I am an English speaking Italian citizen, I find that Gavin Richards is physiognomically prefect to interpret an Italian, even his English with a heavy Italian accent is very plausible and credible. Great actor, good job.

Allo, Allo was one of the best Britcoms. It's writing and production were topnotch, the acting terrific, but, most importantly, the characters were the true strength of the show. It is sad to think that today the same brilliant show would be inconceivable because the great multidimensional characters Captain Bertorelli and Lieutenant Gruber would be deemed to violate the codes of "Political Correctness".
The reason why thete were no pc issues is it was even handed in who it took the piss out of. All sides got it. Had it been only side or the other getting the piss taken there might have been grounds for complaint. I love Allo Allo.
Consider, if you will for a moment, the Italians during WWII. They had beautiful woman, a wonderful climate, food that was incredible, lots of sunshine - who needed war!!!

Loved this series! My Belgian cousins and I will be eating dinner, and someone would suddenly say, "What a mistake-a to make-a!" Then the clssic lines would start flying!

Nice impression by Gavin Richards! Well performed, hitting beautifully at a classic Italian stereotypical dude of that time. That stereotype surely lived in the real world decades ago. Now it does not exist anymore, I fear.

about that oil-on-the-hair my grandma said: takes three people to make a salad. the stingy man ads the vinegar and salt. the vasetfull man ads oil with his hands and then puts what is left of it on his hair: then the mad man stirs it. it's a 1930ies story, from the depression.
One of the great things about this show is it took the piss out of everyone: Italians, Germans, French, and even those ridiculous English with their silly accents. Imagine what fun they might have had with an American character.
Gavin Richards was superb in this show......quite good in EastEnders as well.............Whilst I am a fan of Roger Kitter who took over the role later he was nowhere as good as Gavin.
