- Is this the most brutal time trial in Grand Tour history? At 18.5km in length, it's the shortest of the three TTs at this year's Giro, but the final 7.4km to Monte Lussari are hellish. The climb averages 11.7%, with sections of up to 25%! Will we see another change in the maglia rosa?

I'd have been happy to see either of these guys take pink. Awesome efforts!
I am from Croatia, near Slovenia, and I am crazyyy of happinesss because first slovenian wins giro. 🤪🤪🤪🤪
Just une country whit Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Marcedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. 🤔 Separated by politics... 😢
amazing to witness. roglic winning on home roads and redeeming the 2020 failure. beautiful.
Failure? Why? He did what he could it is just Pog was stronger.
@@tonyg3091 Doing 5th time in that TT when he was arguably 1st-2nd by far is a failure.
@@tonyg3091 As a Slovenian i can say that primoz is more popular and supported and also pogi won kt next year
@@satangw2 Pogacar was superhuman that day. Even if Roglic had an exceptional day he would have still lost.
@@satangw2 Everybody has a bad day in the Grand Tours, Primoz was unlucky to have his bad day at the worst possible time. And Pogacar was insane that day.
I really like Thomas and wanted him to win. That was an amazing effort by Roglic
Very surprised by Primoz considering he tried and couldn't drop GT yesterday. Brilliant ride by Roglic🤌👏
What an effort from Roglic. Sooo happy for him. Respect to Thomas as well.
That was huge. Roglic's best career win. Thomas not bad for an old guy.
Come on! I'm just starting to watch the coverage
Spoiler alert!
Slovenian doping efforts yet again stellar
@@johnpearceboyerimagine watching highlights and going straight into the comments 🤷🏼♂️😂
I am not a particular fan of Primoz, but I can't help but tip my hat off for the iron will of this admirable man.
After so many heartbreaks and crashes that cost him a ton of races over his career, he was able to keep his composure when he had his mechanical issue and forge ahead undeterred. Mere mortals (like me) would have simply given up psychologically, considering that he was still trailing Geraint in the virtual GC at that point.
Of course Geraint had a bit of a jour sans today, but in any case Primoz took his chance when it presented itself, and that's all that matters. Now that he equalled Tony Rominger in grand tours, there's no denying he earned his place among the greats!
Chapeau Primoz! Utterly deserved!
I stopped reading after you said you weren't a fan of Rogla 🤣 Imagine not being a fan of the best current athlete in a sport
@@AshenWednesday No problem. That's a common issue among people who failed at reading classes during childhood.
For one reason or another, they may skip words (particular, in this case) and so they completely misunderstand the point.
But hey, Roglic won the Giro so even his less literate fans can realise that and cheer up.
@@MarcaoPT😂 👏🏻
Apparently it was his former ski jumping teammate Mitja Mežnar with whom he won team ski jumping youth categories world championship in 2007 who helped him after mechanical 😮 what a story...
Wow...
Great to hear that.
From your info. I believes Jumbo is a great cycling squad!!!
I was rooting for Primoz for the whole Giro. He totally deserves it. What he shown us today is simply a lesson for all of us, a lesson of never giving up, energy, motivation and inspiration. He is just legendary. All the best from Romania ❤
Eastern Europe baby!🇸🇮
A lesson of what a state driven doping system can achieve if anything
@@sembiotic3468so don't watch. 🤷🏻♀️
Shout out to Thomas for being such a good sport despite the loss, good man
Such a bitter sweet moment: happy for Primoz' victory and sad for Geraint's loss. But loved their battle to the last seconds and all the glory and respect to both of these two great champs! 🏆🏆
All week I kept thinking “Primoz is running out of road to take pink” but 18km is all he needed to get the job done 🏆
Impressed by Pinot’s top 5 very happy for him
This giro turned out to be quite exciting and memorable in the end 😊. Legendary victory for Roglic, he has again proven what a true warrior he is… The whole jumbo team deserves a lot of credit as does the exemplary Ineos team… G was such a stately leader of the race and his performance is also truly commendable! This is such an amazing redemption for Roglic, hope he gets his TDF win too (the one that got away…)… love grand tour racing ❤
I found it quite boring up until this stage
Would’ve loved G to win as he’s a class sportsman but fair play to Roglic who battled to the end and took a well-deserved win. Like G a real gent on and off the bike so, speaking even as a Brit, I’m still happy.
I feel like Thomas wasnt 100% today. Perhaps he shouldnt have attacked the last 0.5 KM yesterday. He didnt see quite himself on this inclines at the end.
@@2011hwalker That’s all easy to say in hindsight. And it probably wouldn’t have made enough of a difference, since Roglic finally seemed to have found his form (he was improving every stage after his crash) and because of that was unstoppable for Thomas today. Especially since this TT suits Roglic so well and Thomas less, because it has such a steep climb
Shades of TdF 1989 with Lemond clawing back over 50 seconds on Fignon to win by 8 seconds on an unusual final day ITT. This edition of the Giro turned out to be entertaining and combative to the end. Congrats to Primoz!
I remember watching that one, and being a big Lemond fan, jumping up out of my seat in celebration when it became clear Fignon was just that little bit too slow at the line. One for the ages.
Yes yes yes finally. So deserved. Also not forget to mention Sepp Kuss. Crucial figure for Primož win. Always there when Roglič struggling, without Sebb this giro would be a lot harder to win for Primož. As Primož fan, i will be forever grateful to this man. I really hope Primož could return him a favor somehow one day, for all Sepp has done for him all these years. If Primož decide to change a team for maybe one last push for Tour, we can only dream Sepp will go with him.
He deserved it after last year’s Vuelta’s crash and the 2020 TDF disaster!! Respect for G and Almeida also
I JUST NEED TO SAY THANK YOU for making a video without spoiling the results!!! Appreciate the title and not giving anything away
Sorry, I know it's all about Thomas and Roglic today.
But Leknessund's 9th place is really remarkable!
Exactly what I just thought!!!
Top 10 is alway$ nice ;-)
Can’t wait to see more of the young Norwegian. We as Slovenians are big fans of our ski jumping “brother nation” Norway 😊
And also important for team DSM to secure their future in the World Tour!
He’s in 8th.
Not even SRAM could take down Roglic 👏🤌
Spectacle after all, after a long wait. Well done on Roglic, couldn't be easy keeping his composure like that.
I can't imagine being in that position and having a chain drop off. Not that I'd ever be in that position in the first place, but if I was I would have most likely cracked there. Taken 20 seconds to put it back on.
Crazy climb, the bike path that they used was incredible
I can't believe Roglic almost got SRAM'd
Hahaha
what is SRAM mean??....😮
@@GeoAce777 SRAM makes bike groupsets / equipment. Competitor to Shimano. Jumbo Visma is using their stuff, so Roglic almost lost because the equipment provided by SRAM - a team sponsor - failed.

Congrats Roglic, rooting for you from Singapore. Next up TDF 2023.
For a 37 Year old, you're still a Welsh Machine Thomas, Congratulations to Roglic😀👍
Wow, what a story written by two amazing riders. Both deserved the win, but of course only one could have it
Great crowd Slovenia. Mountain TT's are so exiting. Epic win in what has been a great Giro.
Way to pull it out Primoz
It was a great stage! Mountain TTs never disappoint.
I was there on the Lussari, very well organized and great fun! (walking to the top was quite painful though 😅)
Stage 20 is molte bella
Good excercise 😂
@@ReaperOfSouls83 It was more fun with the skis, but also walking/jumping down that black slope was also quite interesting
Very happy to see roglic win and proud of what g.thomas can accomplish at age 37
WHAT a RIDE from ROGLIC ♥
Congrats to roglic. Suprised Thomas took so long on the changeover and lost 40 secs. Very surprised, but all riders contributed to a great Giro.
When Roglic had the mechanical! No one can say he didn't deserve that one! So happy for him, he's such a great champion, he's shown that over so many years by the way he takes the losses when he was so close, he always congratulates the winners.
I'm new into watching pro cycling but have followed TJV since WVA made me a fan last TDF. This stage was INCREDIBLE and Primoz has inspired the hell out of me. Let's goooooo!
What a stage, well done to both Roglic and Thomas for an incredible fight right to the end!
Superb effort by Rogla. Sad for Geraint, but Primoz has earned his win.
What a ride- just speechless with a having problems with the bike and still wining must be one of the best rides his done to win a race like that
Such a tough sport! Great race . Well done lads 👏🏻
What a stage besides the outcome. Well done Giro
Thanks for all the videos :)
Amazing comeback! Well deserved Primoz! Too bad for GT though.
Well done mister Rogla ! Sepp Kuss is the general on the Jumbo army !
I thought those 26 seconds were too much but boy was I wrong. Incredible effort by Primoz.
Finally and hopefully.... Dropping chain is the final badluck for Roglic.... Is time to see him winning Grand Tours again..... 🎉🎉🎉
Thomas and Roglic showing that you can be over 30 and challenge for a grand tour
Wow, Roglic wins by 40 seconds despite the mechanical mishap
Anyone else and there would be accusations of doping with a lead like that.
@@watcher24601 which is stupid since all of them are doped lol
Never seen so much leader chair shifts like today. Hats off to all the riders. My god the talent on show in this stage was mind blowing. I thought Pinot was going to be unbeatable.. how wrong could I have been. So many A games being played.
Congrats Primoz👏👏👏
A brutal stage that defined the determination of Roglic and the rest of the riders. Good effort to All who reached this stage of the race with all the challenges almost conquered ❤
Was rooting for Rogla all the way but I had to accept the possibility that Thomas would win. After the mechanical, everything seemed lost in dramatic fashion, once again. Total heartbreak. What happened then was absolutely legendary by Roglic. Not only did he make up for the mechanical, he was dominant from that point. Shout out to all the Slovenian fans and other fans pushing him up that mountain. All-time classic performance
Those great fans deserved the passion of Primoz winning the Giro.
They totally helped too. Must have been a rush to push through a sea of his own country mates and supporters to win a grand tour.
@@91945punxt looked pretty stressful to me, even if they were all his fans. Maybe that’s just me though, roglic seemed to enjoy it a lot
One of the greatest race
Wow!... I did not expect that, but well done Primoz😊 And good to see Thibault finish well deserving of his overall KOM.
I knew it!! Primoz is up to something! Lets go primoz roglic!!!!! Congrats champ!! Lets go JUMBO!!! Love from Philippines❤❤❤
Even with a mechanical on the climb. Well deserved win
I was poked fun at when just before the Giro started that I said 'to finish first, first you must finish'. Staying upright, not getting ill or injured and just enduring 3 hard weeks of racing is a feat in itself. Favouritism, first week form and reputation count for little when the race comes to its conclusion. Fighting to the end gives you the opportunity to win, fighting for a place means no chance to win.
Good for the race to have a decisive stage with everything in the balance just man vs man vs mountain. What a finish
Very well said! 👏👏👏
Sou fã desse ciclista Primoz Roglic é um exemplo dê atleta. 👏
Broke my heart G. Chapeau to Rog, a memorable win and redemption for '20.
Thanks for your highlights for this year's Giro.
Primoz Congratulations, and to all riders whom competed.
Happy ending for Roglic 🎉🎊
My heart beating up when the chain slip 🤣😂
i hope it's still beating up now
First two weeks were terrible, but this last week was incredible. Two great champions fighting it out to the last second. Gritty win by Roglic.
Imagine the gap if he didn't have a mechanical
Over 1 MIN easily
lost 19" so a 33" overall lead would have been twice as nice ;-) 🇸🇮🇻🇦🇮🇹
Maybe Rogla had a massive adrenaline rush from the mechanical.
But his body also got a little rest. So the actual time loss should be smaller than that.
I think the time would have been almost the same. He was absolutely flying after the scary chain incident
I’m sorry for G, but so happy for Primož. Both are worthy winners, both have had their ups and downs….well, the excitement came in the end, even if it was only for one stage!
I’m huge fan of both Roglic and G, but I was a little rooting for G since Roglic has won a couple of GTs already. That said, Roglic smashed this stage like a true champ
Amazing effort Thomas, great time trial Roglic, who has Sepp Kuss to thank even was insight at stage 20
Was rooting was GT, but Roglic's effort was too amazing!! Congratulation to him and TJV
Amazing finish!
Am sorry for Thomas, that was heartbreaking,it was the most brutal time trial profile in Grand tour history
Magnificent Roglic 🎉, also great performance Geraint 👏, it is what its
I knew Roglic would win this stage, but never thought that the margin would be so big..
My new favourite band ...
Hyperbaric Chambers and the Ketones.
Maybe next years Giro will include a penultimate stage finnish in Bristol..
Bravo Primož!!! Jajca iz jekla!!! 😎 Congrats to the composure when the bike chain fell off, he handled it like changing a diper. Kind of bitter, but you have to do it at that point 😅
Congrats also to Thomas, it was an interesting, dangerous and strategical grand tour!
i was waiting for this video
What an effort by.Thomas overall with so few team members. Same to Roglic with a pickup team, but an awesome TT>
Second time a portuguese rider finishes top 3 in a Grand Tour GC
He's making Agostinho proud.😉
well done Primoz. Great Giro!
I think G Thomas spent way too much time with the bike exchange. Not sure if the helmet swap was really necessary. Ineos should have picked up a few tricks from their fellow triathletes to nail down that bike to bike transition.
He was two seconds down after the bike change, including the helmet swap. He lost by 40 seconds. You do the maths.
He lost 38seconds on the climb. That’s where the damage was done.
And looking at the amount of salt in his suit it makes sense they chose cooling with the helmet over a couple second gain with keeping the aero helmet. G must have sweat a whole salt shaker full during this tt
Helmet weight difference is ~150-175g. That’s a wash with the helmet change at best.
44 minutes it’s not long enough to suffer from losing too much salt.
so happy for Rogla ♥️
PHENOMENAL! What a stage, and one for the ages.
It was so good. Mountain TTs never disappoint!
God damn, that was awesome!!!!
Рогалик !!! Бравоооооооооооо!!!! Лучший !
Primoz is like a nuclear power plant...one reactor goes down....but it is all working fine, bravo Primoz. It is not to be underestimated how much the support of the Slovenian fans spurred him on, especially when he must have felt the jinx after another (near)fatal mechanical.... he was on home soil, so to speak...but one caveat...the Giro is not over...while there traditionally will be no attacks, the GC guys, esp. the podium lads will have to finish the race, that's why....
Perfect✌️
Great effort by Roglic. Sad for Thomas but that's life/cycling!
Premo! What a guy
Crazy !
Just another reason and confirmation why the giro is so much better than the tour. What an amazing day in cycling history!!
cheered to Geraint ... sad he could not get the pink jersey ...
Sorry for Thomas as his career is waning but glad Primoz could do what was done to him by Pogi in 2020.
G is definitely far from waning after this Giro
@@sacredslayer9757 his career is waning, meaning he has fewer chances to make up for this. He did great! Later in his career, I feel for the guy
He’s 37. Most riders retire by now.
Congrats primos ride safe one more round and youll be the winner
Physiology of muscle stress, the pie plate gear means less stress on the pitches this a long tt, 44min the higher cadence is less stress/rev Thomas less rpm's more stress.
Roglic trained to the high cadence, and, he only did 1-rev after losing the chain, was mounting when the crew got there only lost about 5s the push by 2 mates awesome, they jetted him back to speed, awesome teamwork to see.
Great Giro best thoughts to those unable to finish, to start the honor alone 🏆
The push was great. Good on those guys.
That could have been a lot worse so Roglic got fortunate. Only lost about five seconds after the chain slipped out. If he had to do another bike change, that would take a lot longer.
@Nathan Kester He popped both feet out, dismounted & began mounting when the crew arrived [the bike mate set it down didn't toss it, by then the other got there & the two him up a steeper little pitch with speed over the crest to grade again with the last push, everything went right.
Thomas lost his legs, was hoping for better yet clear not his day, biggest chunk of the time diff for that, helmet ~5-sec loss a rule can't switch riding, still 21s ahead.
Great racing ... getting breakaways to the finish so edgy. 🍺
Wow! What a time trial. Congratulations, Roglic.
Although the race for pink has been a slow burner at times, it was definitely worth it for the last few days of racing!
@@gcnracing Agreed.
What, no spoilers today? You spoil me! 😂
make a movie from this. roglic is epic 👏🏽👏🏽
I think the grand tours moving away from more time trials has been for the worse. This race shows the time trials were very exciting and eventful. I wish the TdF would throw another TT in every year and see how it goes.
Bravo Rogi!!! Rogi & Pogi for total domination, go on lads, kick some cycling royal arse!!!
It aint over till its over...after 3 weeks....pink jersy is all he wanted to wear on sunday..and he will. Go Roglic go. Greetings from Slovenia.🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮
