The song Crying At The Discotheque would usually want a video recorded in - you guessed it - a disco or club, but I have been thinking so much recently about all my musician and crew friends who can't work at the moment, I thought a video where I film in as many empty London venues as possible would highlight all that's on hold at the moment.
I worked again with my favourite team for my videos, Sophie Muller, Robbie Ryan and Lisa Laudat, and we did all 7 venues in one day. It was strangely moving performing in those places to no crowd when I'd sang in them previously so full of life. I hope it brings home the gap in our culture at the moment. It's a scary time for so many people in my industry - please do head to www.wemakeevents.com/ to find out how you can support the events industry right now.
Heartfelt thanks to the venues that welcomed us in to film: St Moritz, Bush Hall, Omeara, Clapham Grand, Heaven, Apollo Theatre, The O2 Arena.

23 years onwards and she’s still rocking the dancefloor, long live Sophie Ellis-Bextor 💃🪩💖
It's just a shame the voice doesn't compare anywhere near to the original.
si effettivamente la versione cantata da lei non è male ha una bellissima voce però gli anni 80 sono gli anni 80... sorry
Here after to watch Alcazar singing it on Eurovision 2024 ❤️
A sensible length too. I have no idea why we only got two minutes of Alcazar at Eurovision. As many have commented it was the best song of the night.
You know. This video somehow is so nostalgic because of its context. Seeing those places empty due to the pandemic is so dramatic, and there was this promise that we were going to meet there later. 😢
I will say one thihng to you women, and this is true, because we love you, we absoluete love you, everyone of you, everyone single one ot you..... every single man loves every single girl this is not a choice, this is not a behaoure... this is who we are... we just love you girls.. we just do....
The real Saltburn winner !
Please, Sophie... Bring the Kitchen Disco Tour to Australia!!! We've supported you through the whole Kitchen Disco period!
Glad things are back to normal no more mask, social distancing, lockdowns or hand sanitiser! We did it - we didn’t let it change us and we only come back to really appreciate all the things we get to do.
This could be an hymn for the times of coronavirus. The video represents exactly the early times when this thing started. Greetings from Chile
One of the UK's most gorgeous woman, loved her for years
Omg. I love it. She is back to her dance roots. That's right. Put on your glitter jumpsuit and dance under the shiny disco balls like there's no other. Not even the confinement will stop us from dancing.
This was a beautiful tribute to Alcazar, keeping the rhythm, the beat and everything. Sophie always showing great respect for disco music!
Es um cover de los 70 s sheila el espacial..no es cover de alcazar
@@DereckRoman-vg3ri although it has samples from Spacer, this version is Alcazar's, the lyrics and the added instrumentals are exactly the same.
It was better than Alcazar......the video definitely was due to the covid crap, simple, basic, but there for brilliant now covid's nearly forgotten.
@@mirola73¿lo hicieron así intencionalmente o por la fecha? La verdad que les salió buenísimo. Quizás ya lo habían programado antes del covid
As others pointed out, the sample is from Spacer, arguably one Nile Rodgers best productions and performed by an absolute icon , Sheila B
after murder on the dance floor , going to hear all your songs , so many talented singers came from britain , i suggest you organize concerts all over thw world , this is your time
Her voice is like liquid gold and she’s so beautiful.

True story friend. 😄
Such a fluid voice
Dance yourself dizzy,my friend.....
Very pretty, I never heard about that singer until this very moment. The song is almost there, but I was waiting for that catchy moment and it never came....
At the moment, should be called "Crying For The Discotheque"
now that's funny !
Hey, you!
:) 100 % !
i could cry
Crying, singing and dancing at the same time would have made it more original.😂
Crying At The Discotheque
she looks SO good I cannot believe she was 39 here
the idea behind the clip is really brilliant. This is the modest testimony of an epoque.
Wow...so well phrased. Another education not wasted!!
Cuz she's rapLed everywhere.
Until she was dead
Crying without a discotheque...
Stay safe and dance :)
I can't believe this song is 22 years old... I'm crying... At the discotheque
A modern disco diva no doubt
Wow. Who said nostalgia couldn't be sparkly.
Sophie brings us happy vibes in what has been an awful year so far...
We play this while we cry
she should have done the vocals to the original ...this is class
Brilliant video, promoting a fantastic version of the song but also highlighting the plight of all the empty live venues. Very clever.
the video clearly conveys the atmosphere of 2020
This video clip is an authentic documentation of this time
yep, must have had zero budget
@@oruemulgrew9187 I wouldn't quite call it zero budget, I mean it has drones; A Grammy, VMA and Brit award-winning director, and features the many major London venues. Admittedly the lighting in some venues is a bit off which I think makes it look lower budget than it is.
@@oruemulgrew9187 🤣🤣🤣
@@oruemulgrew9187 loolol
She took a perfect song and made it better. I don't know how that is possible
I love Sophie Ellis-Bextor! You rock it!
There are cool mums, then there is Sophie Ellis Bextor.
The message is that she is still growing as an artist !!!! She started from local bars to conquered big stadiums !!!!
Helo
Oh my GOSH! I remember this song. I loved it the first time I heard it. But I can't remember from where I know it. She sounds a bit like Billie Ray Martin, who sang "Loving Arms".
What great song!!! Glad I found it again.
We all crying at disco in pandemia time... Great song!
Kylie, Sophie and Dido are back with new music, 2020 has a bright side.
unfortunetly this music is sooo kind of boring. It's just about nothing. Pity for them...
Agree! They are saving 2020!
@@mixmixman9469 You don't have videos or playlists on your channel. Your opinion is not important, Bye

So you should like every song release for all the artists in entire world because you're problably not a singer too and, in your opinion, a person who doesn't sing technically have to like everything. VeRy SmArT
Dido? 👀👀👀👀 Any new music recommendations?🤩
I love that concept of a concert for no audience. Such a mark of 2020.
Was thinking the same.
photo of the 2020
Very poignant. I think it speaks to all of us in lockdown at the moment.
@@westermolad We all hope in a few months or a year Sophie remake the same video clip with 5000 people around. Patience all over the world we will hug again soon!!!
Watch Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii 1972
Her vocals sound so timeless and epic in this one
Tell you what sophie has always been gorgeous. But my god shes more beautiful now than ever x
This video is deeper than it seems. Sophie, the undisputed queen of dance, sings and dances with the same style, joy and glamor as always, but this time there is no audience; she sings to empty chairs, to auditoriums without people. These are times of uncertainty. Right now Europe is swelling the list of infected again. There is no certainty of the future. I interpret this video as a cry of hope and optimism from the dance queen to the world: even if there may be no one in the auditorium, even if there are no shouts in the stadium, even if there are no people in the disco, I will sing and follow him doing even the last person standing on the planet.
Thats true!
Lovely sentiment
" Right now Europe is swelling the list of infected again" yes, it is swelling like huge soap bubble. Who knows, maybe lot of people are suffering allready now on brain related side effects of the f... virus.
@@tenhendee5479 Virus hystery is a hoax.
Well said Doctor!
"When disco spreads like a bacteria, These lonely days are out"... Wow the brilliance of selecting this song, and doing this video, to highlight the despair we all feel now is just genius. Well done Sophie, always love your work.
Now I really like this version! Plus SEB can sing like a pro live - no processing or editing needed!
Richard Gere was the first human to wear a tie, after reportedly being inspired by Donkey Kong.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is A COOL MOM!
I remember watching her mother on Blue Peter many years ago.
Her voice takes you straight to the earlies 2000's 🥺
2001 Alcazar, i don't know who better!!! It's amazing

@@saturnpicses Her singing this just amplifies the 2001 effect. It is like time travel.
Nobody likes England
It is very moving to watch this video. A movie plays in my head, the entire Covid-19 epidemic, fear of contamination, people dying, a strange feeling of isolation, but at the same time I remember the almost funny moments, of having improvised parties at home, just with the family, or alone .. To those who survived, we lived and we are here to tell the story.
This video is definitely the anthem for the Covid period.
She’s the Disco Queen from our era 👸🏻 no discussion 💖🕺🏻💃🏻
She just doesn't friggin age. Unbelievable.
i was thinking the same thing :)
You need glasses folks, she does.
The bum and belly are bigger after the kiddies.
Nothing more than natural though and better looking as well.
@@mirola73 Sure, she obviously changed, but you could not tell her age just by her looks.
@@mirola73 well done Bobby Pedant. Life duly sucked outta the guy’s nice compliment. Anyway...Soph is timeless
Watching this, makes me glad to be alive, shes incredible

Omg! I love Sophies version. It's glorious to hear! 😍
Edit: during second wave of quarantine I wish it will be more Kitchen Disco 🕺
Greetings from Poland
Alcazars is better nowt beats the original
and our discos are closed .....no more atmosphere no more dance .......nice video , this reflects how we all over the world are feeling , empty !!!
Sophie - DO it with fully crowded please - no isolation
Yes she is beyond great.
This is so criminally underrated! What sad times we live in when people show no more love for disco!
I was 18 -1974 -when disco music started to come in . It's still fun . Solidly written songs . Great voices . WHAT a 'nod' to the dance music that turned the 70's up on its head
This isn’t disco. This is Alcazar. It’s from 20 years ago
@@PureHiNRG turned into disco
Between Sophie, Kylie, Jessie, Dua, and now apparently Beyoncé there is plenty of loved for disco and house music stylings
@@PureHiNRG Sampling "Spacer" by Sheila & B Devotion - a disco song from 1979
Damn I’m old.
I remember Alcazar doing this & Sheila B Devotion’s Spacer base line!!
Actually Chic / Nile Rodgers, they played on it and produced it, Sheila just sang. Sister Sledge the same

Ooooh yessss! 🙂️
You're in good company darling
Seeing Sophie in a stadium, singing and dancing to...no one, gives this song a whole new meaning, and teaches us a very important lesson.... You don't always need others around to have a good time.
So true that!
Either that or everyone went to the wrong arena.....
Thank you Sophie Ellis-Bextor for the Kitchen Disco Videos during the pandemic. It helped a lot to see you guys doing that when you're alone in your flat for months staring at a computer screen.
And I'm really happy for you that "Murder" got again the recognition it deserves, thanks to "Saltburn".
All those empty spaces, makes you think about this atrocious year... but then, there is Sophie and this fantastic song and suddenly everything is ok.
Its a ptoblem but having music like this OK dance on your own in the house the garden the street lets face it who the eck cares JUST DO IT enjoy LIFE
Q: Why was Sophie Ellis-Bextor crying at the Discotheque?
A: The Murder on the Dance Floor.
Mayb, because no body take her home
Boom Boom!
answer C is correct
Looking out for Angela Lansbury
Nobody was listening her...
My lock down anthem
I Quote My Friend:"Learn, Master, Break"
The version of this song by Alcazar was playing on the radio when I was driving home after passing my driving test after 4 failed attempts over a 15 year period.
I have never experienced joy like it before or since when I finally succeeded in passing it.. I had to go to HMV to buy the cd single of this song to try and recapture the euphoria of that moment . Yes, cd single- it was a while ago!
I love Sophie and love her version of it!
but alcazar no original ok , original sheila b Devotion - spacer czcams.com/video/zoEFv1GpPU4/video.html 5 stars !!!!

Congrats on the pass :D
That's brilliant! I was actually expecting that she would have woken up in her living room at the end of the video, revealing that it was a great dream. Love the idea, such a great energy
I bet she loved singing this in her living room many a night lol. Why not.
She deserves a great deal of respect for bringing some kind of happiness at a time when everybody was feeling down!!
It's crazy to think back only a few years when we were all stuck inside.
The Kitchen Disco Friday nights were an absolute highlight of the week, and I'm sure helped a lot of us copy with those months/year(s) !
I love the way this was filmed, in a venue(s) where it would normally be packed to the rafters, but it's just her on stage, I think it captured the feeling so well for what we were going through.
@@leighsaunderson9203Londres es hermosa al igual que ella. London is beautiful equal that she.
If somebody wrotes everlasting songs then it's Nile Rodgers.
She still rocks those sparkling heels.

This is a BANGER, why is this not everywhere!!??
This breaks my heart. Especially the last shot in the O2 arena. I've worked in the event and music industry for the past 8 years. And it's been taken away from everyone. One day we will return to touring and gigging. Good on you Sophie for doing this. Much love ❤️
wrong. people gave it away. acquiesce to the state has always ended in maximum misery. History has proven that. apparently people have not learned that you NEVER give up freedoms for security. buckle up kansas because the state is not nearly done with us.
I love this woman. She is pure class.
Yes, very very good song and Sophie Ellis Bextor is amazing.

Better than the original version tbh
You've still got it! And that's from someone who had a (young boy's!) crush on your mum!
Take care and keep your family safe.
I don't know what it is about Sophie's voice, even 20 years later still listening to her I get goosebumps. I really do miss the dance scene I really do. I got to say for a woman that has five kids she looks fantastic. she'll probably never be a Donna Summers but she's damn close.
Wow still looks and sound the same in 1990s beautifull i remember top of the pops when sophie was on
❤sad though empty stadium but us fans were here.
This is the very best COVID video of era. This is the hymn!
This was brilliant 👏 we are all crying during this pandemic for having no concerts. Love this video!
Me gustaría saber si hay alguna forma de hacer el deposito en casa
I was lucky enough to avoid any lockdowns so far, but this past month has been absolutely hell.
I have known so many people die of Covid in the past 2 weeks.
The streets are so quiet and I suddenly felt like watching this music video again.
Please stay safe everyone.
Ohh, Sophie! Your beauty matches the amaziness of this song and music video! You and Kylie Minogue are the most competent artists when it comes to Disco Music. No one can do it better than both of you (I'm craving for a collab between you and Kylie). Some people think that a good music video needs a lot of money to spend on it, but it's not true, at all. Your new video is gorgeous, the photograpy is fabulous, your clothe is striking, the locations are iconic, and your energy is fantastic. Thank you, Sophie, and regards from Brazil.
OMG, that's Bush Hall!!! Remember seeing Sophie and the band do an intimate album launch there; fabulous venue & Sophie is always the best value! Big love Ms. Ellis Bextor.
Golden years🌙💫💫✨🌟🌟⭐silver tears😢😢😥😥😓😓😓
So cool that you paid tribute to all these venues!! The logistics alone of trying to do this during the pandemic must have been nuts!! It's truly a video for our times! Kind of depressing to see all these places deserted but with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Loved every second of this video and TUNE! imagine people watching this 5, 10, 20 years from now going...why is she in all these empty venues???

Amazing! Love that she’s performing to an audience of no one. Bittersweet that she’s doing such a great performance but just for herself. Such a comment on what life once was and what were missing out on.
High thoughts! Lol ^
I did exactly back in Amsterdam, crying at a discotheque while dancing, too much pain.
No one noticed as I dance all the time energetically without any boost as I never use any drug just my natural energy (Aquarius Sun + Aries Ascendant/Rising = endless energy, misunderstood as ADHD, my twin in this zodiac placement is Shakira) then secretly wiped the tears unnoticeably. No one realized this as I'm seen as very independent happy strong world traveler young man as if I have no heart.
Si lees esto. Déjame decirte que eres hermosa 💖
