  • Learn about the history and effectiveness of permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid used for insect control for over 40 years. Permethrin works by attacking the central nervous system of insects, causing them to become paralyzed. It is available in various forms, including sprays and pre-treated clothing from Insect Shield, as a simple and effective insect repellent.

Glad i watched this! Very interesting. I was mostly interested about Pyrythririum as that is the only insecticide allowed to be used on what is stupidly named "organic" food. Every living thing is organic! Pyrythririum is also a great product as a barrier insecticide barring insects from entering one's home.
What I am wonder is how long does Pyrythrin stay impressioned into clothing & shoes? Once washing the pants, I would believe that would leach out immediately.
Very knowledgeable! Thanks for making the video.

Permethrin works great, but the spray for clothing is hard to get in Canada. I’ve used the Sawyer products from the US & like it but why it’s not available in Canada is just stupid.

Spot on! From what I have seen the only products available in Canada are meant for livestock and you have to have a government document to buy it. Fecken ridiculous!

I get mine from a local feed store that sells products for horses. It’s marketed as a horse fly deterrent, you have to read the label but it’s common for use to protect livestock

They have it for dogs. I just found it looking for a deet free alternative I believe the formula is a little different because of the dispersants but might be similar enough. It's from swayer
Edit: it's the same formula. Maybe you can get it that way. If not I'd be willing to ship you some Sawyer permetherin branded for dogs

I have a chigger problem in my yard and on my patio as well as on my hot tub cover. They seem to be attracted to the moisture. I have been using a company (Mostquito Joe) to spray the yard and it just doesn't touch these tiny red pains in the arse. They are everywhere. Will this stuff work as a general applicant for the entire yard and patio area? Also my hot tub cover and shell? I am at my wits end. Thanks

I've heard from my brother that he used powdered sulpher in his hole yard to get rid of them as he suffers from them a lot. It spread with the wind so you need to have almost no wind to do it.
It lasts for many years and doesn't evaporate. I had a serious attack from chiggers while being outside his garden but not inside. It can catch fire, so no fire near large amounts.

So my question is, why don't we have fields of chrysanthemums here in the United States 🤔 are they too hard to grow? Are there other side effects of growing them? Do they poison the air? Couldn't we use them as a rotator crop? Just curious.

@whitefreeman5798 Never spray permethrin directly on your skin. It is not a repellent like deet. You spray it on clothes let it dry then put the clothes on. You can spray your livestock and animal bedding and surrounding areas yard etc. but never on human skin.

It irritates my respiratory tract when it is wet. After it drys it doesn’t appear to bother me at all. When pest control sprays they insist on people and pets staying away for at least 2 hours or until it drys. Seems to be sufficient even for my extremely sensitive lungs.

Pyrethrin was the main ingredient in Buhach, which was the best insect repellent ever made. You put a bit of the powder in the lid and burned it. A staple in Alaska cabins for decades. They quit making it. Too expensive to extract it from chrysanthemums now.
