- A gas-fueled drag race for the ages: a Dodge Demon ($109,000 CAD base price when new, $84,995 USD) and a Shelby Super Snake Mustang (~$203,000 CAD as specced, ~$161,000 USD). Both have over 800 horsepower to the rear wheels and a supercharged V8 up front. But what happens when you line up these two American muscle monsters on an unprepped strip? @@Holmesson Mercedes abandoned Chrysler years ago. Other than the chassis of a few cars that Chrysler makes right now, there is nothing left from Mercedes. Hemi motors have always been nothing but Dodge.

What I love about the Dodge Challenger is that it still looks like a classic old school American Muscle car, even the newest Demon!
That is the point. Dodge is not trying to make stripped down sports cars or pony cars out of the Charger, Challenger and Durango. The Super Car Dodge made is the Viper 🐍

@@robdempley1633 they said what it was they said it's a known issue with the super snake where they remove a brace to fit the supercharger and the torque from the launch twists the chassis and it breaks Carroll Shelby would've put another brace in cause he made all his cars as perfect as he could

Thats probably why Ford said they wont make a GT500 convertible. It appears like twisting itself around the Driveshaft is not an aspired ability.
Funny because vmp performance has been making absolute monster mustangs and I know for a fact this body style can handle north of 1000hp. People twin turbo as well as root supercharge the new mustang gets and make rediculous drag times and street times. There was something really wrong with this car or shotty workmanship

And even if you manage to get it to that level, it weighs a bunch. Im not sure about the curb weight of the 2 but maybe it'll have a better chance if it was a regular hardtop.

Mad props to the Shelby Super Snake but Dodge hit a freaking hone run with the Demon. What an absolute marvel of a machine. Very reminiscent of the late 60s early 70s when they were unbeatable. Part of why I'm a diehard Mopar guy.

Huge difference from a car put together with big power after the factory and a factory built high hp vehicle... As much as I wanted the mustang to win, the reliability and consistency of the power just isnt there with an aftermarket system. The entire Demon is built to do what it does, from the chassis up
The comparison is suspect. The wrench showing up and the Shelby going limp every other race should not be happening. Something is wrong with that tune.
I had the exact same though. This is a tune issue, even with less torque the Shelly has more power and weighs less. even if it was going to get beat, it shouldn’t get walked like that.

@@VegasRT500 the zr1 is faster same price and much faster on track than both of them. And comes with a 7 speed manual. Funnily enough even with less power than both of them I think it's done a quicker quarter mile time in independent testing.

This just goes to show how crazy the Demon really is in a straight line and a lot of time people forget that that is EXACTLY what that car was built to do. I mean this is even without the skinny front tires and the race gas tune, so it is down 32 horsepower from where it could be and up in weight. Still yet outrunning a very premiumly priced Mustang that I am almost certain is lighter than the Demon. And this Demon is kitted out with features (Sunroof, all of the seats, etc) so it is even extra heavy. This is rather amazing in my opinion.
No one forgetting that this is what it was made to do. If anything that’s all it can do. And the Shelby in this vid needs some TLC before it can race anyone or anything.
Y'know, Dodge doesn't have a reputation for reliability, but if they were able to run a Demon 5000 times consecutively on the strip without a single issue, then that's how you know Dodge put extra special care into the Demon.

doing a burnout is a very challenger owner thing to do so the tire pressure part was the only thing not normal
actually if youre in anything above an rt most mopar owners will lower the pressures way down and if theyre at a stop light theres a good chance they'll do a burnout if they're gonna race

What I saw looked pretty bad ass. They're both modified cars. I'm a Ford guy, but I can acknowledge an honest beating. The 5.0 is at a mechanical disadvantage. It's always going to produce less torque when they're trying to keep the hp comparable.

Racer X has a 2020 Mustang GT, he put a Hellion twin turbo kit on it and it's making over 800hp on the dyno. This guy should sell that overpriced Shelby and boost a GT. He could build it with forged internals and it would still be cheaper then that SS.

The owner should take the Mustang to the dyno and then take it back to $helby and get his money back. There is no way the Mustang is making the advertised power.
I mean, for how much weight was added for the convertible... It's probably not too far off. Also, you're losing power on the car trying to twist itself. Albeit, probably only a small amount, but it'd still exists.
@@Ayane13b If the Shelby is making the power it claims than it should beat the Demon 10/10 times. It has a similar fast transmissions except a much better power to weight ratio.

There's literally no chance it weighs less than the demon. It'd be at LEAST a couple hundred pounds heavier, but it obviously needs more bracing to make the car not commit suicide lol.
Technically this is nothing more than a modded mustang GT convertible. I would never buy this over a real Shelby

Official quarter mile time from Dodge on the Demon: 9.65 seconds. Real life drag race on Carwow 11.3 seconds. It's impossible to launch sensibly. To achieve the Dodge claimed time you'd probably have to have ideal circumstances like a sticky drag strip, slick tyres, rocket fuel, tailwind and who knows what else

The mustang was the one back in 2005 to bring back classic designs and with it succes made other brands like dodge to bring back the challenger and charger. Overall the mustang pave the way to bring back muscle cars to its former glory. All I got to say is you can hate mustangs all you want if that's your opinion but if you laugh at this joke it's just shows that your not a true car guy that love cars no matter what brand.

Same! I’d love to see the GT or GT PP1 vs a scat pack vs an SS. Basically go for the attainable and dailiable versions of each muscle car (cause we know the 1LE package on an SS will clap everything but it also is not something you want on a daily)
