Cobwebs & Bristles Thanks!!
Thank you so much for this video! I was just about to apply a coat of paint to my floors in my art room when I decided to check out some wood graining videos. I happened across yours and my game plan changed. I like instant gratification when it comes to projects so I just went for it. Only took a couple of hours and it turned out absolutely amazing! Thank you again for the inspiration!
I know that's been two years since you post this video but I seen this video about a year ago and saved it to my playlist. I like your ideas so well I implemented this project onto my walls in my dining room area using leftover paint did I have bought to make over my house with so the planks match my whole house. I finished it up yesterday and it looks great! Thank you so very much for posting this video
Love this, great job!

Funky Butterfly Thank you for watching it! Love YOU back!
Amazing exactly what I was looking for I’m tired of these’s brown laminate floors and the other more grayish tone ones are out of my budget soooo...... yeah thanks for the diy floor idea helped out a lot and the step-by-step 🤍🤍
I’m so glad it’s what you’re looking for!
It’s beautiful! Carpet, it adheres well to carpet too. 🤣 Great video, thx. I hate my floors, also just moved in a year ago. Joanna Gaines🤣👏
Lolly Lolly Ha! Thanks for watching!
That is absolutely beautiful!! Can you please tell me the paints you used. I was kind of confused on that. :)
You are hilarious Joanna Gaines!! JK I love it!!
Thanks for watching LYnette!
These are absolutely stunning! Now I want to paint my orangutan orange hardwoods!
Bonnie Bryant Thank you! Well don’t let me put down your floors 😆🙈🙈 I’m sure they’re beautiful - it’s just that orange tone in my house seems to cast everything in orange!
Love that floor, but honestly, I'd watch you if you were selling canned peas. You're so funny. Great video.
This is beautiful. Do you thing it’ll work over I’m laminate?
It will absolutely work over laminate! Almost exactly the same, in fact!
😂 you have a new subscriber here. Walls are gorgeous! But my husband would have been about the same lol. He'd have said "that's color"
Looks great! Did you sand it before Big Top?
Not Too Shabby Patti Thanks! You know, I should’ve ... and showed that step but I completely forgot and I didn’t. 😝 The putty knife smooths out quite a lot, and lots of water during the layers makes the paint pretty smooth. ...but not 100% smooth. I tend to rush things & as a result, my projects aren’t as “finished” as they could be. 🙈
Do I have to fill in nail holes prior to using this paint?
In your opinion could this be done on dark wood laminate flooring (the way you did it)? Same products, same steps, same everything?
Not only do I know this could be done on laminate, I've DONE it on laminate! The products work exactly the same.
How are your floors now ?
Did the paint lasted as long as you wanted it to? Any problems with chipping?
Miriam, they're still solid as a rock, because the paint bonds to the floor... if it were latex, it would be chipping off but latex is made of plastic which just sits on top of wood, whereas DIY paint sort of becomes part of the surface, because of the clay and chalk base.
I'm subbing to your channel because your Joanna Gaines!!!! 😂😂😂
LOL!!! Wait - you'll be disappointed then!! HA! Thanks for watching.
Lol your so funny!! I love the gray bar wood look! Wanting to do this to my own floors! Ty
Thanks for watching!!
What was the last coat?
I have the old 1980s parquet floorings do you think that could be painted? I live on Sand Mountain and it’s called that for a reason (sandy) I also have 10 grandkids that live close and they are in and out of my house all the time so I would definitely be worried about durability (high traffic-unwiped little feet). Any suggestions?
Cathy Farmer You absolutely could paint them, and I think Big Top would hold up as well as whatever you have on the parquet flooring, however for the sheer volume of topcoat you’d need, you could buy a more traditional (but WATER BASED) polycrylic and apply 3 coats letting each one dry in between, and the only thing that would damage it is literally sharp things like knives, metal tools etc, just the same as the floor you currently have. 👍🏼
Cathy Farmer And you could wash it with water and mild soap as well. I’ve had this on my kitchen table for years & it’s totally fine.
Thank you now just to pick a color and wait until my grandkids all go on vacation 😊
At 3:07 I really love the dark wood-what were the colors you used to get that effect? That is exactly what I want for my house? I may do the reclaimed look for my basement. I love that as well.
Elaine Yvette Thank you! The dark wood was several coats of Old & Grey liquid patina mixed with a little bit of Weathered Wood. !
She Paints Thank you! Can't wait to try this!
She Paints One last question--about how much paint did you use for that area?
She Paints I'm sorry, this really is my last question: how do you clean it?
Elaine Yvette I used about 4 oz of each color - half of our sample sizes which I show in the video because that’s the only size container I use. It takes very little paint because of the water and you’re scraping it literally, instead of building up layers like you might for furniture or canvas. But it’s a 12 x 14 floor, so it’s a bit larger than a normal project. So keep in mind I used 3 colors so total I’d guess about a cup and a half of paint!
Can I do this to laminate wood floors please
Absolutely. the products and technique works exactly the same on laminate! ....or on concrete, cork, almost any other element as well!
Nice! I discovered 80 year old red oak in my kitchen under layers of linoleum and peel and stick with a million staples and black adhesive baked on. I hand scraped part and liked the distressed patina with some black, some lighter... but it was too much scraping for me. I hired someone and asked them to hand sand, but they got carried away and took off more than I planned. It’s raw wood now, and I’m trying to figure out how to show the grain but have nice lights and darks and muted grays. (I have a walnut brown that’s a warmer tone, and definitely want a contrast and more grey, weathered. No orangutan orange- which I fear is what would happen if I just applied a poly.) So,... I have lots of DIY paint. Should I add dark and decrepit first? Or go straight to a darker stain with white wash or glaze overtop? I wish I could test..
I’m so late to see this…. But I would say to wait on the Dark & Decrepit …. It’s a dealer and it’s not as easy to work with as the paints. You can water them down and it should act as a stain that’s as faint or as bold as you’d like! Then if you want it browner and/or darker, you can put D & D on the top of it.
Can I use urethane to seal it?
I would not. Unless it’s a water based polyurethane which do exist - those are fine. But oil based is too harsh. I can attest to the strength of water based topcoats - they are absolutely durable.
What is the BIG TOP something she is using????
I love the floor, but I wish you weren’t all over the place with the video, you have so much talent but sadly many, just like me can’t make it through the mumbling and random sounds, presumably words your tutorial has to offer. I wish it were different. Pretty floor!
She's got a talent for painting but not for video editing.
Thanks so much! Yep the sound makes me cringe every time I heard it …. But this was content for the DIY channel and not mine, so I can’t edit it. 😯
Love it!
Wendy Miller Thank you Wendy!
