Here I am, an American college student, taking a study break during my internship in Mongolia, watching a Scottish Highlander tell me how to become a ninja.
I'd like to thank the 21st century for being so weird, and I'd like to thank you, Tom, for helping it be that way.
lol. Great description.
"Forest warrior monk" is now my new favorite D&D subclass.
Hello! My name is Rudar, I live in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, Brazil.
I had the pleasure of visiting Edinburgh in 2019 and I simply "came home". Since then, I've been looking for all the information I can about Scotland, as if I needed to relearn the country my soul belongs to. I don't know what your beliefs are, but I personally feel that I've lived in this place, I've been Scottish in another life. It's a feeling that goes beyond a simple liking. My soul cries out to come home.
I found your channel thanks to my research on kilts and since then, I watch them one by one, sometimes repeatedly. Its content is excellent precisely because of the simplicity and frankness it conveys. Apart from that I learn a lot about "my soul country".
I thank you and send my hugs and best energies from Brazil.
Not a weirdo... for sure, what most of us really want to do.
What’s so wrong about being a weirdo
Seen a lot of videos sponsored by AG1 but you make it seem like us forrest monks could actually use it too 👍 As always, great video!
Yupp especially in Biographer😂
I call what you describe as forrest warrior monk by a different name, Wilderness Martial Arts.
I describe it thusly: Wilderness martial arts is a call back to the original way in which great warriors of old would train...
I want to grow this niche more and I think you are well on the way to helping people out that want to train in a martial art while enjoying a more natural environment.
Cheers!
When I was 20 in 1982 I had a fascination with sticks, bows, camping, survival, I made my own sticks out of Ash, Hazel and others I also made my own arrows, awhile later this developed into armoured combat with swords, spears, I made my own shields too, and joined a Viking/Saxon group. Stick fighting is great fun, I still have many staffs, sticks and walking sticks.
Keep the videos coming 👍
Every time I watch one of your videos I get filled with the overwhelming sensation to snap the handle off my broom, throw on my kilt and sprint into the woods. Seriously though you are a massive inspiration to me, love your videos man.
Edit: btw, where do you get your staves/staffs from?
haha! Glad to hear it man! My main walking staff I made from a Rowan sapling. Another is a Japanes, oak Jo staff, another a rattan and oak bo staff I bought online
@@FandabiDoziI would buy staffs from your website if you sold them.
@FandabiDozi if you like flow, May I suggest studying baguazhang
@@padd6007it’s very easy to make them yourself. And it’s way more fulfiling :))
@@stefans.8850 As someone that has made very many staves ever since I was little kid running through the woods behind my house, this. Finding the right wood, the correct grain, practicing and learning to carve your own designs and make it truly yours, is not only a journey in itself but much more personal than clicking add to cart.
It's fascinating to see how every culture in humanity has found a way to work with sticks. It's like there's a universal connection we all share with the simplicity and versatility of a stick.
LOVE your videos. Thank you for being thoughtful, playful, goofy, obvious, and profound. It's a joy to watch everything you do and remember my very brief time in the beautiful highlands of Scotland.
I'm an Instructor of 4 different martial arts, and this video filled me with joy man xD
You saying finding flow is like learning a new instrument is perfectly accurate!
As a drummer, my job is to translate flow into something that gets bodies moving. It requires a calm, zen-like state of mind, coordination of all 4 limbs, and maintaining precise timing. Flow comes naturally when those things are combined properly and turbulence results when it's lost.
Forest Warrior Monk is a vibe I can get behind
I love your channel. I live with slow chronic heart failure. Staff exercises have kept me fit and balanced. I have like, 6 or 7? 3 oak staffs (1 jo) some fire hardened, beaver eaten driftwood....Can't remember. I live in a forest in northern Québec and find solace in nature.
You inspire me every time, watched your vids many times and passed them on to friends.
I love your channel, Tom. That's a beautiful area you have for your outdoor activities. I was born in Aberdeen, but have lived in Australia since I was 4, am 48 now. I certainly have highlander blood in my veins and hope to see Scotland someday. Cheers 🍻
as a beerlover I really like what you did with that hainikun

I started following you when you first started discussing Highlanders. I got fascinated by the clans 4-5 years ago. Been awhile and I’ve just come back to your channel. Everything your talking about in this video is everything I’m looking for. Love your content brother. Same concept across the pond, in the Allegheny National Forest.

Fantastic ,thanks keeping the spirit of our ancestors alive ! 💜🔥
Great video, Tom! In your studies of Warrior Monk Traditions, you've probably learned about the Yamabushi of Japan. I have studied Japanese martial arts for years that have strong ties with the Yamabushi. I enjoyed your video very much because of the similarity with what I've studied in the past!

Love your focus on foundations. I always try to skip those and am working hard to embrace the journey.
LOVED ! !! Im importing your !DEAS to my training !!!
MUCH LOVE from Brazil
GOD Bless ALL
Lovely athleticism! Amazing what the human body is capable of if we give it a chance.
I’m so glad to watch your channel grow over the years, been watching for some time now and it just keeps getting better - and the subs are climbing too! I like the AG1 except the sweetener, wish they had an unsweetened as I don’t like Stevia/find it unnecessary in there
2:56 Forest warrior monk training is a frickin sick name don’t worry
This is a good wisdom. 🕉
You Never Disappoint Fandabidozi!
Beautiful stick routines, like a ballet.
Indeed.
I love it..."Can You Shoot Upside Down, Can you Shoot After a Commando Roll"....Great Stuff....It Would Be an Honor to Meet You.
Thatq's amazing
As an iai/kenjutsu practitioner in scotland... I appreciated this🙏🏻
gentle, funny and wise guy
That was very interesting.
And as French stick-swingers we are very impressed with your bâton Français techniques, you even do something very akin to a (or "the") Rose Couverte in the Flow part, that's very enjoyable to watch and must be even more to practice.
I wonder if I'm not going to buy a pair of gym rings.
Like your videos very much👍👍👍
What a great video. Your content is very useful and inspiring. I'm nearing my sixties and soon i'll be doing this. I already do it indoors, the the big wide outdoors beckons.
Forest warrior monk does have a nice ring to it. You could start your own following
