I absolute love that in the "small ball era" we have 2 of the greatest big men of all-time in Embiid and Jokic. They are scary because both have the traditional bigman style game, but also have other skills that are downright elite for any position.

im watching that hang dribble and thats all KD lol KD just does it from farther generally from 18 feet plus. imo it works bc even though these players are tall then have great handles, long wingspans, and timing. they can use the rip through move to draw foul, they can take you off the dribble if you play the jumper since theyre so long and their 2 steps from the rim, and if youplay the drive and fall for the hesi thats pretty much a free throw for an 80% ft shooter.

    • @hyperbomb02

@@RecapRico I see the hesi pull up as just a common skill a lot of guards have. It's especially dangerous for taller players because it's hard to get to their shots from a length point of view. To kind of counter the video, Jokic doesn't need that move, nor do I think it would be effective for him because his release is so damn high and his set is above his head anyway.

I feel like small ball is a misnomer its just getting your 5 most skilled players on the court at once. This leaves out lumbering bigs who have few skills. Jokic and Embiid are very skilled so they can stay on the court.

I've been watching basketball a long time and I saw Wilt in the '60s. Wilt was not a battering ram like Shaq and Embiid because offensive fouls were almost touch fouls then. So Wilt played more of a finesse game even though he was so powerful. Except, of course, if Wilt was a step from the bucket then he might over power defenders. Of course, there was no 3 point line so Wilt never developed his face up game because it wasn't advantageous to do so. Wilt rarely took a face up jumper from 15 feet and instead relied on his low post game with shots like his fadeaway jumper, hook, finger roll, and Dipper Dunk. Wilt was also a great passer from the low block and he was an excellent ball handler from his days with the Globetrotters. Wilt would no doubt have more of a face up game in this era. Great discussion guys, Embiid is a beast!

I think players today try to emulate each other more than in any other time. For me the five best players right now (Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, Lebron and KD) have all watched each other and made their own adjustments to each of their unique styles and thats why the talent feels so unreal right now. Depth at every position in a somewhat positionless league is the best its ever been. Feels like in any given playoffs any player can leap into the growing legend of basketball lore.
