    I really like the new update because it gives you a lot more options for making niche divisions and stacking modifiers in fun ways. For example, you can combine rangers, pioneers, and radio support companies with the superior firepower doctrine for a significant bonus to line artillery. Or you can combine engineers, flame tanks, and super heavies for a fort attack bonus close to 90% (really niche, but I find it entertaining at the least).
    Edit: grammar

    Not that it matters much but I have to point out that there are a lot of marsh tiles in Europe. They are really the only marsh tiles that have game impact as well because they are always fought over on the eastern front at the Polish/Baltics and Soviet border. Essentially Europe has the most marsh lands and the only ones that even matter. Eastern Europe is considered Asia to many Western Europeans I've noticed but its still Europe.

    • @gudmundursteinar
      @gudmundursteinar Před 3 měsíci

      They are regiments. A brigade, in it's original meaning was a combination of battallions from multiple regiments into a single ad-hoc regiment. Typically used by cavalry which often wasn't at fullstrength and regiments during the age of European Empires where regiments often had one battallion deployed in a colony and one at home, so the battallions would unite in the field.
      Today it's basically a Division with one regiment .

    I love the AA Tank strat. Appreciate you pointing out that the tank can only go as fast as the infantry. I sometimes do two variants of it if i put one in my armor/mech divisions. But I sometimes make my infantry version too fast in comparison to the infantry.

    • @patrickhenry1249
      @patrickhenry1249 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I personally think it’s just way better to build a fast version simply because retrofitting or making two lines of tanks takes too much production capacity and it feels like it’s easier to just bite the bullet and make the infantry version fast, or switch to a faster one very quickly. You’ll need it eventually, with either marine mechanized divisions (which is what I go for as Germany, schwims and marines then mechanized which is only 7kph anyways, bc lord the rivers into the USSR (dnieper and dougava) are annoying to cross, as well as crimea) or any motorized, mechanized or tank divisions. Unless you just skip armoured recon or don’t add tank battalions for armour to your infantry divisions.

  • @ZombiePete1
    @ZombiePete1 Před 4 měsíci

    @4'24 you are correct. I think what they are trying for in their notation there, "Brigade +1" means that brigades have one extra battalion, but it is less than clear. The unit under a division is always a brigade, then battalion.

  • @MaciekKleczar

    In SP you probably wont ever need AA, but you could use more than 100 breakthrough for attacking division. I would say the goal would be to have 200+ breakthrough. That's why I would change AA tank into standard MT with close support gun, 2 machine guns, radio and amor skirts and +9 armor ticks.
    If you really need AA, just add standard AA batalion or support company. You can also lower number of infantry if you wish to get lower combat width. With 30 CW it would still work fine. But for plan fighting I would keep bigger CW, cause they would usually attack alone anyway.
    With this, you can plan auto-attack Barbarossa and win in half year most probably.
    So for me it is:
    2xMT
    4xarty
    12xInf
    support arty, flame, logistic, armored car and pioneeers/maintenance or rocket arty later

    I am kinda new to the game, but isn‘t the weighted average of the 15cw also the best? I am a bit confused on your terrain types take. Or are low cw devision generally worse and there is a third factor to consider?

    • @ArtificialXD
      @ArtificialXD Před 6 měsíci +3

      * Smaller CW divisions general have more Org per cost, but less total HP (meaning you take more equipment/manpower losses).
      * Support companies historically give proportionally more benefit to small CW divisions, so you get more “value” out of stat-heavy companies like support Arty or Support AA per cost. This is still true, but with the new update adding % based modifiers to some companies, you’ll get more “value” out of these % modifiers in larger CW divisions.
      * Smaller divisions are easier and cheaper to “Space Marine” infantry because proportionally there will be more armor/hardness in the entire divisions, but conversely if the division sees enough combat it may become more expensive because of the cost of higher losses from fighting.
      The take-away: Smaller CW get more cost-efficient value from stat-based support companies (arty/aa/etc) and are good for defense stalling because more units with higher org mean they take longer to break, but with lower stats they’ll take more eq/manpower losses and won’t deal as much damage back. Larger CW units are good for attacking or repelling attackers with damage because they have larger stats, which means better %-based support company buffs per cost and fewer eq/manpower losses. This also means they have a better chance of (1) Having higher defense/breakthru than the enemy’s attack to receive less damage, and (2) Having higher attack than the enemy’s defense/breakthru to deal extra damage. These take-always are why you’ll typically see frontline infantry defenders have 10-20 width for holding the frontline, and attackers have 25+ width for being the units that fight the most frequently.

    • @ArtificialXD
      @ArtificialXD Před 6 měsíci +1

      So basically, you’re correct that 15 width is the best weighted CW for all terrain, but you want to know efficient CWs across a bunch of different widths depending on what the division’s goal is and what your nation can afford in equipment and manpower. This is also mostly relevant if you’re min-maxing or playing competitively. Ever since the game left the 20 and 40 width meta when the terrain sizes changed, the largest possible penalty was decreased so that any size between 10 and 40 is viable. The difference is definitely noticeable, but usually the division composition/doctrines/tech levels/air or naval support/Intel or spy modifiers/entrenchment/supply/armor/piercing all matter so that a slightly worse CW by itself wouldn’t change too much in a casual playthru.

    ngl, mr Feedback sir, you got me scratching my head with this one (yes, I watched both videos).
    caveat: I'm just back from a hoi4 hiatus, but I tested some templates and I believe my arguments are valid in the current version.
    At first glance, it seems that you're reinventing infantry tanks with AA support, except you've put the AA on the infantry tanks, and added artillery to compensate for the loss of tank-based soft attack. But I don't really see a point building this over standard tank-supported infantry.
    compare and contrast to this: 9 infantry, 1 slow medium tank batallion w a close support gun or howitzer, plus artillery and AA support. That's been my go-to "infantry, but chonky" template since NSB. I really don't see how you're improving over that. SPAA is more cost-effective for armor, but less cost-effective for soft attack, and loses a lot of breakthrough, which infantry divisions can really use.
    Furthermore, in the first part you suggest support artillery is less cost-effective... on a division that has line artillery? Last time I checked support AA provides 60% of the soft attack with 33% of the equipment.
    So my question is this: what has changed so fundamentally in the last patch that my analysis is incorrect? or were you just trying to be funky for funkiness' sake?

    Why you no use entrenchment thing for tanks?

    • @Vaelosh466
      @Vaelosh466 Před 6 měsíci +3

      Tanks are offensive units mostly, if you're using them defensively you're probably moving them around the line to reinforce breaking tiles, not keeping them in one place. If you mean engineers they just aren't worth the support company slot, on a tank you'd rather have logistics and signal, maybe maintenance, recon for movement speed, flame tanks, and support artillery or AA if you aren't doing soft attack tanks or SPAA.

    • @larsn97
      @larsn97 Před 6 měsíci +1

      A good use of the entrenchment module can be in flame tanks. Flame tanks have huge debuffs on many modules but entrenchment is not one of them.
      On the other hand it is also a good strategy to make flame tanks as cheap as possible and as fast as needed. So spending the IC for entrenchment is not worth it in this option.

    • @aaronfalcon3152
      @aaronfalcon3152 Před 6 měsíci +3

      Defensive Tanks are pretty specialised (like you're creating a division for a specific tile), namely static defensive positions which you can't lose or want to grind your enemy out on. Definitely not a general division tool.
      Normal tanks really don't need them.

    24w 10 inf 1 AA tank 1 AT Tank, boost the armor and grab pioneers , support Arty, flame tank, Logistics and mant. Probably could make a case for adding hospitals. That’s all I use for front line inf. Can even use LT for your AA and At over medium in single player. At most for arty I’ll use a 10 inf 1 arty for mass inf to hold lines with the same support. You can build dedicated armor for spearheads and make sure you have good fighters and cas and you won’t lose.

  • @larsn97
    @larsn97 Před 6 měsíci +3

    I dislike the division in the video. Having only 6 only penetration is quite problematic. In my opinion if you spent the IC by putting a tank into a division it should be able to penetrate enemy divisions with thanks. This can be easily done by giving the division support anti tank cannons or using tanks which also give the penetration (like medium cannon) and support AA.
    On another Note, there is no BEST division in HOI4. If you want to be successful in the game, you need to take into account how strong you and the enemy are and on what terrain you are fighting, and design the divisions accidently.
