Note: There weren't TOO many changes since we recorded this preview, but Wout Poels is no longer competing (much to his disappointment) and Hugh Carthy has decided not to ride. Don't forget you can keep up to date with all things Giro 2024 at: www.globalcyclingnetwork.com/racing/races/road/elite-men/giro-ditalia/2024
Why did Carthy withdraw from the Giro?
I was wondering the same. I was wondering about both of them actually. Apparently Poels team didn't think he was on form yet so saving him for TDF but not sure why Carthy has withdrawn because up until 3 days ago he was still planning on riding so not sure what changed in the past 72 hours🤔@@AlexRochette
Looking forward to watching the Giro on GCN+!…. Oh wait 😢
These reviews make the race more interesting to watch. especially like the stages to watch part.
Thanks! Any stage or rider caught your eye?
@@gcnracing I am very much interested in sprint stages. This is star studded field. Will love to see J. Milan. Stage 15 is a must, followed by 17. ln any case these are beautiful mountains to watch.
I'm a big sprint finish fan also. I didn't know the Giro sprint field was so good this year. The one sprinter at beginning of year who I thought would have a great season was Merlier and so far he's been doing spectacular but another sprinter caught my attention and that's because I know nothing about him but he looked pretty formidable and that is Kooij. I agree that he'll win at least one stage but I think he'll be the biggest thorn in Merliers' side
🤘🏻🏴
Pogacar is the most obvious favorite to win, but his team and tactics can be a weakness. Also, Pogacar may want to preserve some form for the Tour. If he races the way he likes to, there is a risk that he will burn out by the Tour. For Pogacar to achieve his goal of a Giro-Tour double win, he will need to race with some restraint and tactics for his team.
A Giro-Tour double would be amazing wouldn’t it?
I think he will need to do get so far ahead on one or two big climbs then ride very conservatively to save his legs if he is to try and win the Tour as well. Jonas is going to be well of the pace this Tour so he’s as good a chance in a long time to do the double
I agree 100% mate! His team has always been the weakness at the TDF and to see the team here at Giro it really doesn't look very strong so that will be a big factor but we all know Pogi and as long as he puts some time into his "rivals" in the first week I think it will be all he needs to do cos it's no secret that it's a limited GC field this Giro. Pogi just wants to win win win tho so having him restrained will be hard for him but that's what he'll need to do in order to be on top form at TDF. But then again the TDF is somewhat limited GC field also so . . . 🤔
🤘🏻🏴
@@DB-ez9ud I don't think it's a guarantee that Jonas will even be at TDF. It will be a long hard road to be on top form for him and it's virtually impossible to be honest. But Jonas at 90% is still going to make a good battle for Pogi so let's hope and see what happens
🤘🏻🏴
@@kennykaniff I agree - I don’t think some people appreciate how significant JV injuries have been and how disrupted his preparation will have been as a result. I think he is 50/50 at best.
Agree Tour competition looks weak, and UAE may be sus - but it took an absolutely full strength TJV with two GC contenders and a future GV winner to hurt him.
Welcome back Julian Alaphilippe! You have done good. So glad!
Thanks for all the research!
Cracking preview chaps. Bring it on!
14:05 - in 1978, a Milanese tram conductor famously went on prime time TV and argued that to curb pollution in the pianura padana (the Po river flatlands) all you needed to do was to flatten out the Turchino (yes that Turchino) to facilitate ventilation on the plains. It’s all on CZcams
Not everyone speaks Italiano. Can you provide a link, I'd love to see it.
This is exciting!
Dan and Si seem to have choreographed their hand & arm movements. Or is there something to that father/son rumor?
These videos are great especially for us new cycling viewer.
Finally the Grand Tours are here!!! I’m so excited
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!! 🎶🎵🚵♂️
can't wait for it to start
Good Job, Enve. Hookless only design payed of! Stage 2 of the Giro, front wheel puncture for Tadej Pogačar in a critical moment of the race. I‘ve never meant a tire comes so easily off the rim as it happened.
Dan is bossing the various "c" sounds.. Grande!
On the "Other-Than-Pogacar" wagering, I'll go for Bora's Florian Lipowitz
_He's On-Form and itching to surprise!_
That was a burn on Gaviria. 🔥
I liked it when you went to do this at an Italian restaurant, that was a fun touch for the previews.
We'll lobby for that to happen next year, the crew would enjoy it!
THANKS LADS!!!
This Giro has got some serious climbing going on innit!!! Pogi is going to have to take time out of everyone in first week and then TRY to ease up the last half. Even tho its a limited field at Giro and we still dont know if we will see Vingegaard at TDF this is a pretty savage route so Pogi needs to TRY to ease up second half
🤘🏻🏴
I called dibs on Tadej first Dan
Last year I was able to enjoy all the racing live on GCN+. This year I can barely watch anything live except from the races that are broadcasting on national television. Sad 😢
be happy that you can get ANYTHING at all ! That's more than many people can, thanks to GCn's owners
like watching a documentary in Netflix. well organized and with top quality comentators :)
When Contador announced he would do the Giro-TDF double, I seem to recall a few of the teams (Astana being one) really made it a hard race for him and by the time the Tour came around he wasn't at his best as a result. Maybe that's the way forward for this Giro to constantly put pressure on Pogacar.
nice summary
Looking forward for the competition, we are ready to push pedals next to riders, we are ready for the next adventure out there cycling together, have fun guys, you are not alone ❤🎉❤
Which stage are you most looking forward to?
My pick for an outsider is Jan Hirt. He's always very good in the tough steep hills and if he's the team leader, I think he might have a decent chance for maybe a top 5 finish.
How you didn't include Groupama's Laurence Pithie as a stage winner and possible GC contender is beyond me
I think that was in reference to ITT
🤘🏻🏴
32:15 he is mentioned as provisional in the start list and a big possibility for stage wins and maybe more
Most vertical meters of any Grand tour stage since 2009 is around 5700m? What about Giro 2011 stage 15? Giro 2012 stage 20? Giro 2016 stage 14?
No more coverage for the race highlights????
What do you think about Luke Plapp? I just listened to a broadcast of him today and to me it sounds like he is trying to do a GC in the beginning and then see how far he comes.
I see Si still has an aversion to pink T-shirts 😂
😂😂
He'll never make that mistake again...
Dan
So this year with no GCN+ around, what choices do we have to watch the grand tours live? Can anybody recommend some?
Hi, thanks for the comment. Lloydy explained in the video at 21:33 hope it helps? Cheers!
@@gcnracing it helps a lot! Thanks! I hadn’t got that far in the video yet 😁
INEOS Grenadiers!!!!!!
I've been a fan of SKY/INEOS since the day I met Wiggo in 2012 and would have been a fan regardless of meeting him but G is really getting on. I do think we'll see him get a podium spot tho for sure. Would love to see him win it tho
🤘🏻🏴
FloBikes has it in Canada
INEOS Grenadiers!!!!!!!!!!!
Why was the 2017 giro called the 100 year anniversary and 2024 is the 107th edition of the giro if it started in 1909??
likely ww1 and 2 delayed matters for a few years
If we don't have an earthquake, or rain of fire, or a disarter of epic proportions, Pogacar will win, easely in my opinion. When he takes the maglia rosa, nobody will take it back. And I'm considering this after stage 2. After that, it'll be more time and time for the rest of the best.
Where can people from India watch it.... please help with this we used to look forward to this when GCN + was there
Maybe we should look at TP as being an hype. He is just dying for a chance to choke.
If Pog doesn't win, going to look very awkward!
He's certainly a strong favourite! Who are you backing as an outsider?
An open race could be really exciting!
If Pog doesn't win, something very interesting would have happened. Win for the viewers.
If Pog does not win means he has either crashed/sick/abandoned. That would be disappointing!
I hope he dont....
If G can manage to stay on his bike then it’ll be another 2nd place for him
Hopefully the other teams conserve their energy and try to make Tadej ride on the front, otherwise it's going to be a little boring
Now you've set it up saying no predictions for Pogacar and therefore predicting who will come second the Commentator's Curse will strike. You're so certain that it's a foredrawn conclusion that Pogacar will break sometime in the last week.
Uncharacteristically professional presentation, including making a good effort with Italian pronunciation!
every GT race is for 2nd this year :(
Tshirts are stylish and plenty of choices, sadly WAY overpriced! I bet if GCN had a BOGO sale on Tshirts, you would sell alot more. Just the thought of a starving cyclist, haha! Enjoyed the preview, thanks!
Glad to hear you like them - we'll pass on your feedback about the pricing to our shop team 👍
Good luck for Pogacar recovering after this lmao. His team has no brain approving to race this before TdF.
Dan is absolutely tweaking. The Giro was by far the most exciting race of the ‘big 3’ last year. With the GC decided on the last time trial
Well. At least he wasn't twerking.
Please don't encourage him to dance again 🕺
They were all SO GOOD last year. The Giro was the one that took the longest to be decided but was really boring compared to the other two before the final time trial in my opinion. The Tour was probably my favourite because of the countless duels for the stage win on mountaintop finishes between Pogacar and Vingeggard.
My man don't think you watched stage 19. It was bloody horendous. As well as every other one😂 except for Bondone and Lussari
wdym they were all so good😂@@benthewheel30
Go O'Connor... go Aussies...
44000 m is just 44 km. That seems awfully less amount climbing for a grand tour.
Yep, it's quite light on climbing this edition!
Tadej’s not doping
Is MVDP going to be there?
Yes!
Like the comment if you think Pogacar will win the Giro Tour double
Only drug tests can save us😮
Underwhelming gc line up as usual for the Giro
This should have been 30 seconds long: "Pogacar will win because his only competition is a 38 year old with the bike handling skills of a lettuce, and the UCI's drug testing process"
Bike handling skills of a lettuce 😂
Seems to me that nature works in mysterious ways.
Having said that the Giro is often a crap race when it really should not be.
Some lettuce have had greater staying power that Prime Ministers... So Thomas is going to compete really well is what you're saying? 🤷♂️
@@gcnracing "Yes, Prime Minister"
I was glad roglic won when it happened but after his TDF attitude was so dissappointed for GT. Dont follow roglic anymore.
My roided up guy beat your roided guy.
Too much talking, not enough cycling!
Used to be able to watch this. Thanks Warner Bros. NOT.
As your owners don't care about viewers in South East Asia, I guess I won't be watching any of the grand tours this year.
Will probably give it a miss this year as pog is riding....boring
Still plenty of opportunity for exciting racing for second place... just like Formula 1 😂
The only real chance of Tadej not winning is if the UCI catches him doping!! Because he definitely is!
I would like you to produce evidence. Or shut up.
