Making a big splash as John Connor opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger & Linda Hamilton in James Cameron's TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, for a few years he was everywhere, starring opposite Jeff Bridges in American Heart, leading Pet Sematary II and even cutting an album (for real). However, after a promising move into leading roles as an older teen/young adult with John Waters' Pecker and American History X, his career cooled, and he became more known for his personal problems than his acting. I met Edward in 1995. I had a classmate in high school that her sister had serious health issues and she had a crush for Edward. The family was able to contact Edward and he came to visit the ill girl and spent time with her and the family for a day. She ended up passing away later. He seemed to be a very simple teenager who was down to earth. I give him a lot of respect for taking the time to spend time with the girl before she passed.

Ed Furlong is like the kid you knew in grade school and junior high who was the coolest kid on the planet, then you see him at your 10 year reunion and you're thankful you weren't as cool as he was.

He still is cool. He reminds me so much of Brad Renfo. They both had raw, natural acting abilities, came from poor, broken homes, both handsome as hell, both plucked from obscurity as kids to be the lead in a gigantic film and both addicts. I only wish Brad was still with us and I’m glad Eddie is.

Actually we don't have to judge anyone without moving into his/her shoes.
And believe me we can't move into anyone's shoes and we can't even imagine the pain inside the person's life.
at some point you have to accept he's not a victim and he is a perpetrator. he beats up women.
@CK1 does it hurt so much to see the women he dates get broken by him - emotionally, spiritually, physically? because you should care as much about them as you do about him.
Whether Edward makes a big Hollywood comeback, a return to John Connor, or never acts in another movie again, so long as he’s sober and happy with who he is is the most important thing of all. We love ya Eddie. Stay healthy and stay true to yourself. Brainscan forever!

I think AHX is perfect the way it is and should not be messed with. It’s a good flick, a little heavy handed with the white supremacy > street gangs in the street violence department but the message is clear and true. All of these gangs, clubs, cliques are a joke and all they do is cloud your thinking and make you what they want you to be and not your own person.

I agree! T2 is one of the best sequels ever made and American History X is a cult classic. I probably love AHX even more than T2, it's one of those films I never get tired of watching. It's hard hitting, heart warming, heart breaking and devastating all rolled into one.

I met Edward at Pleasure Island 10 Movie Theatres, while watching T2 he was directly in front of me with his uncle. During the opening credits he and his uncle were clapping four fingers together quietly for James Cameron and Arnold. When the film finished they both got up turning to face me and I told him he did an awesome job. I asked for an autograph and he was more than happy too, such nice person. What are the chances of being in a Florida AMC Theater and watching a movie with the actor right in front of you? Thursday July 18 1991 10:10pm showing still have my ticket and Reel Reviews that he signed Eddie Furlong.

@@mrswolf3084 either ephebophilia but I think it's highly likely it's a control thing and not an attraction thing. A 15 yo is very impressionable especially when it's an adult manipulating them. It's kinda like when Edgar Allan Poe married his young cousin because the cousin was so young that she would worship everything he did while women his age would right away notice he wasn't a catch in the state he was in.

Playing a kid that was dysfunctional was natural for him, he was believable and relatable. A fresh face and interesting. Had they used someone we had seen in other roles, i.e. Macaulay Culkin or Elijah Wood...it wouldn't have worked. It would have put a spotlight on them in that role, "Awe the kid from Home Alone is in the new Terminator.." would have been a bad pick.
It’s so weird how nobody said anything to Edward about his relationship with that woman. Maybe this family tried to intervene but still she shouldn’t have been able to get away that. Edward had the potential to become a great young actor; He’s truly talented but nobody guided him in the right direction. Great video!

His aunt and uncle (who were his guardians) were not happy about it and actually filed a complaint against her, but nothing came of it. He moved out of their house and in with her.

I honestly feel bad for him. He got a bad hand delt to him and was groomed in the public eye and everyone just let it happen. And have the nerve to ask what happened. It's sick
His Uncle and Aunt didn't let it happen, tried as they might, Edward was unfortunately too young to understand the potential repercussions and psychological damage he was allowing himself to get involved in. He was asked point blank if he was in love and his answer was an over-the-moon "yes". He could've walked away at any time he wanted, but chose not to. Ultimately, everything that followed after was his own doing. Unless people were literally forcing him to take drugs along the way.
Despite that, I also feel bad for him. Had no idea when he performed Terminator 2 he was literally fresh meat on the chopping block. Never saw another movie he was in, and now I know why. Hollywood is disgusting.

No one ever rocked their hair like Eddie in T2. My first real crush as a kid. Gorgeous! And an amazing actor. I love him in T2, a Home of our Own, Detroit Rock City, American History X, American Heart, all of it.
Edward is my hero. He found his way out of the mess he was in with heroin and I'm trying to do the same after 21 years of use, I turned 40 this year, and it's been a long road. Ed recently got beautiful new set of teeth, all on 4 peg type, which I'm hoping to get to as mine our gone. Much love Ed. Congrats on your 3 years and running sobriety!

I had the biggest crush on Edward furlong when I was 12 to 14 years old . I think he was a natural actor and could have been even bigger had he been able to fight all the bad things that come with fame and money . Praying for him. And that poor scared boy deep down inside him.

i met him and monica at a sex podcast/show called dr. suzy’s in 2012. i could tell they were both strung out as fuck but it was kinda fun, i had a crush on him when i was 10 from T2, but ya he was very bloated and sad looking. and monica was way way too skinny. both had sunken eyes. ya hope they are both better.

I think your conclusion, while thoughtful, misses the point: the big "what if" isn't whether or not he was scooped out of a normal life, but what if someone, anyone, had stepped in to protect him from a goddamn predator. That sort of grooming and sexual abuse can stunt a person for life.
If the genders were swapped and it was a 29 year old man dating a 15 year old starlet, things would have been very different, it's a bullshit double standard that happens because a 29 year old woman grooming a 15 year old boy is no less sickening.
@@TarkynZone the acknowledgement of sexual abuse of children by women, especially teenaged boys, by adult women is a huge problem of society. There are actually a lot of films romanticising such "relationships". I think it was and still is a common way of thinking to regard such a boy as "lucky". And I also believe that this has to do with the way men see their own role and the role of a woman in society. This perspective is so narrowed and also stilted, it simply does not allow the acceptance of the victimisation of males by females.
I think both are equally big "what if" questions.
I was only 4 and my babysitter did that to me. And then I never really thought about it again until I was 15 and came to realise just how much this messed me up. I felt I had an invisible target on me. I was abused my two men at crucial moments of my childhood after the female incident. I became a chronic H addict and it took 18 years of hell to break those chains on my life. Im not afraid to share my story now and have learnt how to associate love with sex. For years I couldn’t. I still haven’t been able to have the one thing I long for, to be married and have someone I can love. But I haven’t lost hope that it will happen. Anyway that’s my contribution. Good bless you all.

He had the coolest hair ever in T2.
He did more awesome films in a decade, than most people do in their careers. Brainscan and Animal Factory are two very underappreciated films that he did during that time. Both of them are great films.

It's better to be a Film Star when you are above 30. Your career lasts till you are 90. Child Stars ALWAYS go into addiction and fade away.
If they start in their 20s, it seems like they get to stay in Hollywood even longer provided they don't let it all get to their head. There are quite a few 'sex symbols' from their 20s who are now relatively mature 30 and 40 somethings. Yes, there were some who started in their 20s that ended up crashing and burning. But, numerous actors and actresses, like Furlong, who starred in big blockbusters as young kids have really gone away more so than stayed the course.
There are very few sane actors. Lying for a living takes it's toll.
Just look at Will 'Unhinged Psychopath' Smith.
Usually need to be a decent stand up comedian or musician if you wanna keep your head in Hollyweird. Most actors including Will are neither of those things. They can't take criticism. They're unstable.

Yeah I don't either have any sympathy for her, she groomed and manipulated him when his brain was not fully developed, so good on him. That said of course no excuse for attacking other partners later when he was an adult. But what that woman did to him and maybe some Hollywood predators too really explains lot of his behavior, I feel so bad for him and hope that he has got help now.

Furlong is a victim of being a successful child actor. It's very difficult to reinvent yourself as an adult, if most people remember you as an adorable child. Child actors such as Gary Coleman, Macaulay Culkin, Wil Wheaton, Haley Joel Osment etc... faced the same challenges.
The biggest thing Haley Joel Osment has going for him is the Kingdom Hearts series. Thankfully Macaulay Culkin turned his life around and is doing much, much better now.
Is becoming famous at 15 really considered a child star? Would you consider Taylor Swift a child star? She released her first album at 15.

Circumstances are similar, but 2 totally different kinds of actors. Renfro had talent from the beginning, Furlong eventually gained _some_ ability.

I had no idea T2 was Edward's first movie. Honestly awesome, considering not only how much of a classic it is, but how good he is in it.
His voice cracking didn't seem like a problem to me, either. A moment where reality fits a character. Brainscan is still one of my favorite movies of all time, for some reason.
He used to come to my work in Sherman Oaks once in awhile. He was super cool and down to earth. We had so many celebrities come to my work and he was amongst the nicest. Funnily enough his “dad” Michael Biehn would come there too. Another sweetheart. And still one of the handsomest dudes I’ve ever seen!! This was back in 2008/9
I’d love to see him comeback to movies. Even make an appearance in stranger things or something since it’s so nostalgic. I wanted to be this kid when I was younger.

I have heard this a lot over the years and I disagree. I think Furlong acted circles around Norton in that movie. Norton did his best with the role, but just isn't believable. If you don't believe me, watch it again. Every scene where Norton gets the most credit, or is the most memorable, are all about the cinematography and, usually, slomo. He does fine, but Furlong's performance is so believable, raw and genuine, it can't be surpassed.

@@sponish0 I'd have to guess it seemed that way because it wasn't garish. He played a believably intelligent street thug who has a change of heart about his fundamental beliefs in only a day or two. To stand your ground against a gang member in a bathroom, and play airplane with your kid sister who you love as the same character in the same movie and have neither of them feel at all like acting is a daunting task that few actors ever face. I've known some kids from the streets who were smarter than you'd expect who were struggling in vain to live a better life and he fucking nailed it. I'll grant that he was probably playing himself, and thus not acting so much as Ed Norton was, but I believe his performance implicitly.

Those squeaks in his voice and imperfections surely made terminator 2 a great movie. It felt slightly authentic. But then again I grew up through it. I’m partial to Edward he’s a great actor. This woman definitely took advantage of him. This prolly affected him… And it’s fur-long lol 😝
Nicholas Cage also has been stuck doing low brow films. But Nick still goes hard in the films. He definitely gets into character and it feels like he puts max effort into his characters. Just saying, something I noticed and respect
I have always loved Eddie Furlong and I believe he, just as anyone else, is deserving of a chance at redemption. By that, I mean we should always be understanding and hopeful for him to do well again. He deserves it. We all do.

Man, Edward Furlong was probably the biggest let down in movie history, he could have been one of the biggest A* along with Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp and such. I can understand that you go rebel once in a while with alcohol and drugs and such when young, but what strikes me the most with Furlong is his lack in motivation to make a comeback, ever. It's like he chose to party all his life long, to never do anything else. I never took him for that kind of guy. It's understandable that it might not be fun being approached and looked at as a cute child star, but Edward out of them all had a chance to actually be taken seriously as his career would have progressed. Due to his presence in Terminator and the American History X, he had the chance to choose his career slowly and wisely to make the big bucks, but also starring in the movies that actually had some quality to them, a chance to become an A* for the rest of his life. Even if he didn't like fame or whatever, it's sad that he doesn't respect the art of acting more. Johnny Depp for example do not fancy fame, he can't even look at himself in movies, but he finds motivation in the work of the art work and creativity, it's a shame Edward Furlong didn't find that.

I've loved every movie I've seen Edward in. He was a staple actor for me in my youth, I love his movies. T2, Pet Semetary 2, American History X..etc. He's only a few years older than me so he was a very relatable persona for my imagination to live through the stories being told. Thank you for the memories and moments Edward.

I worked with Furlong on Animal Factory.
He was one of the nicest guys Ive ever worked with but was akso a HUGE pain in the ass. At that time I his girlfriend was Natasha Lyonne who was also a heroin addict. When she didnt come to visit on set Furlong was an absolute pro. It was a really low budget film directed by Steve Buscemi that was being shot in a real prison. Furlong was acting next to Willem Dafoe who is extremely professional but also demands the same from hia co-stars he shares screentime with.
During the first 2 weeks we couldnt have gotten a better performance from Furlong. He came in ready to act and just nailed scene after scene after scene. We were easily making our days in a very tough and condensed shooting schedule.
Then Lyonne came to visit one week and that was it. It was a different Furlong. Late to set, late for call, missed call times, didnt know his lines and honestly didnt give a shit about the film. At one point he refused to come out of his hotel room because he claimed "his girlfriend's aunt's roommate's cat died" and he was so devastated that he couldn't get into character. He wouldnt answer his door and rarely answered his room phone. The only way we knew he was there was because we'd see his assistant coming in and out with food and beverages (and who knows what else) at random hours of the day.
Buscemi gave him every ounce of sympathy he could but when this dragged out for 3 days somebody on the set had the idea to tell him that we were going to call the police to see if he was okay . This worked and Furlong was back on set.
He was there but he wasnt there. I can still watch the film and know which scenes were which, the ones we got from the first 2 weeks when he was on point or the last 2 weeks when he was on drugs and had mentally checked out. It didnt necessarily ruin the film but it didnt help his career either.

It looks like he is turning his life around, i hope he can do it. Drug addiction appears to be in his family, and as a child start he must have been stressed and overwhelmed. I really hope he can continue staying out of trouble, not only for his own health but for his kids.
If he never had these problems, would we have seen him reprise the role in each movie? Possible avoided the child killing one.

Another similar story was Brad Renfro who was just found for The Client. Also went down the road of drugs, weight gain, but he unfortunately passed away in 2008. Eddie had a couple of good movies in his filmography. He just looks so worn out now. It’s kinda sad.

I definitely hope he does because the guy is only about 45 years old right now. Not too many people get the experience of being thrust into fame the way that he did. Just the fact that a 28-year-old was dating him when he was 15 is pretty messed up. But you can’t deny the guy was talented. I think his acting in American history X definitely shows that.

Thanks for this. I am a hardcore T2 fan since seeing it in the first row of a packed screaming theater when it came out. Like everybody else I fell in love with Baby Tough Guy Eddie Furlong. His travails are heartbreaking. But I have known other addicts of drugs and physical violence, and they have recovered. Here's hoping he has.

One major oversight this video had missed, which would explain why his acting career will forever be different from his younger days, is that his brain is almost completely fried from all the heavy drug use. All your sound bytes of FUR-long (not fear-long) are of him when he was way younger and his facilities were sharp. For those not quite understanding, just listen to any of his interviews recently, or anything past 2018, and you can tell how hard the drug usage has damaged his basic cognitive display and expression. It’s sad, but seriously, hope he finds and maintains happiness in his life.

I looked upto this kid and fascinated by his appearance, he is my age group. Much later I saw Leonardo Di Caprio and I was like look that's that Terminator kid. Later found out he was messed up and Leonardo di Caprio is someone different .. LMAO
I met him on the set of 'Darfur' . He was a blast!! . Fantastic , eccentric , completely goofy . I loved him . I would greet him in the morning with "Eddieee" and he would grin behind his Red Bull 😁. I actually miss him .

I have so many great stories of that shoot ...and some I cannot share but one of the most amusing episodes was with the 'baby impaling' scene where a rubber baby was to mounted on top of a stake. Gruesome scene , and one that we all knew would be cut from the final edit , however , the rubber prop which is extremely expensive and specialized kept flopping its head over and tearing off before the actors could perform their morbid act . Uwe Bol was always "more blood" "..more blood" and by the end of the day we were all covered in blood gathering pieces of a dismembered rubber baby . Bitching to ourselves "They're gonna cut this fucking scene anyway" We kakked off but had a lot of fun . One night some of us took one of the rubber corpses and pranked the locals at the nearby pub . You could only tell it was fake by poking it with your finger. 😆
Pretty insane to be hanging out at a boys & girls club to be plucked and dropped into one of the biggest movies of all time. I actually love Brainscan, I watched it the other day, been years since I seen it.

I asked him what he was like. He just shook his head and gestured injecting himself with a needle into his arm. Very sad.
