transport a hiker on Owens Peak with a broken leg & they let that chopper run the entire time , with the pilot standing by with an MP 5 . Motioning me to not get any closer .
