Go Square for Power Punching

A great way to increase your power punching is to square your boxing stance. As always though, there is a trade off when you go for power.
Making your stance square allows you to drive lots of power in your hooks and uppercuts.
However, this is not a stance to go with at long range.
The trade off is that with a square stance you are less mobile, less able to use explosive footwork to shift position.
Another aspect of this is the willingness to switch southpaw to orthodox and back again.
To that end there is an additional boxing footwork drill to help you develop that ability.
So go for this power punching alternative at close and mid range, not at long range.
Cheers
Fran

This is the best boxing channel on CZcams.
the OG channel too, I like ricky funez channel too.
@@elbosshogg4179 Funez sucks.
Anthony too
Strongly agree
Consistently excellent.
I literally learned something from this video that I never learned during my 15 years of doing boxing on an amateur level, and that is how to change the stance for power for an uppercut by squaring up as he did. Just by trying it once, I noticed I generated ton more power
This man is literally not aging unreal

Gggggggggggggg
Finally a video about square stance. Far too many videos about staggered/ boxing stance.
During my study and training i have come to realise the importance of both stances.
You will never know what position you will end up during a fight.
Fran ur the man! Love ur precise style. Uve Taught me alot.
Fran is the man! No.1 boxing coach on CZcams 👊🏿
Fran - There are very few trainers that can hit the bag with the power and precision you have shown. Thanks for demonstrating that you do practice what you preach!
Fran I’ve been watching your videos for a while now I have upped my game technically also strategically! Keep you the great work! Love it!
I've commented on some of your other videos the differences in my experience in Taekwondo, and your experience in boxing. In this video, your footwork looks a lot more like what I'm used to for the traditional Taekwondo footwork. Wider stances, using steps to switch lead sides, and using the motion of the step to apply acceleration into the punch.
This is what I love about using the internet to discuss martial arts. You get to see the differences between your art and another, and appreciate the passion and work that goes into each. But you also get to appreciate the similarities and find the common ground between you.
Your videos are excellent. I've been binge-watching them all week since someone pointed me to your channel. Keep up the great work!
Hey Coach! Thanks for making this video! Boxer of about 2 weeks now, and I started my journey with your videos. Before seeing this one, switching my stance and having it squared up close felt pretty intuitive. Glad I wasn't wrong by doing this!
The conventional boxing stance provides greater mobility in all directions but especially in forward and rearward in and out actions.
The more squared stance is favored by mma practitioners and self protection combatives exponents because it's more conducive to combat without parameters of allowable technique and therefore is appropriate for grappling as well as striking. The more squared stance is more limited in forward and rearward positional motion but can be conducive to circular and lateral footwork driven body positional motion.
How hard did you work to say exactly what Fran said but to make it seem like you are some kind of combat scientist?
Fran your videos have helped me out alot with my training keep up the good work brother
That was a great video Fran, bag work was awesome mate, Cheers.
I hope you use the bag more in your demonstrations! It helps so much with it being put in practise. Your my favourite online coach by a mile. Thanks for all your content it’s priceless
Great video! Love your skills beautiful delivery and awesome stance!
These tips are so solid. I have only been boxing a short time but have used my boxing coach almost exclusively in my development. I have a coach at the gym I go to, on Mondays and Saturday, but continue to employee Fran’s lessons and drills during the weekdays. My local coach has been impressed with my improvement in such a short time..he has never once contradicted any of the new tactics. I have surprised his quite a few times while sparring and have heard “where did you learn that”?? Often. Fran is as good as they get...so yourself a favor and watch his “5 favorite online boxing channels” all are great. But I’m sticking with Fran!
Thank you. That's really kind. I'm very happy that you are able to apply this stuff and make it work for you, very cool.
Great video coach! Good stuff

Your transition in your stance delivers some hard blows!!! I love it!!!!! Thank you now I can add that to my knowledge.
Great advice Fran your a super coach . I’ve learnt tons from watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍🏼
I was just teaching this the other day! Mike Tyson is a great example of a fighter who put this into practice
Tyson had unreal Lateral movement though
Thank you very much for this video👍
Ever since i stumbled upon your channel....I have improved a lot for sparring sessions.
thank you for posting! nice technique on the bag too!!
Explains it all in detail and in shortest time possible great advice techniques without making the video too short or too long
Wow you look excellent on the bag fran really impressed!
I missed your videos coach !
Absolutely fantastic advice!
And really good to see you throwing some venom.
Awesome. Thanks Coach
Mobility isn't sacrificed when squaring up if you become more Lateral with your (head and footwork) movement instead. Squaring up is the best stand for said Lateral (head and footwork) movement.
Indeed bro I was looking in the comments to see if this comment would be here and you hit it right on the head bro
Fantastic, learn so much, love this channel.
Thank you 👍
Beautiful! Thanks!
Thanks for the knowledge man.
Didn't even break a sweat. Still got it, coach. I always look forward to your videos.
Great Bag Work Coach!!!
thaks man your video helps a lot
I like inside fighting nice drill Fran I love it 🥊
Really Good job coach! Thank you!
You're the only boxing coach on CZcams that has picked up on this.
You always impress. Well done.
actually there is an american boxing coach who picked up on this and showed how tyson switched stance to southpaw at close range with a near neutral stance in.order to slip straight rights and then counter with body hooks and uppercuts
Michael Mckenna you gotta source ? A video ? I’d love to see it.
I see you Fran sand, you still got it. Keep the videos coming coach!
Thank you for yet another brilliant video, Fran Sands. BTW, that bag took quite a pounding!
Very good idea to work with, many instructors around here don´t teach this.
Thanks man
Ur back coach!
You are one of the most knowledgeable coaches on here. Would be great to train with you. Keep it up coach great content
Dustin Porier does this often in an mma setting also sacrificing mobility squaring his hips risking Possible take downs ... However he pressures in close and switches seemless throwing combinations overwhelming his opponents with power punches
Great video was just explaining this to someone
It’s very much a Muay Thai stance.
Very informative.. nothing beat knowing the basic.
Nice bag work brother! 👊
this is awesome!
Amen bro love your stuff let's not forget la Matto and Duran!
When I started boxing, the trainers are always correcting my stance because I use this squared stance. But, since I am a beginner, I followed their instructions. But then the owner of the gym arrived and became my coach, he was only one that made me do this stance. I was very thankful because my punches became more powerful. It's kinda disappointing that most trainers think of this squared stance as a 'beginner mistake' or something like that.
This guys awesome!!!! Damn!!!! Never would know he's so lethal..... ❤️
Great content!
Great technique coach
Subscribed as soon as I saw you on that bag.
Well explained sir
I notice how you pivot your legs, seems a lot of the power comes from the legs. Both Tyson and Tua threw power punches like that.
Everything comes from the legs.
Anti Schocken no the hips
Anti Schocken both really, pivoting helps with turning the hips
Another awesome video fran 🥊🔥
Thanks Cal👍
Quality instruction here! Thank you 👍😎🇦🇺
Thanks John
Great advice
Great technique!!!!!

Nice work pal
Thats really effective Fran. Thank you for sharing. It seems were a bit slow here to adopt switch techniques unlike the Eastern European and South American countries. It makes such good sense.

Fran where is your gym would love to train there sometime, great vids keep them coming👍
From an ex-MMA fighter pit fighting ....orthodox stance snap 2-3 jabs making him circle to my right, Muy Thai leg kick the closest leg of the opponent, land in south paw stance 2 right hand jabs then the left straight down the pipe.
Shouldn't a waited to watch this one. Great lesson, presentation. Like seeing the appreciative comments.
Great
Greetings Mr sands it seems to me that would work better sillping and rolling as welk as shifting. Since shifting was done in competitive boxing in America until the 1950s although maywether did it as well as many pacwal. But thanks for the videos and God speed
This guy can move!
