      @eric burhed You need to understand something though. If it doesn't sell at an auction, they will put it in the shop. Having 225,000 in one item from a business standpoint makes no sense at all. The only way that would make sense is if they were a super high end dealer, or if they were exclusively selling one particular type of item, such as game trophies, or coins. And if they don't sell it still, they will have to wait for another auction, not just that pertains to the item, but one with high end collectors. I've been to a couple of auctions, and they are not high end whatsoever

    If you do a google search there's an article about this trophy. As of June 2019 it was still for sale and had a 500K reserve on ebay. The shady part of it is that the listed seller was the company that the "expert" they just called on this video owns. So basically either the expert ended up making a deal with the seller after this was filmed or this whole skit was set up so the expert could drum up interest in an item that he is having trouble selling. I'm guessing the latter.

      It's not really shady, it's just staged. Show basically came out and said it mostly staged when they tried to buy some rare fender, turns out it was owned by the music shop their appraiser owned

      I'm sure there are some extremely wealthy people who really are into horse racing. There only has to be a single guy willing to pay $500k for it to be worth that price. It's irrelevant that 99.99% of people aren't interested in it at that price tag. And the seller just got a ton of exposure by being on the show.

      an offer like that is a "I don't want to buy this but will look like a fool if I don't offer something." Based on auction house fees adn needed about a 30 percent return on investment (considering that money will easily be tied up at least a year), $275,000 is really the best Corey could offer. The offer of $225,000 is to see if the guy is willing to down down to something more manageable. Just no money to be make at $500,000.

      But he also realized he is on the show that has several thousand people watching. It doesn't matter he didn't get the asking price. He wanted exposure and he got it.

      His next option is taking it to the option and taking a 20 to 30% hit. Which is better than the pawnshop but it's not guaranteed to get to the price he wants it to.

    Wow!! I do follow horse racing and I can't believe someone actually sold this!!! Affirmed was definitely famous but had this been Secretariat's triple crown trophy, it would have been no question that it would have been worth $500k.

    If u google it it still hasn’t been sold 3years since it was filmed, the guy put it on eBay asking 500$K but 225K was a reasonable offer good luck selling it

    That guy made a BAD investment and now he's stuck with it... I'm sure he's tried to sell it else where. I would think that a pawn shop would be the last place you would take something like that if you want big bucks for it....

      This item is an excellent investment...if he can recoup his original plus twenty percent. These are not exactly liquid assets, though.
      The rarity and the one-of-a-kind appeal makes it that much more desirable. "Affirmed" was a fantastic horse. I would bet that someone connected to his bloodline would gladly pay handsomely.
