When Rick says "SWEET!" you know he'll make a lot of money out of it.
I realize it's staged but they make it almost like all his buddies are just sitting around waiting for Rick's call and drop everything and head to the pawn shop
Yeah his buddies are already there. There is no call. But it’s funny how it’s supposed to look like these experts have no life and are never busy. They magically appear
@@tytar1037 they are experts they can teleport
@@lokib.7378 All customers have prearranged the viewing well in advance, they must submit details of their items to the production company who are the ones setting up when the experts are there to access the items.
Yeah just imagine the awkward pauses between takes when they stand around, the buddies are preparing in the background and Rick isn't actually calling anyone.
In reality, Rick calls up his "buddies" and say: hey the guy wants 10k for it. Make sure you vallue it under that price in front of the seller or you're fired.
- Expert: I value this at 7k
- Rick: So how much you want now?
- Seller: 5k?
- Rick: Sigh... I'll tell you what. I'll give you 2k and i'm taking all the risks.

1 week later: Rick puts item for sale: 15k
I love how easy and simple chums deals are: sorts them within seconds, whilst Rick has a full on brawl
Down with communism
Imagine the hands that held that powder flask and the conversations it was present for! That thing was beyond cool!
There should be a huge sign at the entrance to their shop disclaiming "I'm Rick Harrison and I take all the risks buying your items so be prepared to recieve a lower than fair market value for your things"
This isn't true though a pawn shop is not market value. The whole point of pawn shops is you get fast cash but it is less than what you would get if you sold on the market. That is why these people who go in and get mad that he offers lower than market value annoy me so much. If you wanted market value do what he always says and go to an auction. Then end up making roughly the same amount anyway after taxes and fees. You are also making them sound greedy when in fact he has been honest with sellers. Who offer something at a much lower price than what it's actually worth. And he stops them and says this is actually worth alot more
If you want a retail value, sell it at an auction, not a pawn shop
You are not going to get a fair value ever...its a business, you need to make money. Specially if its something worth thousands, you dont want to make $100 dollars on it..you want to atleast make $300 or more on that item...you got to pay staff, bills etc.
Am I the only one who thinks Rick looks like the real life Homer Simpson??
Doh!
Let me call a Simpsons expert.
I swear this guy has a friend for everything, also interesting how fast the friends get to the shop straight away lol
It’s staged lol
"With the box being a decorative piece"

”I have the actual prototype Steve Jobs used when presenting the first iPhone in 2007”
Rick: ”There exists a lot more capable iPhones these days, so I don’t really see the value in this. 250 dollars is the best I can do and I’m taking all of the risk here”
17:53 the disappointment on Rick's face when he realized he couldn't screw this guy over for his Babe Ruth pic 😂 😂 😂
That’s what happens when you go to a pawn shop the guy with babe Ruth isn’t very smart
Pawn Shops are a middle man. If you know what it's worth, sell it to a collector yourself since you have all the paperwork.
Or go on Pawn Stars, get on TV showing off your verified piece, then sell it later. You know they are going to undercut the value by at least 33% so they get their margin.
Did you hear what he said at the end though? “Back to the auction houses”, meaning he’d been there before and was not getting what he was wanting. Especially when you pay the 20-30% auction fees. I wouldn’t necessarily say, “screw him over” bc he wouldn’t pay him what he wanted
Something that rare that involves Babe Ruth, the right person is probably gonna pay way more than the valuation. I wouldn’t let it go for 7 grand either.
Rick gave one offer and didn’t budge. That was unfair. The guy was right
Rick "I'm taking a risk" Harrison.
Appraisal is $10,000, seller wants $12,000, Rick offers $7,000.
You know if Rick is offering $7,000, he's going to sell it for at least $14,000.

Oh you mean getting railed up the butt by Chum’s lowball prices?
Seller: this is literally the bullet Hitler killed himself with how much can I get for it
Rick: best I can do is $5 and I take all the risk.
seller: say no more!
To be fair, there were a few people here who stood their ground, one even saying nah imma take my stuff elsewhere. Though from a business standpoint, I do understand the pawn workers' motto 'I take all the risk'. Yeah it's slightly condescending to say but the fact is that they are running a business. These people who latch onto the experts' appraisals and then want to immediately sell it for that price baffle me. The shop still needs to make money off the stuff so if they buy an item for its value and then sell it for that value, all they've done is waste their time.
@@benschibler5622 yeah I do find it stupid that some people automatically start with what the appraiser gives as a price.
Just because something's worth 50 G's doesn't mean you're going to get 50 G's
@@Wojtekone88 Honestly, I can appreciate the show for what it's worth, the line of experts they bring in to educate everyone on the specific items' values and history, but if anything, it deters me from ever setting foot in a pawn shop to sell anything lol. Wouldn't mind checking them out for buying stuff though
@@benschibler5622 They probably go immediately to the expert price because the show producers tell them to. It's not "Pawn Stars" if they immediately shoot for 50-70% of what the expert says. The producers probably tell them there needs to be some back and forth. This show has been around for 15 years, they know what's up.
Dude you don´t go to a pawn shop to get a fair price. You go there to get money asap and pay you bills bevore those russian guys break you arm with a baseball bat.

Rules for dealing with a pawn shop;
1. Don't be afraid to walk away from the deal, never seem desperate to sell
2. Never start out at your lowest price,,aim high cus they're gonna aim low
3. NEVER tell them how much YOU paid for an item

Rick isn’t taking any risk, he knows exactly where and how to sell each and everyone of these pieces lol
He is taking risk, the items could break, decrease in value, or just sit around for months to years. You’re sacrificing liquid cash for illiquid assets, although these items do have a lot of appeal but it’s not like selling stocks or something, he also has to pay for auction fees and commissions. Rick would go out of business if he offered much more than he does.
@@MattCurrieImprov He does not have to pay for auction fees or something like that because he just sells most items out of his shop. Also for things like breaking the item a pawn shop has usually some kind of insurance. Also a lot of people are going to see the show so if any fan of the genre sees the item he can sell it far more quickly. The most popular items were even showed at their website for a few years (that was also popular a few years ago). From what I've seen they always sell products for far more for what they say it will sell for. Making mostly double the money, which isn't bad if you buy an item of like 10k. In the end he is a smart businessman but he can't stop lowballing people sometimes.
