If I had a choice of heli to fly in, it would be a R44 but idk because I’ve heard they have a lot of crashes, but also Robinson had 50 years in the industry so I think they are good 😁
"Affordable" is a relative term.
They're still insanely and obscenely expensive to own & operate.
That's true, but it's meant in relation to other helicopters... Of course, if you're buying a gold watch, it's gonna cost more than a can of soda.
Main rotors are steel spar, aluminum skin, Aluminum honeycomb core with aluminum spindle/ grip.

Received my private in an old 79 r22 hp in 1999.it was on its last legs for sure .it was no 46 of the line I believe.

In the late 70s the R 22 was slinging blades - As the FAA grounded the fleet Frank was going to lose everything until 4 families mortgaged their homes and saved Franks company, in the 80s I worked at the North side of the field where Frank started everything. On the south side he made his company what you see today. He would always welcome me and give me the tour.
Curt also gave me a letter to not use the parts of the Robinson for experimental stuff... The R 22 had no governors or the added fuel tank in the Standard, flew every model he made including the Mariner . . R 44 too. Below is my Frankenstein Robie

Affordable price R66 start at $1,20000 plus tax You only can fly at 137MPH and range of 250 miles that will not cut the mustard . In conclusion I will never buy 2 blades helicopter because of mast bumping.
