Destin Florida. I have 3000 hours fixed wing time. I still paid to take a ride two time during my week in Destin.

The R66 with the turbine engine is an amazing aircraft especially for the price. They do get some bad press, mostly pilot error issues.
You missed a perfectly good opportunity to include the turbine startup sound!

Yes, it can and it does.
are all helicoptors airconditioned?
The Ribinsons are and most all luxury choppers today. The old Bells and Huey machines from Vietnam ear you might be familiar with are not.
@@classicperformance thanks. Ive been wanting to go on helicptor tour on a robinson. But i get a claustrophobic in small spaces, specially without airflow if it gets hot. So wanted know beforehand!

Robinson Helicopters are dangerous . Just ask the NZ Civil Aviation Authority . We recently had an inquest into their safety and the coroner found the
aircraft to be dangerous to fly in anything but calm weather .
They make up less than 40% of the fleet in NZ , but account for 52% of all fatal accidents involving helicopters .
The cause is thought to be mast bumping brought on by low-g conditions .
There have been 15 accidents since 2010 with 20 people killed . All caused by mast bumping . All involving Robinson aircraft .
Our CAA have issued warnings about the problems and advise that the aircraft should not be used in conditions of moderate or higher winds .
This applies to all R22 , R44 , and R66 models . and is taken very seriously around here .
A group of people led by one of our most famous pilots , "Choppy " Patterson Gardner have been asking for a ban on all Robinson aircraft until they are deemed totally safe .
Choppy Gardener is also the mother of the latest victom of these deathtraps .
She is also responsible for the first inflight camera's and data collection system in use in the industry in NZ .
It must be said that Robinson has been cooperating with NZCAA and TAIC , but dispute the findings .
We'll see where that leads .
Any accident is tragic, especially if there are fatalities. I’ve flown helicopters, many different types for over 30 years (ex-mil)…mast bumping is not a fault of the manufacture but of the pilot flying the helicopter. Do not want to offend or trash the deceased pilots, but if one’s flight control inputs are too abrupt for the aircraft, then horrible results often happen. I’ve never flown Robinson helo’s but have plenty of friends that do…and do so safely. Often times the problem is in the training not the actual manufacture/builder. May all those deceased Rest In Peace.
@@markweiss7715 Even Robinson themselves acknowledge that any low gravity event in their machines is almost certainly fatal .
Why are they the only manufacturer to ever say such a thing ?
The vast majority of pilots who have lost their lives in NZ were experienced operators , not Sunday joyriders and , most , if not all , would have faced
low gravity situations in their careers and dealt with it successfully .
But the Robinson is something different .
Many here blame the sensitivity and lack of forgiveness of the controls , most saying that you have less than a second to respond to a low gravity event and with
controls so sensitive , your first move could be your last .
If that is true , and I have no reason to doubt experienced accident investigators , why are they then safe to be sold to the leisure market , with so many doubts surrounding them , worldwide ? If anyone is endangered by these aircraft it is the private pilot ,with limited experience , who flies with his friends to go fishing on the weekends .
Any aircraft with an estimated 313 worldwide fatal accidents , with all blamed on mast bumping , but with 60% of them unexplained as to the cause of the event ,
must have reasons other than simply pilot error .
Certainly some must be error , as with other makes and models . But to have so many unexplainable accidents citing the same event means to me that these crashes are related and make specific .
As a side note , when the mother of one of the latest victims met the owner of Robinsons , He told her that his opinion was , because the pilot was young he probably said to his instructor "What will happen if I do this?"and pulled on the yoke ! Or words to that effect .
She is one of NZ's premier helicopter pilots and her son grew up flying with her .
Do you think he wouldn't know what "this" would do" ?
I truly don't have the answers , no one has any concrete reasons , but I will say that so many pilots , vastly experienced in our rugged terrain and flying conditions , have not survived this aircraft.
That is unacceptable .

Partially true, but most robinson crashes/mast bumping crash had speeds more or near 100 Knots, that is upper limit of its performance & any two bladed system is susceptible to that. But yes, bell like two bladed system is safer.

The R66 turbine are the most expensive as compared to the piston 44s. Expect to spend about a million dollars for a good low hour used one.

@@Invisus_Letum I do agree with you on the Robinson. If perfect weather and a well trained pilot, probably OK, but that is not always the case
As for “looks”..yeah, LOOKS good. They NEED to get rid of THAT ‘semi-rigid’ M/R system though..INNOVATE Robinson, make them SAFER! Started in R22’s THEN transitioned to REAL helos..Hughes/Schweizers: H269’s and the 300-series. Never looked back (Unless I HAD to..!)

Produces an extraordinary amount of lead pollution. Not good. And, a very dangerous helicopter.
We would disagree it produces Lead Pollution. The EPA in the US would not stand for that and the turbine R66 burns Jet A and it does not contain any led additives.

And, to consider partial credit on the comment you may be referencing, if it was a 44 piston and not a 66 turbine, the fuel spec for the 44 is 100LL (Low Lead) and would not produce any more or less "lead pollution" per gallon/liter burned than any other piston aviation engine. We will fully agree with you, however. Appreciate the interest and support!

Re Tards……Robinson has the highest fatality record of any helicopter. I will stick with my Hughes 500D. Robinson owners are synonymous with FleshLight owners, you know, the type of person that could not get laid in a morgue lol
