Oil change recommended mileage - cut that in half.
Never drive thru cold river - that converter below works on 400+ Celsius and it's made out of platinum inside. Imagine steel burning hot sprinkled with water.
After driving never shut engine, leave it to run at least minute or some more at idle, for cooling the bearing in turbo.
    Be cautious with timing belt.
At least once per week go to highway, drop it in manual and drive in higher rpm ( above 3000 ) for few minutes.
I can say a lot more but this is basic. We have this engine in Europe for decades and we know issues that comes with it.
PS. That catalytic converter and dpf furnace is installed way off. It should be just behind turbo. But I see that there's no space in Wrangler.
Man I wish you all the best

@@Casey250 , I'm just sharing my experience with it, don't want to sound like some smartass asshole 😂.
One more thing, that engine hates low quality fuel,if there's high sulphur in fuel it causes high carbonization on injectors outlets, piston surface, outlet valves and on VGT impeller in turbo housing.
We put ATF oil ( one liter per full tank of fuel, so...60-80 liters fuel-1 liter ATF ) ,it helps with cleaning of internals and gives more viscosity to "dry" diesel fuel.
Not saying that you have to do that, because maybe they changed some parts on engine due to difference of market compared to Europe. And we have really clean fuel, but we also have issues.
Example,if we do off-road drives we change oil after 2000-3000 kilometers. If it's mixed 50-50 road off road,we change before 7500 km. If it's only road use we change from 10-15 thousand km. All with high quality oil available,Mobil 1,Castrol,or in case of Fiat group Selenia is recommended,or Agip/Eni.

@William Cooper ,here to share ✌️.
Btw,I forget to mention, ATF in fuel, every 3-4th time full fill up. Not every time.
You guys in US/Canada market are running on gasoline engines for ages while we in Europe are more on diesels. It's rare to see Mercedes, BMW, Audi or VW here with gas engine. Mostly diesel up to 3.0l straight or V configuration.
And we always run away from diesel made in Italy 😁😉

From front to back on exhaust. DPF filter tube coming off back of it low pressure EGR. Aka the clean egr. Pre dpf egr is where the soot clogs the intake. So DPF after that is SCR injector aka diesel exhaust fluid. Then SCR filter. Selective catalyst reduction. Then tail pipe.

Also, the underbody portion: the portion forward in car that you pointed to was the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and the one to the rear was the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. (The little thing with the reflective hood that plugs into the exhaust is the DEF injector)

Loving the videos, but the DPF on the Diesel is a nightmare, they are unreliable, can faill, and if they get clogged up you will go into limp mode and need jeep to clear it. As others have said, be V E R Y careful on any river crossings as the change in temperature as you hit the water can destroy the DPF, and there VERY expensive to replace. This is why I stuck with the 3.6

underneath there is the DPF (heatshielded) and the the muffler (protected by the skid plate) . Being in europe we are pretty used to those things, deleting them is a major hurdle and needs tuning and turbo back pressure checks. Keeping them is fine but remember to run your JL on longer runs at higher revs to burn off the soot in the DPF from time to time. the EGR , as stated, is near the intake and not down the exhaust even though a pipe does run from exhaust manifolds to the EGR. Basically the EGR will become sooty and dirty on the long run and is a PITA to maintain...emissions emissions!!! You will also have to check oil level frequently as the EGR plus DPF system does have a tendency to blow unused diesel back down into the crankcase..The joys of modern de-polluted diesels running cold and not long enough...

So the tires on the jeep stock are crap. To get the full gvw out of the jeep you will need to replace those tires with ones that have a higher payload.

As an Ecodiesel owner. There great engine's. But according to manual DON'T EXCEED 8,000 miles on oil changes. Change fuel and air filters every 15,000 miles. And as long as the emissions equipment stays in tact. Clean out EGR diffuser tube about 30,000 miles. And clean the DEF nozzle around 50,000. They will scale up. Its an easy thing to do. Also how the emissions system works is it's a 3 step system. You have EGR first. Then DPF or diesel particulate filter. Then DEF injection then the catalyst. Thay are both in one pice. So the big one right off turbo down tube is DPF. then the next pice back is the DEF injection and SCR or selective catalyst reduction. And the last pice under the skid plate should be a resonator.

I've worked with diesel trucks for 23 years. And love the idea of the economy and power of the light duty diesel engine. I was extremely excited when Ram announced the 3.0 in 2012. And purchased my 2014 Ecodiesel in 2017 with 74k. I've now put 61k on it with very good results. It hasn't let me down, fuel economy has been very good. Especially for a 4x4 crew cab. And towing a 7k camper it gets dubble didgit fuel mileage. Just keep up on maintenance and filters. I also use both fuel and oil additives. On regular basis. And as you can tell by the mileage. This truck gets driven a lot. So to make sure it can do regular regeneration drive it on the highway at least 30 miles once a week if you go lots of short trips. If DPF ever does start to get full or too many regenerations are interupted. There will be a message on EVIC screen. And use Hot Shots secret. It will help to clean it out.

Do not remove the egr diffuser tube to clean, it is absolutely pointless as you are knocking spot into your intake and it provides no added benefit. Oil can go way past 8k miles, 10-12 easily.

My 2013 Passat TDI used DEF. And yes, it got about 5 gal's per 10k miles. to be honest, you never really paid much attention to it but I did always carry a small 2ltr bottle of the stuff just in case. VW's would still run if it was empty, but if you shut if off, it wouldn't start. These are not your "dads" diesels. And after VW's dieselgate, I was worried about future costs so, we sold it back though it was all paid for and only 3 years old. Got most of my money back including the 10 year/120k mile bumper/bumper warranty but wanted to car to be one of the kids cars. Just lost my confidence. I miss it. 60mpg hwy, mid 40's city on a good day. AND, I've not heard anything good about putting K&N filters in a diesel. At least not VW's.

The egr/dpf emissions system in the engine is really bad. EGR cooler is known to leak and when it does it becomes a fire hazard and turns that jeep into a ticking time bomb. That engine is best with an egr/DPF delete and tune. But if one chooses to leave those in, watch the coolant levels and if you notice any coolant leaking then get the emissions system checked out right away. And any engine light related to the emissions system is not to be ignored.

At 7lbs per gallon, there is a decent different between having a full tank of gas and an empty tanks. I’d assume the payload is calculated assuming full tanks of DEF and Diesel, so if they weren’t topped off that could count for some of the difference.
