Why? He’s a great cover corner, but the bears mainly play zone so his talent is wasted. That’s why they haven’t paid him already. Dline is much more important for their style of play. That’s why sweat, who is about the same rank at his position let’s say, was acquired for picks AND made one of the highest paid players. As you saw from the previous few years, having a great secondary and no line doesn’t work, but having a great line and average secondary works in zone most of the time

I’m very impressed with the play of the defense with Montez Sweat and Yannick Ngakoue getting to the Quarterback. The offense was better, but I’m still not sold on Luke Getsy’s playcalling. The one head scratching play on a toss to Herbert on 4th down was stupid, but this was a satisfying win for the bears
Agree. Eberflus has the defense looking phenomenal, but the offense under Getsky still leaves a lot to be desired. Too predictable with the routes, doesn’t spread the ball enough to Kmet, and has Moore in the weirdest plays. Thank god the Moore-Fields connection is amongst the best in the league.
Getsky definitely needs to be let go after this season, bare minimum, and the we need a new center, whether in FA or the draft. Olu and MHJ in the draft would be a good start.

@@twoface9959Getsy " doesn't spread the ball". The QB does that. Fields "doesn't spread the ball" and that is just one of many faults he still has. He will never be a long term success until he can deliver the football consistently midrange and short to multiple receivers.
Either way they entire coaching staff has to go. If you’re replacing getsy you may as well send Eberflus with him.

Sweat is good, but Peppers was quicker off the ball and far more flexible. He was a SUPREME athlete. Sweat is very good, but Peppers is a hall of Famer.

Gotta admire what the bears have been doing these past couple games. Starting the season 0-4 and then going 5-4 in the following games show some great progress. Bears might be a pretty serious threat next year
Bears have an interesting schedule to end the season. The Browns defense next week will be tough but after that is Cardinals, Falcons, and Packers. If and it’s a big if, if they beat the browns maybe the Bears have hope.
Bears are 3-1 since Montez Sweat trade. Only loss was a blown game against Lions 2 weeks ago.

The Bears are definitely on to something. They finished the job today that they should have three weeks ago. If it weren't for two freak leads blown, they could have very well been sitting at 7-6 at this point. Although they still have the potential to end the season at 9-8 with their upcoming schedule.
AND they have still have the #1 pick in the draft next year.

Chicago Bears need to keep Justin Fields they have a good team in the draft they need to get Marvin Harrison from Ohio State and they need to get two more offensive lineman they need to just put more pieces around Justin Fields
DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Marvin Harrison would be a killer 3 slot with Kmet being the super talented tight End to round it out. Those weapons would have Fields looking like MVP for a decade.

The trade and payday wouldn’t be concerning separately, but together it makes it a very expensive trade, especially since the bears weren’t all in this year anyways. It ended up working out, but it could’ve easily just been another claypool situation.

As Lions fan, I can say this has been an exciting season, but sometimes for the wrong reasons. They've excelled at showing they can play two terrible quarters and still come back to win the game. Today, they tried their hand at playing 3 terrible quarters, and it didn't go so well for them. Overall, I've enjoyed watching them this season (with some frustrating moments mixed in), but I think a lot of the media and Lions fans have to come back down to earth about the amount of work this team still needs.
If this game doesn’t prove that Aaron Glenn should be fired after this game, we ain’t winning a playoff game

The Bears D is one edge rusher away from being a scary defense.
The Bears should definitely build next year around Justin Fields and bring him a new weapon like Marvin Harrison Jr. or trade the #1 overall pick and fortify that offensive line with Joe Alt.
They don't need MH specifically. Just a big receiver with some speed and hands that can beat his man within 5 yards if the line. There are many of those.

The calls worked BIG a few weeks ago, going for it on 4th multiple times. I think he has gotten way too comfortable taking some of those wild chances. But it's actually being done around the league a lot more than in previous years. It's fun to watch and exciting when it works....but it's not good play calling.

@@erikr1904 i think the defense did a better job with fields but it’s hard to play defense when the offense can’t sustain drives. Look at the 2nd half drives. You can’t expect the defense to not give up more plays when they constantly are on the field. Defense does need to tackle better. If we get guys on the ground it’s a different story but too many missed tackles more so than scheme or coaching. Guys are in position but Bears wanted it more
The NFL is always better with a good Bears team. They're a foundational franchise with a strong history and legacy, despite only 2 championships in the past 76 years. This version seems to have talent, and I hope they build on it and recapture their Monsters of the Midway identity. Lions looking a little raggedy and now 9-4. Maybe just a blip.

You can’t go 8-8, because they added a game. I believe they can literally go 9-8 and make the playoffs as a 7th seed. If I am a NFC team, I wouldn’t want to see this Bears team in a wild card game. The defense has drastically improved, Fields has gotten better with throwing and decision-making, and the team is on the same page. If all this happens, you cannot draft a QB, so you go ahead and get the greatest receiver in CFB Marvin Harrison Jr.

Wow, a Gadget play by Bears OC Luke Getsy that actually works in the 1st quarter. Don't know why that gadget play isn't used more often. Bears QB Justin Fields had good day as a starter; hopefully he can continue to make improvements to keep his QB job and will be back in a Bears uniform in 2024.
