The whole Wacken 2013 concert is outstanding and in my opinion the gold-standard of doing a live performance. It is simply legendary. You can't go wrong with any other song of this concert. Believe me, you won't be dissappointed. So I suggest "Dark chest of wonders", "Wish I had an angel", "She is my sin", "Ghost river", "Ever dream", "Storytime", "I want my tears back", "Nemo", "Last of the wilds" (instrumental), "Bless the child", "Romanticide", "Amaranth", ["Ghost love score"], "Song of myself" and "Last ride of the day". Then switch to their concert in her homecountry Finland in Tampere 2015, espacially "Weak fantasy", "Stargazers" and "The greatest show on earth", followed by the concert in Wembly Arena 2015 with "Shudder before the beautiful", "Yours Is an empty hope", "My Walden", "Élan", "7 days to the wolves", "Alpenglow, "The poet and the pendulum", then to Buenos Aires 2018 with "Devil and the deep dark ocean", "Dead boy's poem" ans "Slaying the dreamer"... aso... ✌👌
@OldSkueNerd Marco Hietala, the Warwick exclusive bassist, is an awesome front-man singer in his own right. He has his own side project with a couple recorded albums. Everyone in this band are top notch musicians, and you've yet to meet Troy. You can meet him if you react to Last of the Wilds from the same concert.

8:05 Marco was pretty known in Finland already before his joining to Nightwish, due to his own band called Tarot. They are Finnish metal pioneers and started back in 1982 (he is 54 yo). Marco is the bassist and one of the two singers in the band. He also has a solo album out now. If you want to hear what he is capable of I recommend listening few songs from Tarot (for example Pyre of Gods) or from his solo production (Stones, Voice of my Father).

Just to make sure that this was made clear, while Tuomas adds a lot to the songs, the symphonic sound is mostly coming from backing tracks recorded with the London Philharmonic orchestra and choir.
I'm 64 and have listened to a lot of bands and have seen lots of major concerts. But besides the Beatles the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, I have never bothered to want to know the names of everyone in any other bands. That all changed only a couple of short years ago when i first Heard Nightwish. Not only do I know their names but I know where they come from, where they live and so many other aspects of their life. I want to know what it is that makes all of this unbelievable music happen. Never have I wanted to know so much about any band. I literally cant stop listening to them, and I so much hope I live long enough to see them somewhere in concert. Of course Floors voice has so much to do with all of this but Nightwish is also great without her. Her voice though nothing like it anywhere else on the planet. Yes Tuomas, thanks for the emotions. By the way all the songs will be better than the last but you will always come back to Ghost Love Score because you were introduced to Nightwish with this song.
Next stop: More from Wacken, I would recommend Ghost River, has Marko kinda in the lead.

Fun fact, Marko has been been singing professionally almost as long as Floor has been around. :) You really need to check out some of the stuff that he is the lead on, as well as his solo works, and stuff done in Tarot or with other bands.

Gabriel Bardac is one of the generals of the NW army. He is leading the charge my friend. Nightwish groove but they specialize in the change up. Marco (the bassist) is a real life Viking from Savonia, Finland. Marco can sing. He used to be the lead vocalist for his former band. The key with Nightwish is they don't just do aggressive metal. They do great melodic music in many different shades of Metal to Celtic folk music. Since you love heavy stuff, check out "Yours is an Empty Hope", live from Wembley 2015. Some more heavy stuff. Marko's been in the metal scene for almost forty years! There's an entire Tarot (the band he and his brother started in the 80s) concert on CZcams called Undead Indeed, though the quality is what it is. He's also been a guest vocalist/musician on so many albums that it was a little dizzying already twenty years ago when I first heard him.
Marco indeed has some great vocals. if you want to hear more from him you need to check High hopes(pink floyd cover), islander of while your lips are still red out. great reaction.
Nightwish Army is inbound! You have a hell of a journey ahead of you! You should check out Floor's husband's band Sabaton. He is the drummer for Sabaton and you'll really enjoy them.

In all of the songs mentioned Floor and Marko on vocals together, they complement each other amazingly. Tuomas, the main songwriter of Nightwish, and Marko have co-written these songs, and they are all quite heavy. Some growling by Floor on "Yours Is an Empty Hope". Marko doing mostly clean vocals adding a little grit at times. Powerful combination.

I have to say, that I was not a big Nightwish-Fan before that show, but it changed. Still in my top 3 concerts ever seen, next to Queen in 1986 in Muinich and TOOL last year in Berlin. Greets from Germany! I think you will love "'Song Of Myself" and also "Storytime", but I would like to see your reaction to "Dark Chest Of Wonders", the show opener. They got us from the start...

Marko ( bass player) recently left Nightwish, he brought alot complimentary and lead vocals to the group. Wonder if their next bass player will try to fill his shoes the same way.
haha, loved your shock and awe, you've just begun the journey. But in regards to your liking or wanting the energy of Wacken. Well, I'm pretty sure a lot of that energy you observed was for Nightwish cause you can see how they pump up their fans. And just for an example= The Wacken 2013 had 82,000 there and went from Thur-Sat, and Nightwish was on Sat. Aug. 3rd on the "metal" stage and they were the CLOSING ACT, ha but the crowd doesn't look tired. They were on from 2245-0015, and before them was Anthrax 1700-1815, and then Trivium 1945-2045, and ahead of Nightwish on the "black" stage was Alice Cooper, and on the "party" stage was Candlemass, and yet the crowd wanted more Nightwish, and probably after a song or two, so will you. LOL
Glad you've finally met the Queen! Arguably the most versatile and powerful female voice in the world. As you've already experienced from opera to hard metal and everything in between, you're just scratching the surface of what she's capable of. Agree with Gabriel - Nightwish Live is best - from Wacken 2013 which has ultra hi-quality recording: 1) Storytime, 2) EverDream, 3) Song of Myself - and all the rest from the same concert is jaw-dropping incredible. And there are great operatic vids of her like Phantom of the Opera and so so much more. Anything by Floor Jansen and Nightwish is amazing. :)

Well I certainly agree with the others - but I also want to give you another suggestion, to show you more of Marco (bass). In 2005 Nightwish made a tribute version to Pink Floyd's song "High Hopes" - and that should go right down your alley - it's a brilliant metalized cover, and you get to hear Marco's voice - most Pink Floyd fanatics admits this cover to be brilliant.
Otherwise - Wacken 2013, just check out the the setlist and feel free to ask and we will guide you properly - but you can go wrong - that concert was legendary.

If you want to stay with the Wacken 2013 concert for now, then Ghost River is a good pick considering how you rated this one, and it has some bassist dude vocal action too (his name is Marco btw). Song of Myself is one of my all time favorites from Nightwish, it's a bit more complicated as a composition but overall absolutely solid. It certainly has heaviness, and it's a four part composition of which they played the two middle parts in this live setting.
If you want to check the fantasy route, then Storytime is a song well loved by the fans. Ever Dream is an oldie, it's not quite as heavy and starts to encroach power pop territory at times. Honestly all of them are worth checking out, though. Since you have Gabriel's list pinned all the links can be found there.

Check out "The Islander" at Tempere to see Marco (bass player) take the lead while Floor sings backup. It's a bit of a folky song, in a much more intimate setting.
Definitely an intimate setting! For Marco, and for each and every one of those 20000 members of the audience. And this is without even a slightest smidge of sarcasm!
As a band, Nightwish plays for the song, and since Tuomas is quite particular as to how the songs are supposed to be structured and arranged like, the arrangements are quite detailed. If Tuomas doesn't feel like there needs to be a singing harmony, there isn't one. If he feels there's no need to be a guitar solo, there's not going to be one etc. and everyone works together and understand that song comes first. They have their own thing going one where song structures change a lot depending on what the song needs so you can expect to be surprised.
One thing that Tuomas loves to do is to make a pre-chorus or a "C-section" of a song to a complete musical idea instead of one short part. So if normal song structure is ABABCBBB (B=Chorus) then Tuomas likes to do ABCABCDEFG... etc...back to C (C=Chorus). Or even some times never coming back to that chorus again as in this song where the song ends in completely different thing than it started with.
And that's the great thing about him as a composer, he doesn't do simple and ordinary songs that follow ordinary patterns. :)
Obviously Nightwish has those ABABAB structured songs, but they're not that common. :)
Anything from this Wacken 2013 show is great but I think you’ll like Song of Myself, Storytime, Ghost River, and Everdream. Marko, the bass player, sings quite a bit with the band and even sings lead on a few songs. He also fronts his own band called Tarot, and recently put out a solo album.

When you realise that Nightwish has 3 amazing vocalists, and all sing backing for each other.
Jukka, the drummer, is no longer playing with the band. He went on a hiatus in 2014 due to health reasons. He was battling chronic insomnia. He suggested that the band took in his good friend Kai Hatho (Wintersun) as his replacement. In 2019 Jukka announced that he was not coming back. He's doing a lot better, but does not want to risk anything. Kai was made a permanent member and Jukka is still with the band, in their management team.
For more of Santa's mean older brother check out "Ghost River", Wacken 2013. I also suggest "Slaying the Dreamer" from a much earlier concert, End of an Era (2005), which had Tarja on vocals.
Storytime or Song of Myself should be next from this show.. Storytime is a bit in between but plenty metal for you.. and "Song of Myself" that's just a straight up head bangers challenge.. Really you could pick any track at this show, they are all excellent.. Then there's the Wembley concert. Tampere, Buenos Aires, etc.. As you may have guessed, Nightwish is a live experience.. Which is not a problem, because there has to be about a hundred different Nightwish songs out there on CZcams in an Official live video format recorded from a performance from somewhere in the world..

I think some of them know her from After Forever and Revamp her other two bands. They sound amazing together. Marco was the lead singer for his band Tarot with his brother. He sings lead on a few songs and checkout his solo album.

Nightwish army on the radio in the Netherlands we have the top 2000, they start playing this list on Christmas day till new years, now for years they have a list with most of the same artists and bands, we need to change this, and bring more nightwish in this list, and it would be amazing to bring them as high in the list as possible.
The amazing thing is that everybody can vote all over the world, voting starts on December 1th till December 7th, you can vote on a maximum of 35 songs, hope you agree Wacken (Floor Jansen of course) has the best versions of songs to play on the radio the more we vote the higher nightwish will end up on the list! I suggested some other stuff you might enjoy over on one of your videos from a couple of days ago, but I thought I'd do it on a more recent one
1)Ningen Isu - Japanese metal. Been going since the 80s. (Pronounced Nin-Gen Eesu more or less). It's nice to see someone playing a Gibson other than Angus Young
2) Devin Townsend - prog metal into his own genre, more or less, and a great showman.
3) Ghost/Ghost B.C. - Blue Oyster Cult meets Ozzy. More or less a one man project, with a rotating lineup of Nameless Ghouls.
And since you like Marko's voice - look out his solo project. Both the Finnish and English versions - Voice of My Father and Isäni ääni - are jolly good. Isäni ääni has an acoustic version from a Finnish chat show, if you like acoustics.
If you relly want to hear Marko sing and the quality of his voice listen to The islander Live from Tampere. Nightwish have two epic voices that both have the quality to lead.

By now you must have realized the passion and the power of the army, and considering your thoughts on the band and also Floor's cover, you can consider yourself part of the army as well!
