    ➡️1. Take the Right Medications
The most effective way to get rid of mucus and phlegm is to take the medications that are prescribed directly by your doctor. This is especially true for those who have underlying respiratory conditions, such as asthma, COPD, or bronchiectasis.
➡️ 2. Drink Plenty of Fluids
You probably grew up hearing your parents tell you to drink plenty of water every time you were sick or had a cold. It may sound cliche, but they were 100% correct because it actually does help improve the functionality of pretty much all the major systems of the body.
➡️ 3. Take a Hot Bath or Shower
In this case, the main benefit of taking a hot bath or shower is to inhale the steam that is produced by the warm water. Steam acts as a natural way to help break up and get rid of mucus and phlegm. Gently breathe in and out as the aerosol particles enter your airways and lungs.
➡️ 4. Practice the Deep Coughing Technique
Deep coughing is an effective technique that can be used to get rid of phlegm and mucus. As opposed to a hacking cough that basically only clears the throat, deep coughing is more effective for clearing the lungs. Begin by taking a deep breath in and hold it for 2-3 seconds.
➡️ 5. Try the Huff Coughing Technique
Huff coughing is a forced expiration technique that is an alternative to deep coughing and is also useful in getting rid of mucus and phlegm. All you have to do is take a breath that is slightly deeper than your normal tidal volume breath. Use your diaphragm and the muscles in your stomach to make a series of three rapid exhalations with an open airway.
    ➡️ 6. Breathe Humidified Air
In general, breathing dry air can irritate the nose and throat and make it difficult to remove mucus and phlegm. You can use a cool-mist humidifier to alleviate dryness and add humidity to the air that you're breathing. By breathing in the humidified air, this helps loosen up secretions which make them easier to be removed by coughing.
    ➡️ 7. Use Vapor Rubs
Vapor rubs aren’t meant to cure the problem but they can provide short-term relief. They contain ingredients such as menthol and eucalyptus oil that help to soothe chest and breathing congestion. You can apply the rub directly to your throat or chest in order to relieve the stuffy feeling caused by excess mucus and phlegm.
➡️ 8. Keep Your Allergies Under Control
Not only can seasonal allergies cause a runny nose, itchy throat, and watery eyes, they can also cause excessive amounts of mucus and phlegm to build up as well. So keeping your allergies in check is a no-brainer.
➡️ 9. Eat Foods That Are Good for the Respiratory System
Anecdotal studies have shown that certain foods and drinks can be effective in getting rid of mucus and phlegm. Take spicy foods, for example. Spices such as chili and cayenne pepper contain substances that help clear up the sinuses.
➡️ 10. Use an Airway Clearance Device
It can be challenging to eliminate excess phlegm and mucus from the lungs in conditions such as COPD, bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis. This is when an airway clearance device may come in handy. The most common types of these devices are handheld and come with a mouthpiece.

I actually use the hot tea cold water method. What I do is make a cup of hot tea and a glass of cold water. This works of the premise of expansion and contraction. I first drink the hot liquid to loosen up the phlegm, I cough a couple times then I quickly drink the cold water and cough again. I notice that after repeating this several times I start to remove large masses of phlegm. I continue this until it’s easier to breath. I have chronic bronchitis and this tends to work for me. Plus, like he said, I try to drink lots of water. I hope this helps.

I have had a big problem with this thing, for years, and found something that helped. I realized I was a mouth breather That is, I wasn't using my nose to breathe, I was doing almost all my breathing through my mouth. Breathing through the nose is natural, and will cause the sinuses to drain naturally. Breathing through the mouth effectively short-circuits the natural respiratory process of sinus draining and the result is that mucus backs up in the throat.
If you have this annoying mucus in the throat problem, try shutting your lips together and forcing yourself to breathe steadily and slowly through your nose 25x You may find what I found: First, that you were a mouth breather without being aware of it. Second, with even a short time of practicing just breathing through your nose, you'll feel your sinuses naturally clearing themselves When a build-up of mucus occurs you can simply swallow what's there without having to strain to clear your throat. In any case, the problem will be far less than it was.
Final note: I've been to the doctors about the problem (twice) and have tried all kinds of remedies for a problem that was as chronic as most people in this form. I'm not claiming to be an expert or to have a solution for everyone, but I"m just saying what worked for me. In any case, I'm not one of these people who typically haunt forums like this who have no personal experience with the specific health problem but who give out free advice.

Do you always breath through your nose now? I recently found out I wasn't mouth breather too, and I purchased a chin strap that goes around my head to keep my mouth closed. I decided to try and do it myself instead of asking my dr. I have noticed a significant difference in my breathing. I haven't used the strap in a couple days, and here I am.

I find that having your back arched and your head tilted back really helps with the deep cough. I was doing these intuitively when I was sick recently, and one time I coughed into my shirt and I coughed up this big trail of mucus that pretty much made a trail down the inside of the shirt. I had to go to the bathroom to wash the inside of the shirt and then change shirts. Very helpful to be able to engage the diaphragm so effectively.

I've just tried your suggestion of leaning backwards (I did it whilst sitting down) and tilting my head backwards, and yes it really does help with the deep cough technique mentioned in the video, as the diaphragm automatically forces the air back out of the mouth from that position. Thanks for sharing!

Concerning the deep-coughing and huff techniques, taking advantage of gravity also aids in expulsion of phlegm and mucous. Using either a bed or floor (the former is obviously more comfortable), assume the _kowtow_ position whilst pointing your butt as high as you can. Hold this position for a minute or two, then deep-cough/huff as needed.

  • @thatgirlwhousedtohavereall5549

I do a deep breathing exercise every morning, & it wakes me up better than coffee.
Bend over, let your arms dangle, then as you rise up take in a deep breath (count of 4) & do your arms as if you’re diving into water. Hold that breath about 4 seconds, and blow out as you lower your arms (count of 4).
Repeat 4 times or whatever feels good, but do it slowly. You don’t want to make yourself dizzy 🥴
I also do this in the middle of the day if I start feeling like I want a nap, and it works every time.
Let me know if it works for you 👍

Approx 6 years ago I thought I might have had asthma,or worse. I constantly coughed, wheezing and couldn't breathe fully in to full lung capacity as I would cough away. Felt tired all of the time. Had brain fog and when I walked any fair distance my feet/toes hurt (not sure if this was related) anyway, By chance I bought nascent iodine (My brother had recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer)and I had read that iodine can help flush lymph nodes...so I researched nascent iodine and bought 2 bottles. One for me one for my brother. Anyway, I'm very skeptical by nature, never felt any benefits from vitamin tablets etc. But I gave it a go. My breathing improved dramatically within 2 days...I could breathe unimpeded, fully in which just felt fantastic. Felt like a light bulb switched on in my brain . Brain fog gone, felt sharp. My mother has just been diagnosed with emphysema so I'm going to try her on it too. Also as I can now breathe in fully I do the Wim Hoff breathing technique which again is a daily thing I won't ever forget to do. Literally changed my life. I was resigned to the fact that I was going to live in a struggle but there are things you can do that will change everything. I hope even if just one person tries it and gets the same results as with me I will be happy. All the best to you all.
