    @peterjanssen5901 Před rokem +15

    Nah, they're just the best of friends. They belong to a healthier time that allowed men more leniency in being refined and elegant, which has now been deemed as foppish.
    Not all soulmates are joined together in warmth of a bed, but sometimes are joined with good conversation near the hearth.
    But I will agree that the best friends do talk like old married couples; a certain complete mutual understanding and need for one and other comes with long true friendships.

    • @ninguem6726
      @ninguem6726 Před rokem +7

      even knowing that in your view they are not a couple, I believe that their friendship is something very beautiful and profound. because Holmes was an introvert and had a friend he could trust who loved Holmes' skills and adventures he probably wouldn't have had he not known him. nowadays it is difficult to have a friendship where both parties are valued, we are very superficial.

      The fact that men these days can't express in words or in loyal deep friendship, their platonic love without the fear of that love being perceived as sexual, speaks for the shallowness of the Modern Age, where everything is reduced to Freudian psycho-babble or dull macho social posturing.

    Why are they gay? I mean they could be gay or not gay, it matters not. But two bachelors living together as good friends or two brothers or two sisters are also 'married' to each other as they know their companion's habits and personalities, without necessarily having a romantic connection. It is almost ridiculous how some people insist on these 2 being homosexual. Dr Watson was happily married before his wife died suddenly. Holmes was asexual. Remember this is not hapenning in 2024. Even now men happen to share a flat without necessarily being a couple😂😂

    • @nicole-me2oj
      @nicole-me2oj Před 7 dny

      It’s also ridiculous how you think anything you’ve said here constitutes a solid counterpoint to a homoromantic interpretation of Holmes and Watson’s relationship. Being previously married to a woman does not prevent Watson from being attracted to a man. Your presumption that Holmes is asexual is equally as unfounded as any other guess at his sexuality, as he never describes himself with that word. And the time period has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not two men could fall in love, only whether or not they were free to express it openly.
      One wonders why you clicked on this video considering the title. Just to be contrarian and shit on other people’s perfectly valid interpretations? Get a life.

      @@kingrobthegreat7446 Sherlock was written in the 1800 by Doyle. Those times were extremely homophobic in England. How homophobic? It was punishable by death. in 1861 the abolition of the death penalty for sodomy was passed and in 1967 sexual intercourse between *consenting* men was decriminalised in England and Wales. That’s only maybe 60 or so years ago. Don’t come at me with “they were more touchy” no they weren’t. Not in England anyway. It was deeply conservative and frowned upon. Men had to be stoic and proper and much like what Holmes is supposed to be. An unfeeling machine (which is dumb everyone has emotion) Tell me. How do your grandparents view LGBTQ people? I somehow doubt it’s positive.
      You aren’t entirely wrong. In some cultures it was very much the case that men show each other affection. In fact in places like Greece was actually expected that a man sleep with another man. But living domestically together with another man in those times in England always led to unsavoury rumeurs and gossip. the English love gossip, basically famous for it. Which if you paid attention to my previous paragraph will understand what horrid consequences those rumours could lead to (I recommend looking up Alan Turning).Which is what makes this show and it’s characters so special to so many people, it doesn’t conform to those times. They show affection, domesticity, they’re comfortable. At the end of the day make you’re own conclusions. For you, their just friends. That’s fine. But I choose to believe that Holmes somewhere along their adventures realised he loved Watson but wasn’t sure quite how to define love as an emotion since previously he’s thought to have non. Just don’t take away from other peoples views on the characters since there’s a reason he was written the way he was in the era he was written in. Especially since back then there wasn’t a shadows chance in hell to publish a book with an openly queer man (I say queer because I don’t think he was exclusively gay. Maybe ace/Demi) Especially not one in the lead role.
