Regarding Joe Blitman (the Barbie Collector guy):
He's like one of the biggest sources on the whole toy line that wasn't a direct Mattel employee. So it's not just that his video is competently made, but this man is pretty much the final authority on the subject when it comes to Barbie, particularly as a collectible and particularly when it comes to the really old models. He made an entire line of publications, videos and what not and to this day remains active in the field, while obviously knowing his shit. And he kind of makes it a point of most of his publications that this is a hobby like any other - not in tone of "hey, stop making fun of me", but simply explaining why he considers it to be a hobby worth time.
I thought RLM was pretty fair to him. He knew his shit in a niche subject. So there was nothing worth saying about the video

They've been very fair in this video in general, considering they could ridicule both Blitman and Bittenbinder with ease, instead giving them credit. In the semi-serious, semi-mocking RLM way, but still - credit.

When I was like 9 I had the VHS of that Christian comedian. I watched endlessly. I memorized the bad jokes. I memorized the songs. I can even do the lip thing. I performed for friends and family. I made a fool of myself for a year.

To be fair, I'd also start laughing when told why I wouldn't make it. Then when able, maybe even through the laughter, I'd ask "how long do I have to wait?".

There are so, so many professors and PhDs like her who have limited practical skills and may not actually be especially intelligent.
And deep down they know it, but they can't deal with that reality so they find victims to bully to make themselves feel better by comparison.
I think about a literature professor who would openly mock students in class, calling them "lazy" and such, and then end class early to go out drinking with her favorite students.
Or about the chair of my department who didn't like that I kept bringing up genuine problems to him (e.g., the microphone not working well so that hard-of-hearing students could not hear the lecture in our largest lecture hall).
So he just started blanking me in the hallway in front of the new professors who were eager to kiss his ass. He would literally see me, frown, and look away.
I dropped out. It was a financial loss, but I have kept my sanity and my soul.

The professor/chair in question specialized in rehabilitation counseling, which is career counseling for people with disabilities.
Rehab professors at my old university would regularly step in when students reported inaccessibly to explain how it actually was accessible, so the university didn't need to waste any money on it.
Like the university putting washers and dryers with touchscreens in all the dorms without vetting them for accessibility to see if blind students could use them (they couldn't).
Multiple students and even their parents complained, but the director of the "Disability Resource Center" at the university said that it wasn't the technology that was inaccessible, it was the students who "didn't know how to interact/interface with it."
That lady was power tripping. Unfortunate that she interacts with children lol.

I'm younger than the RLM but have chronic pain and disabilities. I'm also a happy person with a good life.
I know that research has shown that non-disabled people consistently rate the quality of life of disabled people lower than disabled people rate their own quality of life.
Basically, ableds look at us and assume that our lives are a living nightmare, when usually they're ... fine. Pain isn't ideal, but you adjust.
So Jay may think that he'll end things before he becomes disabled, but research and experience tells me that he'll accept it when the time comes.
And then Mike can point and laugh at him.

I’m back after the latest episode referenced Bittenbinder and I have to agree. I realized this one, with a small explanation of what the Black Spines are, might be one of the best to introduce someone to the channel with

Expecting children to internalize first what they've been told and then analyze, examine, and justify how and why they feel about it, then respond, is a pretty big burden to put on a child. Especially when it's supposed to be a response to another child, who will have no better or more succinct explanation for their behavior than "because."

When I first heard Target Panic, my mind immediately went to people in Target having panic attacks.
Stuff like that bullying video is partly why so many kids keep getting bullied. They get the dumbest advice. Meanwhile as an adult I hear endless stories of people stopping bullying by just punching them. Over and over again it it's the same story. "They bullied me until I bashed them."
That advice is only good if you're stronger than the bully. Even then, it's bad advice because oftentimes bullies are the first to tattle as soon as you fight back. I've found telling an adult you can trust is the best advice.
