OMG. Māuruuru roa! quel beau souvenir. Thank you so much Kanaloa for taking the time to produce and share this delight in the age of the Internet. I was fortunate to have lived, worked, got married (Papeeno Mairie), hiked, camped, partook, sang, danced, and sailed in Polynésie française a year 1978-79.
So happy that this popped up in my feed. What a wonderful channel. I have been watching episodes for the last two days. So entertaining. So refreshing to see real content. No BS homestyle cooking. Just awesome!
Your videos are addicting. Try this coconut shell menu after you've scraped the coconut meat: white onion with salt and pepper in coconut milk but without the coconut water, take fish like the ahi meat that you scraped from the bones like you did in another video, place it in the coconut shell (obviously the end without holes), pour the coconut milk mixture just short of filling the shell so it doesn't boil over and bake high heat like 400 until lightly brown. Best flavor when thin layer of coconut left on shell that you scrape the heck out of with a spoon after you've eaten all the fish. It's a samoan dish called kao ipu
Kimi, u rock! Thank you for sharing this. Gonna make em today with some shibi. You can also use the dried husk of a coconut to squeeze out the coconut milk. 🤙 If there is no cheesecloth avail. Very beautiful baby you have. Godspeed.
I love how amazing you were in your Nat Geo show and even more now that you have a channel of your own. Keep making videos Kimi because we be all watching 'em ✨
That's so awesome love the oka style fish. Back in islands we call the sharp stick the me'e le'i but I like it long so I don't hurt my back husking and the Coconut has 2 eyes and the soft hole is the mouth and grader we call kuai I love the vlogs keep them coming 💪👊
I'll try this for sure, I'm such a sucker for anything with coconut milk. I'd put mango in it, though, mango and coconut just so good together. I love the way you live, Kimi... life on the backyard, summer kitchen, fresh and simple, unpretentious and pleasant and wholesome.
So many wonderful new dishes I’ve never knew existed! So easy & so fresh! Thank u for sharing this gem 💎 I love how u made this outside, it was so relaxing 😌
Wow.....that looks so good! Being from Oregon, kinda blew my mind to stand by a Banana tree on Oahu many years ago. Spent a couple months at Schofield Barracks for an exercise. Also did Air Assault training while I was there....which is where I was introduced to banana trees.
Hej! I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration, I just enjoyed my Swedish version of Poisson cru, I used cod from the north sea and canned coconut milk, great dish that I will be doing again soon :)
Ia ora na, Kimi! Thank you so much for sharing this precious recipe with so much love. I would like to prepare the same way you do. Please, could you tell me where I can find this coconut grader to buy? Do you think I can have one at the Papeete market?
I love your backyard so much! All the fresh veggies, fruits and plants! I wish I could have a cutting of that plant behind you, the variegation is beautiful :)
I did a similar video and used a really cool coconut tool you should try , didn’t use a cheese cloth as I didn’t have one at the time , great to see your recipe kimi 👏
No not usually I think only sweet potato pie was shot, edited and posted in the same week. And they aren’t all in chronological order..most are but once in a while you’ll see Buddy getting smaller!
Question, Is this not apart of Hawaiian cuisine? Most of polynesia make this e.g. Samoans - Oka, Tongans - Ota Ika, Cook Islands - Ika mata or simply known as raw fish.

Can you link to the coconut grater? Mahalo. Cute baby btw. I like your videos.
Great recipe! I need more veges. Would it work with deep sea nenue? Tightlines!
Yes!
If you warm and roll them, they will give more juice
Great video! How long does it take to cook the fish with lime juice when you cut the fish really thin?
15-20 min if cut small!
Kimi Werner thank you, I know my wife and I will love this recipe!
Do you make the videos the same week they are released?
No not usually I think only sweet potato pie was shot, edited and posted in the same week. And they aren’t all in chronological order..most are but once in a while you’ll see Buddy getting smaller!
I like you're not to keen to cook in the kitchen! :)
