Too much sleep is bad for you apparently. 8hrs is the max.
That makes sense ...
24 hours of sleep= no injury

Not about that, there is such a thing as too much sleep too. Muscle atrophy, not to mention just feeling groggy when you actually do wake up.

I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. czcams.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!
This is certainly true for me. In graduate school, one semester, I did an experiment on myself (I was a science major) to determine the optimal amount of sleep that I needed. I scheduled all my classes to start past noon to allow me to sleep in as late as I needed to without needing an alarm clock to wake up. It turned out to be consistently within a minute of 9 hours. And I felt fantastic! It was literally almost like I was on a high! I felt wonderful, no exaggeration. I was wide awake and alert and energetic all day. I was sharp and quick minded. And the most amazing thing was my mood. I was so happy! I was like this all semester when I got my 9 hours. Now, decades later, I don't often get that much a night, but when I do, I still feel that amazing feeling. I recently turned 50 and have decided to make the changes necessary to ensure that I get my 9 hours a night again.
Sounds amazing.. haha. did you wake up after those 9 hours and get up straight away or was some of that time dozing in and out of sleep??
@@judaspriestrock No, that 9 hours did not include laying there awake at all. I literally woke up within a minute or two of 9 hours. I would become conscious and immediately look at the clock and do the calculation and write it down. It was wild how consistently my body responded to being allowed that sleep. I slept like a baby throughout the night, woke up as if I'd had an alarm set for 9 hours and I woke up feeling great and got straight out of bed. Normally, I get like my usual 6-7.5 and I hit the snooze button as many times as I can. Only on weekends do I get my 9 hours. I have read that your body CAN make up sleep though so if you can, try to sleep in on weekends or go to bed early to catch up on your lost sleep.
I did this too during a few days break from work and I slept for 9 hours, I recently slept for nine hours uninterrupted and woke up and started doing tasks is been putting off for months.

How do we start a movement for naps during work in the corporate world?
Google has sleeping pods.
Had watched a netflix documentary with roger Moore and jobs with great benefits in other countries such as Italy where some companies promote naps during the day, sex with your partner break, and watching it made me want to cry like a lil biatch!
Marty Martinez sex with your break partner??? Wow which company?
we could start by creating a website (im sure one exists already) that is made for employees to post in depth reviews about salary, perks, and job satisfaction at a company. Then salary factor alone will have the companies scrambling because they hate it when employees discuss salary with each other. This culture of discussing salary being inappropriate was manufactured. Then we leave absolute shit reviews for companies that overwork us even slightly. Then we (through social media) raise awareness about the benefits of sleep. The benefits which are mentioned in this video as well as the fact that lack of sleep is the best indicator we have towards whether or not a person will get mental illness as they age (alzheimer's/dementia stuff like that). Surely some companies will adopt the ideas when the movement gains enough traction, especially when they realize that productivity actually goes up. Then of course we the employees give credit where credit is due, so we leave raving reviews for these companies so they begin having great reputations. As long as this is done publicly, other companies will slowly begin to follow suit. And if they don't, we spend a bunch of time roasting each other on social media, lets turn that heat towards them instead. We gotta start helping each other to create better lives instead of compete because the companies always win that way.

Pretty sure he slept for more than 12hrs when he was a baby
This is so true. I spent 3 weeks at a training camp with the Russia wrestling team before the Europeans and we would be sleeping over 12 hours a day including naps between training just so we can recover for the next training session.
I never felt as strong as I did after leaving that training camp.
So if you only count awake time, he's 19 - that explains his longevity in the sport.
Well, there’s just one msg I got from this video: “If you love your sleep, become a pro athlete. That’s the only way your parents will let you sleep for that long”😂
I've read Michael Phelps would sleep long hours like that, too.
He said that while training for the Olympics, all he did was eat, swim, and sleep.
Hmm sounds good
I think this depends on the athlete tbh. Michael Jordan was notorious for not getting much sleep yet he dominated the sport anyways and was rarely injured. He was just too intense and driven to sleep.
This is true but Jordan also retired at 33 if you don't count his stint with the Wizards (I don't because he was not in peak contention form by that time). Kobe was notorious also for not getting much sleep but he was only peak form until about 32 or 33 or so. Federer is 37 and was on the verge of winning Wimbledon. He is still a legitimate contender for majors and is a clear top 3 player on the tour at this point. He still looks sharp so who knows how many more years he can play. So the sleep or not may not affect your peak but I think it does affect your longevity and how long you can stay in contention form.
Rama Sivamani Lebron is getting pretty old too, but he’s kicking booty! Because he sleeps 🛏
@@steff2738 yeah your right it was 35 when he won his last championship and retired. That's still younger than Federer. The sports are also different so it's not really a great comparison but if you look at players that have had long careers or played professionally into their 40s they would be paying more attention to rest, sleep, and recovery especially as they get older. Federer might play until he's 45 (might be a bit of stretch but I feel he's going to hit 40 minimum) and still be a potential contender for majors.
I am definitely a world class sleep athlete.
I am showing this to my family. Now they will know I am destined for greatness.. And they won't question me anymore.. 😜😜🤣🤣

Same!!
Lol but it's not like you sleep for half a day everyday
I agree 100% with what he said. Sleep is amazing. I remember that when i was an avid gym goer, i would come back from school at 5pm, have a nap of 1 hour and that alone gave me more power than the pre workout itself.
When you put sleep vs coffee, taurine, and any other pre workout stuff, sleep will consistently make you better. Creatine works better after sleep, nitrogen oxide helps your veins expand more... muscle have a way higher focus after sleep or power naps.
So true. I’m a student athlete and I’ve had a injury when I was sleeping 4-5 hours everyday and still training hard. It came to me as a shock because something like sleep is something we often neglect.
Not to forget the influence sleep has on the brain and on learning (that is also learning movements and tactics and patterns).

I used to sleep only 6-7 hrs during my highschool cause I had to wake up at 5 for school
I didn't go early to school for sleep

Thank you. I was literally feeling guilty about the serious naps I take, but tend to push myself pretty hard and my body just seemed to NEED them for recovery.
This just goes to show how essential sleep is! Which is why I’ve begun sleeping 24 hours per day... 😴
Excellent 😛
As a cyclist who is currently training for a multi-day charity cycle, I definitely notice that the longer/harder I train, the more rest and sleep I need. It's so nice to have it confirmed by a neuroscientist that athletes NEED more sleep for recovery. I used to schedule "recovery days" in my training plan, but from now on I'll try sleeping more the night before AND the night after the long cycles, and see if I still need those recovery days, or if longer sleep will just obliterate them from my calendar.
Brief and in depth. Thank you.
Federer out there living (sleeping) the dream. I wish I had the chance
Every one is different. Previously I usually had 5 or 6 hours of sleep. And i suffered from serious health issues like frequent flu and chills and depression. Now Iam having total 9 hours of sleep. I cant remember the last time i woke up refreshed. When i was younger I deffinitely did!
Even when i get a good night sleep i still feel tired after a while

I had heard Federer used to have these ''naps'' before matches as a way of powernapping...
only thing is, I wouldn't be able to accually sleep so many hours, only if I were really tired. so maybe it is more like a resting thing
no it is not about resting, the difference between resting and napping is day and night. If you sport a lot you consume more energy and you have an easier time falling asleep beside the adrenaline that is, but one can do a work out that's tiresome without producing too much adrenaline and then it is quite easy to fall asleep and have naps. Another thing is called your biorhythm once your body is used to certain sleeping patterns it will prepare itself in advance to sleep.
because you probably don't play competition at high level
@@___Robin___ yes true

So nice to have all that time in the morning and not be half asleep ha
I’ve been advocating and experimenting this formula for years.
I've been on a 4 hour sleep routine for almost 2 years now. It's made me an angrier person to deal with, minor things set me off. It's made my reaction speed decrease. It's made my brain not keep up with processing what I see, to what I physically do (known as the OODA loop). Its very profound the past 6 months. Since I've been doing 2-3hours a day perfecting my AIM in Kovaak's aim trainer. Days I get that 4 hours or less, I perform score wise for tracking objects 15-30% less on a whole that day. Backed by statistic data from the trainer. Let alone what I physically see , to what I can't keep up with. But I have already proven to keep up with it, for its part of my daily routine. Then its back to normal if I feel rested.
I'm finding it hard to break this sleep routine. Been trying for 2months now. But its nice seeing a video like this, that directly correlates to my issue with reaction-time and sleep. Then I always see my biggest jump in skill when I hit my ceiling for a week, then get in a 10-16hour sleep session, which I sometimes do without knowing on my days off. I just wake up and realize damn I slept for a long time. That saying "you still mentally practice in sleep" or whatever, is very true to me.
dude ru doing ok now? are you forced into this schedule from disorder?
What do you do?
What they are not talking about here is the quality of sleep and rest, depending on nutrition, stress and many other factors....
Also not the quality of rhythm. He probably knows more than me but getting up at the same time every day is just as important as sleeping enough.

So his main point and argument is based of athletes which I understand because athletes need that extra energy but average people however should stick to their 7hrs a day sleep. No point in sleeping 12hrs if you're at a desk all day
In his book he speaks about the creative and intellectual loss a deskworker get from a lack of sleep as well. :)
I'm no athlete but I powerlift 5 days a week at the gym, 1.5 hours each session. 10 hr sleep days are the norm for me to recover. Average person sleep 7 hours are mostly not active and have desk jobs. Far from a healthy lifestyle.
Everyone has a different body and differeny sleeping routine. I think 10hr+ sleep is little too much for me. But for some people it wud be good.
What i wanna know is what kind of medicine they use to help them secure those good sleep hours, when they travel around the world for tournaments
Cbd oil.
Are you talking about you think you may struggle to sleep if you travelled that frequently? I think the athletes get used to a set of sleep hours and the constant exercise makes them fall asleep pretty easily effortlessly and naturally
Cristiano Ronaldo's sleep coach once said that they always uses same kind of mattress and try to make make his room as familiar as possible.

If I had a good work out, either be with my girlfriend or in the gym, I want to take a nap as well. I don't think he's telling ground breaking stuff here. Sleep is recovery, sleep is rest. The only problem we normal people have is too little time in a day and night besides work. Pro athletes work out and train a lot, no wonder they need more sleep and wise to take naps after training and nutrition. At least they don't also have to sit at a desk for another 8 hours a day too.
I am only a uni student but my dissertation was on sleep and its effects on performance... the consensus is that sleep has very limited effects on physiological performance but more on psychological such as coordination, reactions etc. This is what I found from numerous research studies so have no clue how this guy is saying this.
