I listen to Echoes more often than any other tune. Since 1973 I have probably listened to it over 10,000 times, and I play it at work at least once a day. The Pompei version is my favorite. The BBC 1971 is second. Gilmour at Gdansk is third. The version here is in the top 10 at the very least. I've heard dozens of different bootleg versions and some of them would probably be superb if they weren't audience-quality tapes.
+UiUnification You know what.... My old brain is fried. There is a pink Floyd bbc 1970 and also a 1971 concert. Echoes is on the 1971 concert. The 1970 concert features Atom Heart Mother. Sorry for the confusion.
I was at CNE stadium in 1987 and this was the opening. Toronto was the last stop of the tour and they sounded amazing. I was floored by the sound system. I will never forget Echoes live outdoors turned up to 11 in downtown Toronto.
Great upload! What a historic piece of music. David and Richard are like one person always so true to each other. I know losing Rick had to be so hard on him. I know I miss him. RIP Rick Wright thanks for the memories..Pink Floyd lives forever!
It’s unique!! Thanks for the upload! If I had to choose though, I’d pick early Floyd for this song. Gilmour with his simple set up. Just a fuzz face, volume pedal and delay. That simplicity made it huge in my opinion
What a pity. Of course band had reasons for not filming entire rehearsal. Maybe they knew that their performance won't be great. Perfectionists want only the best to show to public. But they don't realize that some historic events should exist even in mediocre quality :) So people like us can enjoy it. I have this performance on DVD too, downloaded it from some torrent tracker.
Thanks, It is first time see this live version , I have listen to this song more than Million times . It is a masterpiece. I have been in " Momentary Laps " tur 1988 but didn't play this song
Vemos aki o unico destinto inimitavel estilo e sincronismo da bateria do Nick !!! Esse E o outro unico registro vivo que se tem noticia alem do original em Pompei !!! Raridade !!! Obrigado Nick !!! ...e a vc que fez essa Gravacao !!!
This is the only other than Pompei Echoes known live recordings ... where we see Nick's unique unmatched style and drums sincronism !!! What a Gift ... OBRIGADO !!! ...For this recording Thank you so Much !!!
I saw this tour in mid-1988, after they'd switched the opener to "Shine On;" if they'd opened with "Echoes" I might've dropped dead of pleasure right then and there.
band members weren't satisfied with their performance during A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour so they decided to drop Echoes after eleven times en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echoes_%28Pink_Floyd_song%29#Live_performances
Sorry--there is no complete version..I have a copy right off the beta-C on Super VHS copied to DVD...I should upload it.but the band wasnt thrilled this got out even cut up. I asked why not film the whole rehearsal and I was told "they dont want the entire show filmed" so it is what it is...
BY the way--I know the original director of this video rehearsal which ran 55 minutes, they ran a beta-cam one hour videotape and just randomly CUT songs, nothing was filmed in its entirety unfortuantely...this is the clostest one to being complete..and the one I would have shot complete.
What a shame that this song was neither completely recorded off the board feed not performed at any Delicate Sound Of Thunder tapings. I love this version the best because, with Rick singing David's melody and David singing Rick's harmony, I can actually tell their voices apart a) to identify who's singing which part and b) what notes, more or less, each is singing. Most fans will tell me that this version is, musically, the poorest performance recorded, but in all versions I'm told are "better", it's impossible for me to tell one voice apart from the other.
Joshuah128 good obeservationabout their voices! This song was performed on first shows of the tour in 1987 and it was fully recorded by fans (no soundboard as far as i know). Unfortunately only bootlegs exist but some of them in good quality.
I blame it on the slick production - eqs, levels and choice of each instrument, now more digital than analog, good for Momentary songs but just don't favor the colors of this song....Some parts are amazing though. Just not many.. They did alot better on the On an Island tour, which had a purer sound, unlike this 80's sound incarnation.
Like most Gilmie fanboys you don't realize that you are commenting on a song released in 1971, of which Roger was one of the songwriters. You don't listen just to the songs off AMLOR, Division Bell and the Endless River, do you? Without Roger, there would be no Echoes. There would be no Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals or The Wall at all. So what Gilmour fanboys are really fans of is Gilmour's Pink Fraud covering Roger's songs without him.
@@RaisedkaineThe only weakness of the shows up to 1981 was Gilmour, who was sabotaging by caring more for huffing coke and chainsmoking than actually performing well. You can tell this by listening to the 1977 shows, where his voice was constantly shot, Roger had to back him up on the highs and they even had to play Dogs in lower key for Gilmour to be able to sing it. If Gilmour had done his part, they would have been excellent. But despite Gilmour's sabotage, I still can't get why anyone could claim that Gilmour's fake Floyd shows were somehow superior to the real thing. The 1987-1994 shows were a saddening bore. Gilmour is the most boring showman imaginable, looking like he wants to disappear. Guy Pratt is a terrible singer and he couldn't even get Roger's rather simple basslines right. I suspect that the reason they used all that laser light and that they placed the female backing singers on top of the stage and told them to do the most ridiculous postures imaginable (they just make me cringe) was that Gilmour was afraid of people looking at him. Several songs (including everything off The Wall that they tried to play) were completely butchered on those tours. When I hear their terrible rendition of Comfortably Numb, I wonder what the heck they were on. And there is that ridiculous hyperactive extra percussionist (why couldn't Gilmour just let Nick do his job?) who is outright painful to watch. Equally embarrassing is that Hells Angels-esque saxophonist who looks like he tries to have sex with his sax. Ouch it is outright painful to watch! And that is before I have even mentioned the "new" songs they played. A Momentary Lapse of Dogshit and The Lullaby Bell are outright terrible albums with only a couple of ok tracks each, and the rest just terrible filler tracks of a kind that were absent on their previous records. I want to sleep when I hear those tracks, no matter if i am listening to studio or live versions. And that is before I have even mentioned Polly, who deserves an award for the worst lyrics in rock music. The Endless River was an endless boredom from start to finish, it was an insult to the fans that Gilmour cynically chose to release it as a "Pink Floyd album" rather than the totally unnecessary outtake collection it is, but when you think it couldn't get any worse and are almost done listening through it, you get to the last track with the worst lyrics I have ever heard in any song ever. It kind of makes me understand why Gilmour insisted on no lyrics for the rest of the album. And for the record, I hardly ever listen to the fake Floyd albums, either live or studio. Recently, I watched the Pulse DVD for the first time for god knows how many years, and it did not exactly make me long for repeating the experience. On the other hand, I watch Roger's In the Flesh DVD at least once or twice a month. It's an a lot more enjoyful experience than watching Gilmour make his weird grimaces while performing lullabies, while Guy Pratt runs around stage with his weird bass butchering Roger's songs with his terribly wrong singing and bass playing, and that coke-filled percussionist jumping up and down at least three times for every time he actually manages to hit a drum, and the backing singers doing their best to make sure that Gilmour escapes from view etc. It doesn't help that Pulse looks like a worn VHS even on Blu-ray either - it is somehow amazing that not even the remaster could even fix the colour bleeding, but I guess Gilmour had to save the money that actually cleaning up the footage would demand so he could buy another yacht for Polly. And that is before i have even mentioned anything about Gilmour's personality and politics, such as his extreme arrogance, intense and obsessive hating on Roger all the time, and being one of very few musicians to openly support the genocide in Gaza (probably just out of his intense hatred of Roger, who has had a strong interest in that case for years). It certainly does not help knowing how much of an asshole Gilmour is either.

I have some bootlegs with it too. "Echoes" is one of my favourite songs, it's shame that they stopped to perform it during that tour.
Yes of course it is on Meddle..it takes up almost one half of a vinyl album.
Yes, sometimes t think the same. You're welcome!

+Joshuah128 Nice! but i think was better the original vocal setup ;)
one of the BBC sessions 1971 live recordings has the same thing, where you can hear both of their vocals, that's my personal favourite version
But can you tell them apart? Hearing them both is easy; being able to tell them apart, in most cases, is downright impossible.
The second drummer, who at the time was Gary Wallis, doesn't fit well. You can clearly hear he' s not in sync with Nick
What would we do without them? Thankyou for the post....
The stage on this tour was really dark.
Eccezionale

Thank's for your comment, I checked out what you said and I loved that version! Very tempted to buy the full DVD of On an Island tour
Miguel Baptista As a guitarist for 20 years, I definitely agree. Anologue is the proper way
This song with today's Lo-fi beats would work superb
I know this is an unpopular opinion but post roger waters Pink Floyd is my favorite version of this band.
Not alone
As far as live performances go, this should probably be a popular opinion.
