  • The Clark Air Base annual chili cook-off was a creative opportunity to express how Americans and Filipinos enjoyed themselves in an atmosphere of genuine family fun, while displaying the richness of cultures.
American children and adults alike gained the special flavor of being involved in various Filipino cultural dances, as well as games and plenty of food. Filipinos joined the fun and enjoyed antics of old west frontier humor, entertainment and the classic, but GASTRONOMIC affects of a good “down home” old fashioned CHILI COMPETITION.
The event was held on the grounds of Clark's popular Bamboo Bowl carnival and public stadium grounds, renamed “Challenger Field’, following the ill-fated Shuttle disaster.
This 18-minute feature reveals a precious time in the lives of our past friends and families, who shared this unique common bond of experiences, while living in the Philippines. It not only expresses how members of an American military community enjoyed the wealth of experiences offered by a gracious host community; It expresses how members of all grades, whether military or civilian, savored times of weekend fun together, during a past tour of duty at a location no longer available for assignment.
Recently, a number of military and civilian organizations around the United States celebrated the centennial relationship and rich contributions of the Filipino toward the American way of life at home and abroad.
This feature might serve as a visual demonstration of that hundred-plus year bond between the two cultures and people.
    Stay Tuned!!!

Virgil, I don't know how or from where you found this footage, but it was immensely entertaining to me. I even saw myself , a freshly graduated 6th grader, in the video. Those were some happy times back then...and then came the volcano😪 Thank you so much for your efforts to publish this here.
