PS4 Slim Dust Filters - Good or Bad???

  • I've received quite a few questions reguarding dust filters on game consoles and whether they help or cause overheating. I decided to find out by putting them on a PS4 slim to see if they caused it to overheat.
    I played the console for an hour first and checked the temperature, then installed the filters and played for another hour, then compared the temperature readings.
    After completing this test I found that these filters did not cause overheating and in fact didn't even cause the temperature rise.

    If your worries about airflow, just make a slight modification by adding a big hole or multiple smaller holes over the fan and add a filter over that as well.

    @mjc0961 Před 4 lety +2

    Never heard of these before, but before I watch, based on what I know about dust filters, I'd guess that they'll increase temperatures due to less airflow being allowed through, but it won't be enough to cause actual overheating (the console telling you it's too hot before forcing a shutdown). Maybe just some louder and/or longer ramp ups in fan noise.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 Před 4 lety

      Welp, guess they did about nothing.
      Hope people using them remember to keep them clean, otherwise they will block airflow eventually.

I use a method similar to this, except that I only use the two mesh on both sides, stuck between the slits, without the bars. Does it really work, avoiding dust, as long as the air passes freely?

    Thanks. I’m getting the ps4 slim this Saturday and I’ve been researching on how to keep dust out. I have very dry skin from eczema and skin condition from a rare autoimmune disease so my room produce more dust than the average room. So I think I’ll get these dust filters and clean my ps4 every Friday. Although I won’t take it apart to clean the fan because I’ve never done something like that and I don’t want to break it. So I hope dust filters and spraying it with air and cleaning it will help prolong the life of it.

One thing about all consoles no one never talks about , and the sonny play station has a issue once your rollers get dirty . and i will not buy a new disk drive when mine still works great , besides the rollers in the slot that pulls and ejects your games out , and yes i still like physical disk any day over digital downloading .

      Probably true...unfortunately, that's most of the reason for the dust filters...to make it easy to clean the dust before it gets into your system. Many people probably think that they just have to put the dust filters on and then they're good.

    of course it will cause the console to heat up because it will collect dust soon and weaken the cooling.....but the cleaning will gonna be easy as pie!
