"I didn't know an actual surveyor put down those spikes!" Yeah right! They have been watching them every time they are marking their yard yet they missed the man dressed usually in at least a high visibility vest spending hours looking at plot schematics and placing stakes! Amazing they didn't see that at all when told what they did after was illegal! LOL I love the malicious compliance where they just keep making things worse for themselves and the OP has to do next to nothing but let them dig their own grave!

Fourth story, I'm wondering if the neighbor's wife was hoping that the plot wouldn't sell so that they could expand onto it or that the buyers would be ignorant. Plus, if she really was a city worker, she must've been either a terrible or corrupt one because she had to have known what she was getting herself into with that. Either way, it cost them big if they have to move away.

That also explains why she didn't wanted to get even small claims involved: any problem like that could get her in big trouble on her job, specially if they decided to also review any previous complaints against her and/or investigate her past actions (because I'm sure ilegally removing the surveyor's stakes from OP's property line wasn't the only illegal stunt she ever pulled)

I can tell you my reaction, if I were still working in IT I got OP's box, I'd have filed a ticket on that one the moment I opened it. The waste would've been documented, and the extra expense would've been docked against OP's last check. And if it exceeded their last check, they'd end up getting a bill in the mail instead. So OP's grand revenge against their employer was to quite possibly screw themselves out of a final paycheck, lose a reference, and depending on the industry, possibly even get blacklisted. Bravo. Way to go! Top score!

With the paternity leave story, my guess is that OP took the 2 weeks instead of 12 for the sake of his coworkers. I know at my job if I call out or take vacation, someone else is going to be forced to work more. I know it's not really fair, but sometimes sticking it to the management also can mean sticking it to people who don't deserve it :(

The first story reminded me of a job I had. I quit after a month. Call centres just aren’t for me. So I had to return all the computer equipment. No problem, I’ll bring it all back. The issue was that because everyone was remote, there was no one at the office and so I had to schedule a time to bring it back. The bigger issue was that all company contact was on the computer, which they locked me out of. I couldn’t get onto my company email anymore or look up any phone number to contact anyone to set up a time to return their things. I tried to call and email the recruiter but they weren’t answering me. Finally, a week later, they called me and told me that if I didn’t return their computer, they’d be charging me for it and I said, I’d live to return it, but I can’t contact anyone in the company because you locked me out of every account and way of making any contact. There was a long pause on the phone and then the person said “would you like to schedule a time now?” I returned it to them the next day. Idiots.

@@ivilivo I'd like introduce you to literally the entire Anthropology and History world. It's generally a very good idea knowing Latin AND Greek especially if your field of study is in Europe even as recently as a hundred years ago. Also physicians, scientists, linguistic specialists... most of them have studied Latin on some level and can read it. I mean, Latin is a root language for every single one of the ROMANCE languages and even English and other Germanic (as English, is in fact, Germanic) languages have been affected by Latin... Latin and Greek is literally integrated into a vast amount of European languages if they aren't otherwise based on either. Science and medical science are literally littered with Latin. I haven't even touched on LAWS yet, where whole freaking TERMS are taken wholesale from Roman laws or DEBATE and PHILOSOPHY.
So not only is your argument not backed up by any kind of factual evidence but shows a very narrow world view because if the guy in the story can get taught Latin enough to be able to submit full university assignments in it, then there is more than enough people out in the world to both read and teach it. I suggest using the massive information resource at your finger tips (the net) to look this up and research it at your leisure. Just be sure to examine your resources and check that they come from appropriate educational institutions.

Second Story: OP had a valid reason to push the date but the managers didn’t want to listen. Oh well, that cost them more money they have to pay to OP
Third Story: This is a mistake some managers make, they assume that because someone is young they don’t know any better. This manager got that lesson handed to him first hand
Fourth Story: Lmao this man told OP to get the land surveyed and OP did, only to find out that OP had 4 feet of land on their yard. I don’t get why this guy is mad when all OP did was do what he asked. At least in the end he knew he wasn’t going to win this battle
Fifth Story: Since when did billing departments need to speak to a lawyer in regards to a billing mistake? All of that seemed unnecessary when the option to represent one's self is always there (which is what OP did)
Sixth Story: The professor's pride got to him and assumed this exchange student didn’t know Latin; funny how he proved him wrong

      @abiean222 Před 10 měsíci +2

the reason that the billing department insisted to talk to an attorney is because they don't want to pay that money. they don't really need to talk to a lawyer, but they say they do. so, when someone calls them up to get the mistake fixed they now have to go find and pay for a lawyer, which is both a hassle and may mean that they may loose more money then if they just took the cost of the billing mistake. most people, except for those who are petty or pissed off enough, wouldn't even try to get a lawyer. its a shitty and greedy practice and it most likely works a lot of the time. OP just found a loophole or they thought OP was a lawyer and didn't want to chance it.

I did once have dealings with an HR manager who loved to throw latin phrases at me, the humble shop steward, often getting them wrong. One day he mistook dissolving a grievance "ab initio" for something else entirely, and I had enough. My response was in perfect latin, including a line suggesting that if he thought we were going to simply pretend the grievance had never occurred (that's what ab initio means) that "sterecorum pro cerebro habes."

She spoke English pretty well too, but claimed she was struggling with writing in English. The teacher had assigned an essay, to be written in English since this was French level 2, about a historical event in France. The exchange student asked if she could write it in French because she was struggling with English. In reality, she was trying to show off. The teacher agreed to this, and when the student received the essay back there was a large D written in red ink at the top. Most of the information was fine, but the grammar and spelling were so bad, she almost failed. Apparently, her French was just as bad as her English.

It would be similar to someone from rural Mississippi or Australian outback going to school in France and writing in their local dialectic in an English class. Quebecois is quite different from Mainland French. There are similar situations with a variety Latin American Spanish dialects vs continental Spanish. I said it elsewhere for this story - OP didnt have to pay anything to send those items back, he could have sent them Cash On Delivery with the likes of DHL. That is assuming that he had it in writing that they were demanding the items back and said they would reimburse him the costs. There is ZERO cost to OP then because armed with that email he can show the courier company that email, and send it back without any costs what so ever. Another way was to make them come and pick it up themselves, simply put it in a box in near the door and wait for them to pull their finger out. Again armed with an email stating they will organize such. OP didnt need to lift a finger.
Also, the fact that they gave him an account code to use, which was fake, also meant that those items could have been abandoned. All OP needed was the manager of the place he took it to to ship it off through to write a letter stating the code was invalid. If they sent police after OP, or tried to sue, all he would need to do is produce that documentation showing they gave a fake account number and counter sue for emotional distress of them accusing him of being a thief.

With a real snarky voice my boss said "There is no way you're getting Christmas off". I just shrugged and said "Whatever" and went about my day. FMLA is paid time. You cant be docked or penalized in any way. And retaliation for it is harshly punished, and easy to prove. For thise of you wondering, ive dealt with FMLA and seen people clearly abusing it but we could do absolute shit about it. And some conditions are basically unlimited time. You could have it, work a week, then use it to have a salary for years. At some point the employer could recommend SSDI if theres enough documented time out. But if that employer is governmental in any way the chances of them doing so is slim. Show up a few times a week and enjoy. But dont abuse it. Doing so could be proven and then you get in trouble. Act accordingly.

I have a neighbor, who has a lot of recreational stuff he rotates throughout the year - a small boat, snowmobiles, 4x4s - and he doesn't have a lot of space in the back to park them.
