I love allo allo, i used to watch it with my grandad as a kid along with John Wayne movies, westerns, old war movies, one foot in the grave, green green grass, father ted, on the buses, blackadder, monty python and loads of other classics, it was great, my grandad had good taste and it certainly rubbed off on me. I remember watching the Jackass movie with him when he was in his 80's and he laughed his head off, which my mam never would of expected. But i'd never seen the Italian charachter in allo allo before, he's great!
I liked all the characters especially Helga and Evet. There was a lot of truth in some of the humour in this show. Service in fiats was an interesting comment. I read that only one in four soldiers could drive. Italy was a poor country in rural areas and many people never saw a vehicle let alone operate one.
Gavin Richards made impeccable role. He was much needed refreshment to Allo allo. Later was replaced by Roger Kitter but for me that role was lost without Gavin.
Absolutely love the bit beginning at 9.37 with General Von Flockenstuffen. The bit where Bertorelli says.... At Italian staff college..... we went dressed as-a the men. Von Flockenstuffens response.... You could have fooled me in that hat
To be fair, these are Nazis they are poking fun at. If someone like Mel Brooks (an actual WW2 vet and born into the Jewish faith) can spend a lifetime trying to make a mockery of Hitler, I don't see why not.

They like to make fun of Mussolini, but he was the first to introduce public health care that millions now benefit. His problem was he did not have an army that could back him up. But there was one war hero tank commander that was italian. Very successful in russian campaign. The only problem was he had to join the SS to do it. Haha.
