- See how Ethiopia became a mighty empire in Africa that managed to last to the modern day, never being colonized by Europe other than a brief moment by Italy from 1936 - 1941.

EmperorTigerstar ok
Metsarebuff 22
Wasn't An Lushan rebellion?
Yay!
I love Ethiopia history, good job on the video.
No intro?
Although the country is in turmoil I still find it amazing how they managed to survive for about 2000 years + and except for 5 years of Italian rule they managed to completely avoid getting colonized.
Yes, and also Somalis fighting them managed to take some land for a while.
You useless shit, YOU WERE AN INEFFECTIVE AND UTTERLY STUPID GENERAL.
Honestum
How the 7,847,624th stupid comment going?
Well I havent broke the Austrian lines yet but I plan to do that in the 7,847,625th Battle of the Isonzo
Semitic nation's are rarely colonized
Ethiopia can't into coastline.
*Eritrea pls*
Eritrea, y u do dis?
Ethiopia can't have coast hotels and make money of beach lovers.
Bota Tobias yeah thank communism for that
Thank Italians more like, they created Eritrea to begin with.
*_THEY NEVER GOT ETHIOPIA_*
Vietnam Mapper *THEY NEVER GOT THAILAND*
Say no more.
*ETHIOPIA IS A DEADLY LAZER*
Benito Mussolini where are you! Italy needs you right now. XD
No Italy clearly needs me.
This should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times.
Those nations are considered ethiopian, because they were run by the same noble houses as Ethiopia. (Feudal times, 'n shit) And by the same logic, modern Germany wasn't established before the reunification between west and east Germany.
I DONT NEED SLEEP I NEED EMPERORTIGERSTAR
Chandler Short yea he made me wake up
Kinda disappointed that you didn't go earlier than this. Like Kush and Punt from like 2000 BCE
SirVolcy these were located in modern day Somalia
golden foxa Kush was in Sudan. Punt was in Somaliland. The capital of punt is modern day berbera
SirVolcy punt was also in Ethiopia, Somali Djibouti and maybe sudan
You mean dmt
It's crazy to think that the cession of the Ogaden area (the pointy bit by the Somalian border) has led to modern day conflict. This area is overwhelmingly Somali (85-90%) and was given to Ethiopia by the British in the 1950s in exchange for keeping unruly tribes in check but it caused a backlash in Somalia and Britain tried to buy the lands back. This later led to the Somali-Ethiopian War of 1978/79 in which the Emperor of Ethiopia was overthrown and replaced by the Communist Derg. Also as a result in Somalia Said Barre (the dictator of Somalia until 1993) became pro-western and extremely U.S friendly. His overthrow led to the US intervention and instability in Somalia today.
jason condliffe True. But wasn't Siad Barre a communist? He also committed many genocides against the Somali people living in his country, starting in the northern region (known as Somaliland right now) because the majority clan living there were angry and dissatisfied that they weren't given positions in the parliament. Many Somalis also believe in a One Somalia, and want to get back their land in Ethiopia and Kenya.
he was socialist and didn't care for communists and fought a war against the full force of the Russian pact.
Somalia under his rule didn't have a parliament
he attack Somaliland (SNM) started by and funded by Ethiopia
jason condliffe excatly
He wasn't extremely US friendly he was part of the Sino pact, for communism the reason him and the US were friendly was because the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Hagos Gebre no he didn't the land was given to Ethiopia after the British left
I love your animated map histories. I used to do something like this for fun, with tracing paper, in high school. It was REALLY helpful on the SAT and GRE history sections! I also messed around with "What If" map scenarios. Keep up the good work.
everyone in comments: They never got Ethiopia
me: 1:06
Italy conquered Ethiopia, but Italy didn't colonize it, Italy tried to colonize Ethiopia two times, but both were unsuccessful.conquer and colonize do not have the same defininition.
But they still got Ethiopia
This is so perfect because of the drum beat right at 1:06
yeah, I know.
who cares, colonization in Africa didn't have nearly the amount of impact as it had on the Americas anyways, so its not like everyone in Africa is now white anyways like it was in N. America and S. america to a lesser extant (half are whites, other half are latinos which are half white and half native in themselves)
thanks
FantasticEnder men you are everywhere lol
emperor, you are biased. the history of ethiopia starts before 1000bc during the dmot empire!
For the region, yes. But those aren't considered the modern Ethiopia. This starts from when the first person was crowned Emperor of Ethiopia. Kush and D'mot are ancestor nations.
Thomas Jackson thats true
It was yemeni not Ethiopian
+EmperorTigerstar Can we have a video on the ancestor nations of Ethiopia lol.
MooseMouse8435 land of punt was in somalia
Excellent video like always my Emperor!
İt is nice to see you are making videos about not well known empires.
hey tiger, I know I haven't been a sub for a long time but I know you have been here on CZcams for a very long time. thank you for staying this long thus far!
I may be dying from lack of sleep, but it's worth it
your rat looks adorable
eduardopupucon thanks
wheres Abyssinia my nigga?
Same thing.
yeah they were in the medieval times but you start the clock in the 1500s
Linyboo I was looking for d''mt and Axum
Most people don't know that Italy tried to colonize Ethiopia. Twice.
it only lasted 4 years tho, so, irrelevant
And won the second time... "tried"
... Captain? Captain Decimus, is that you? From the legendary MATN let's play as the Brutii Romans? How in Jupiter's name have you survived?
Genny Bianco they didn't colonize it not for a second they only invaded and got locked out
@@CaptainDecimus no they didn’t boss
why not start with the ancient axum or Abyssinia?
Great Video
Interesting. Can you provide also references to sources? That wold make it really interesting.
it would have bean nice if u included the two italian conflicts but nice eathiopia diserves more attention
This video made me a bit hungry...
Why? For telling you the truth?
bruh
Ethiopia how's the weather down there?,
Oddly pleasant
very sunny
You should've also mapped the Brittish and the Italians.
Also, some reggae at the time of Selassie would've been a nice touch ;P
Emperor, is there a video 'bout 1st n 2nd Italo-Ethiopia wars? u know, that would be great
It is so sad that Eritrea broke away and now that it is doing crimes against humanity. It really would be better off back in Ethiopia again.
Keine Ahnung und so... I doubt Ethiopia and Eritrea will join together again anytime soon. They've always been independent of one another despite the close similarities they have the kingdoms in Eritrea were known as kings of the sea and the kings in Ethiopia were known as kings of the land. Although they did occasionally co-operate as against the Somali-Ottoman force that invaded in the 1540s, they also sided with Somalis, Ottomans and other ethic groups whenever this suited them. Although perhaps a unified kingdom/confederation could have been created post WWII, the Ethiopian Emperor Hassie Salessie abolished Eritreas autonomy notwithstanding its UN charter for such guarantees.
+jason condliffe They still could unify. Their ethnicities are VERY similiar and nobody would mind suddenly living in a democracy instead of a dictatorship.
Keine Ahnung und so... Both countries are authoritarians, also the ethnicities within those nations differ a lot, which are the major causes of the instabilities and harsh government ruling in these as well as many other African nations.
Keine Ahnung und so... False Its ethiopia doing it
+pivotcat9 Ethiopia is still better than Eritrea. Eritrea is one of the worst places where you could live due to its slavery. A half democratic and half authoritarian country can sometimes be better than a 100% republic as you can see on Ethiopia. Both countries share similar languages so an Eritrean reintegration wouldn't be that hard.
Hey, kids in Ethiopia could've eaten those dislikes!

Ethiopia is far older than this video hints at, i wish he had started it a couple of thousand years earlier
Christian Nafziger Ya, this should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times.
Damn I've never been this early to one of your videos.
What border do I have to believe for 1900? The one given here or the one on omniatlas?
great
nice
you should do one on the history of the 3 kingdoms period in china
What about the Civil War alternate history??
It is worth to remember that many people in Ethiopia (for example Oro and Somali) claim that they were colonised by the Ethiopiam Empire
Do about ADSL and abisinia wars
Love it
Song?
EmperorTigerstar I sent you a message through CZcams messaging system but I doubt you'll see it. Do you have an email that I can contact you at? There are a few really good ideas that I want to discus that could be beneficial to us both. You can find my email under my "About" section if you're interested. Thanks!
Well hello their.
LIT!
Do you want to make History of Czechia?
Wasn't Ethiopia there before this
jerry bushman Yes, you're correct. The video should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times. The Empire was established in 1137. Misleading title.
nice! Well, they were never really colonized, just occupied. And it would have been nice if the capitol was shown on the map. :)
well, before like the 1700s or so, the capital wasn't really a thing, they would just go around to the places of attention.
Where is Shewa? This clip should be updated
shewa doesn't have much history if you compare to other places in ethiopia.
But wasn't Ethiopia like split into a several regions between the mid 18th and the mid 19th century during the Age of Princes or something like that? Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not very good at African history.
it so beatifull empire
but when did sally struthers get there??? thats a critical detail in the country's history that ya just flat-out neglected to include!
So many power struggles! Particularly whatever happened right here:
1832 Sahle Dengel
1840 Yohannes III
1841 Sahle Dengel
1850 Yohannes III
1851 Sahle Dengel
Was during the terminal phase of the "War of the princes".
some of them died in battle so that's why

What's the average Ethiopian cuisine
An empty plate
XxTheSlumpGodxX oh so edgy
Let's play a game
Hungry, Hungry Ethiopians
MagknoTheWise Their tiny, overstarved stomachs won't be able to hold a lot of food
no wonder why I always see a plate on their month
We usually do these jokes with Somalians, not Ethiopians (same though)
so much gripping in the comments.
I don't mind the fact that this started when the name ethiopia was first used for the area [may be wrong]
Wasn't Ethiopia already a kingdom back when Rome was still a republic?
Ya, The video should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times. The Empire was established in 1137. Misleading title.
Christiaan de Vries it was Axum or d,mt and or kush then
What happened in nineteen forty one that caused the nation to be reformed?
SO EARLY
Thats the first nation Ive seen getting progressingly bigger
Ethiopia in Troy’s war’s period left the chat
Ethiopia stronk!
The only place that held up against European forces until Italy colonized it.
The United Kingdom liberated Ethiopia shortly after during WW2.
If I remember correctly, there was a Dark Age Kingdom of Axum in the middle of Ethiopia. I think it was around the year 1000.
louisalectube Axum was actually ~100 AD and before that was D'MT ~980 BC.
louisalectube gudit did it, she was an emperors aunt who was exiled to Yemen then she got an army and came back and really fucked shit up
you need to update
It will be perfect if you had put also the borders of the neighboring countries
The Motherland of all Humanity.
Ethiopia: the unconquerable (except for when it was)
it never was
@@PajeetBatmanSymbol Italy in 1935 successfully invaded Ethiopia and controlled the region until the British defeated them in 1941 and took the region
@@aydankhakh2191 invaded but never took control of the country
@@PajeetBatmanSymbol Italy had control of the country after the second Italian-Ethiopian war until the British took control of the region in WW1 also I don’t think you understand what invaded means I suggest looking it up
@@aydankhakh2191 You should search up the difference between occupication and colonization. If Ethiopia got controlled and colonized by Italy. By that logic France got colonized by Germany in WWII

Menelik II...
xD
?
Though the Ethiopian Empire began in 1137, there were kingdoms and empires that preceded it. They were Kingdom of Punt ( 2500 BC - 1100 BC), the Kingdom of D'mt (980 BC - 400 BC), the Aksumite Empire (100 CE - 940 CE), the Zagwe dynasty (900 CE - 1270 CE), and finally the Ethiopian Empire (1137 CE - 1974 CE). Etheopia has a very long and rich history.
Ęÿūį Æßñ punt wasn't Ethiopian also most of these weren't in modern day Ethiopia
Ęÿūį Æßñ Yes you're correct. The video should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times. The Empire was established in 1137. Misleading title.
They gave up sea access that was a mistake
Bolivia and Ethiopia are good friends with a lot in common :D
Alex CLD both are starving countries that's why
Alex CLD Because they both lost coastline 😃?
And same flag colors ha
Alex CLD I fuckin hate yall XD
Ethiopian navy vs Bolivian navy. Bolivia has ships in it's lakes and rivers, Ethiopia has one boat in one of it's lakes. LOL.
Where is ancient Ethiopia and Abyssinia?
Ethiopia is modern day Sudan
Abyssinia is modern day Ethiopia
*whispers* they never got Ethiopia
Nakagami Ryou shut up clueless idiot
The eternal civilisation.
Ethiopia exestiert but since about 700 BC, or not? The kingdom of Ethiopia was, after all, the longest-lived state in the world ...
Fírimar Yes, you're correct. The video should be retitled to, "The History of the Ethiopian Empire: Every Year" because Ethiopia was established in ancient times. The Empire was established in 1137. Misleading title.
The Italians put a little dent in their history from 1936-1941
As far as I know. Ethiopian empire streched all the way to Southern Egypt.
bruh they had mostly the same border as they did in the 1920s
Nobody can overpower the Cradle of Humanity!
Facts 🇪🇹 🇪🇹 🇪🇹 🇪🇹 🇪🇹
So... When does it become an *Empire?*
+Tasu kete Yeah, that was kind of my point. I'm just watching and wondering "At which point did the decide they were an Empire?"

Yes, Shewa is annexed by Ethiopia around 1855. That is sad. Shewa should be a separate country again. ሸዋ እንደገና ራሷን የቻለች ሉአላዊ አገር መሆን አለባት .

Vorpals The Empire of Punt was in modern day Somaliland not Ethopia

Разве эфиопы использовали "глаголицу" в своей письменности? Те закорючки после имен царей это буквы алфавита, называемого Глаголица, которые раньше использовались и на Руси. Как-то странно их увидеть в африке
Rather than showing it being occupied form other countries you don't show it?
I'm saying that making the country disappear is misleading, which I doubt many people pointed out
Habasha invaded oromo 1800's while west Somalis 1900's
People: Mosolini can't into Ethiopia!

In 1974 the Emperor was overthrown and the government was controlled by communists for over a decade.

1977 War of Ogaden with Somalia
There was even a Communist Arab State--the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (or South Yemen). It specifically called itself a "Scientific Socialist" state--an idea devised by Karl Marx's partner, Friedrich Engels:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_socialism
It's not a coincidence that Yemen is the poorest Arab country, even though it has farmland, water, and a good location on the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Somalia BTW was also communist under Saeed Barre
Ethiopia best Zimbabwe
But what if Ethiopia was a superpower?
Brian of America back in the Byzantine times it was...until someone's aunt got an army and fucked it all up
ethiopia has slowly moved to the right over the centuries.
they never got ethiopia...
This video is an insult! You leave out 2000 years of ethiopian history from 900 B.C. to 1100 AD. and you also ignore the centuries 1200-1500 aswell as ignoring many changes from 1500-today.
hola
Great Empire of dirt and nothing, they must be proud
