    I have never had an issue with blood pressure and I am in my 60's now. Neither of my parents had issues with blood pressure. Imagine my shock when I go for a routine exam and was told my blood pressure was elevated! I will admit that my life situation right now is extremely stressful and there is little that I can do to change that. My job is highly stressful, my home life is stressful, we are in the middle of a pandemic, and it seems there is no escape. I don't if all this added stress has caused my blood pressure to be elevated or not but if so the news about my blood pressure has added yet another stressful issue for me to worry about. I exercise daily, could eat better, practice Yoga, and I'm even losing some weight again so I was blindsided by my bp numbers. Why is it so hard to live?????

      Or do you want tips on how to avoid stress altogether, in the future?
      1. Take a #deepbreath

      Make an effort to start taking slow, deep breaths as stress relievers. "Breathing can change how we feel because emotions and breathing are closely connected," says Emma Seppala, PhD, and a Stanford University psychologist who's done research on yogic breathing. "A revealing research study showed that different emotional states are associated with distinct respiration patterns."

      2. Check thoughts
      When thoughts start to spin out of control during a stressful moment, stop and reframe your thinking. "By your choice of perspective, you direct how your body will respond-in fight or flight, or in creative choices and solution-based responses," says Lauren E. Miller, stress relief and personal excellence expert.

      3. Say a mantra

      "This too shall pass". Repeating a mantra is actually a type of meditation that can make you more resilient to stress, according to research published in the European Journal of Integrative Medicine. You can place reminders of your mantras near the places you tend to get stressed, like your workspace, post them on my social media, and even print them out to put on my refrigerator or desk.

      4. Correct posture

      Taking a few seconds when feel stressed to check posture and sit up straight (like your mother told you) can help feel better. "Studies show that poor posture is related to anxiety, depression, helplessness, and irritability, so keeping chin up and shoulders back will help," Serani says. Happy and confident people naturally tend to stand a bit taller.

      5. Get some air

      Turns out, science says there is something to needing "fresh air" - even opening a window can help get more oxygen to your brain, soothing stress.

      6. Unclench muscles
      Taking a moment to recognize this and actively relaxing each part of body can help. According to Whitaker, common stress-storing places are the jaw, neck, shoulders, back, and stomach.

    I don't know if you're correct about alcohol consumption .. I saw a person passed out from drinking alcohol who had a 0/0 blood pressure reading.

      Yes, alcohol can lower blood pressure. But it can also increase. We do not recommend alcohol abuse for either hypertensive or hypotensive patients.
      The thing is that alcohol affects the blood vessels. At first, the blood vessels are dilated by alcohol. This can cause a drop in blood pressure in some people. But it was also noticed that people who often drink alcohol had higher blood pressure than those who did not.
      We just recommend not to abuse and listen to your feelings.

    The doctor told my brother that his blood pressure increases due to his weight which also causes disruption in his breathing while he sleeps which further raises his blood pressure. So he is now on a diet and he is following some exercises that he found on Healsonate which seems to be very effective.

      It is urgent to call an ambulance if the pressure is above 180/120.
      If theblood pressure is not critically high (for example, 140/100), you can follow the advice to lower it: drink mint tea, and so on.
