@@soonerstone80 Dead serious. OU's offense was ranked 27th this year. The lowly 4-8 SC was ranked 24th in offense. The offense of our new OC at Ole Miss was ranked 4th. That's a substantial upgrade. OU's defense wasn't even in the top 50 in the country. We were ranked 68th! I mean the lowly 4-8 SC was 89th. The defense under our new head coach while his time as the DC at Clemson was perennially a top 10 defense with most years finishing in the top 5. I'm not sure how closely you watched Oklahoma Football this year but we barely beat 6 of the 9 unranked teams by one score, and we lost to 2 of the 4 ranked teams that we played. I mean crap we were down 10-0 at half to Kansas for crying out loud.

What program wouldn't want 22 four & five star players on their roster?? That's exactly the type of roster ou will have to build up & maintain in order to compete with Alabama, Georgia, LSU, etc. year in & year out.

I have been questioning how good Riley really was.
Baker: was great because he could extend drives. He would move in the pocket, shead tackles and hit a WR who broke off his route.
Kyler: faster than everyone else. If nothing was open, he would take off.
Hurts: He would either hit Lamb who would go beast mode or he would take off running.
Spencer: 1st QB Riley recruited..... Did not get developed.

Venables + Lebby is a massive upgrade over Riley + Grinch. OU is in good hands. Riley is scared to play in the SEC (where his 3 playoff losses are). Venables has been at Clemson for 10 years and has been the DC on 2 National Championship teams at Clemson (1 more at Oklahoma). Lebby ran the #4 offense in the country this year playing in the SEC. Riley ran the #11 offense in the country this year playing in the Big 12. LEBBY IS A MASSIVE OFFENSIVE UPGRADE OVER RILEY! VENABLES IS A MASSIVE DEFENSIVE UPGRADE OVER GRINCH!

It sounds completely insane to say this, but I think the fans kinda felt like the program had stagnated this year. We (fans) expected the status quo on offense and a marked improvement in defense. Not entirely unreasonable after the remarkable talent fielded by the offense over the past few years and the hype surrounding the defense.
I for one was "concerned" after repeated sub-par performances early, but figured the growing pains weren't insurmountable.
Throughout the course of the season though, it never seemed like there was any consistent improvement on either side of the ball (C.W. not withstanding). PRIOR to L.R. announcing his departure, I was not particularly excited about next season. My thinking being, it'll be more of the same next year. The Sooners struggle to get into the playoffs and then get run out of the first game.
Change can be (and often is) scary. I whole heartedly believe that for the Sooners to get back to being a team that NO ONE wants to play, this change was not only necessary, but paramount.

There's only One Oklahoma and we need someone here that really believes that and values what that means to the program, the fans and to all the critics. Lincoln never stood for that, so, good for him. We don't need to showboat, we are literally blue collar and will work for what we have and will be rewarded for that!

Venables has more personality than Stinkin Lincoln. His defensive philosophy is better. His excitement to be at OU is greater. His sense of loyalty is unmatched. Glad to see him back. Ultimately the players leaving and de-committing will be the only problems Stinkin Lincoln has created and those will, hopefully, be short term.

The first year, there could be issues with buy in. Barring a small player revolt because they were for the most part recruited by a "buddy" type of coach, OU should be in great shape sooner rather than later. IF there should be more serious pushback, that will be tougher and take longer but fans need to be patient if that occurs. By the way, go back and watch highlights of the 2012 OU/Texas game. OU , had Schmitty as S&C coach, Texas had Bennie Wiley. I will say, I hope Schmitty is a tad bit more aware of the RECOVERY aspect of training. I suspect in the past he might have actually overtrained guys to the degree it could be anti productive.
