You must be new to hockey. When a skill player gets in a lopsided fight with a good fighter the linesman try to break it up as soon as possible, even if the skilled player tried to start it for show.

They analyzed that hit and came to the conclusion that there shouldnt have even been a penalty on the hit. It was the same thing that happened in the playoff game when the sharks went on a 5 minute pp over an overreaction call.the problem was they think they needed to call a penalty only because it resulted in injury not that the act itself was a penalty.
