    The ZR2 is what the trail boss should’ve been. And the ZR2 shoulda taken that and improved on it by adding 35’s, wide body, and adding a supercharged V8.

    It really sucks being a GM guy right now, GM is totally abandoning enthusiasts (a market they've been known for since inception). The electric stuff is nice, but no one can afford it or really wants it. Camaro is a great platform, has wonderful driving dynamics and actually, a well-speced one has a nice interior (better if not on par with Mustang which no one realizes because all you see are 1LT 2.0T cars). No one would know that though because they are do busy marketing the boring XT5 (which has 0 style and is not even close to a GLE or comparable German car). Don't even get me started on why the Traverse even still exists. Blazer should have been a Bronco, current Blazer should have been an equinox. The only GMs knocking it out of the park are C8 and full size SUVs ie. Escalade, Escalade V, Yukon, and Tahoe.The current Silverado update should have come out in 2019 when they got a redesign instead, we got a half assed interior that was both simultaneously uglier and lower quality than the previous one. 3 generation family and frankly none of their new products are resonating with me, suppose all the development money got dumped into Ultium.

People that are going to spend 70K - 90K on a lifestyle pickup will likely just get the Raptor or the TRX. The reason this truck appealed to me is the front and rear locker. I just want nice truck thats comfortable on the highway that can slow roll up the steep muddy hill on my 100 acres and wont get stuck. Raptors around me are 90k where the zr2 is around 75K. Also i park a lot in the city and the raptor is wider. Im still undecided. Heck I would be perfectly happy with my 2018 rebel if it had lockers ...been stuck too many times.

    I don’t think this was made to directly compete with the Raptor and TRX. This ZR2 stands as a middle ground. It has off-roading goodies yet can still be used for truck stuff. It maintains a payload of 1,500 lbs and can tow almost 9,000 lbs. The Raptor on the other hand only has a payload of 1,000 lbs and can tow only around 7,000 lbs. I feel the ZR2 is the all around better deal.

    For most actual offroading in narrower trails and not mall crawling, not having the wide body is an advantage (especially here in colorado). This truck is setup more for crawling / overlanding and not baja racing. At 70k, it is basically fully loaded where as the Raptor and TRX would be at least 10-30k more when equipped similarly. I just wish it had the diesel as an option.

      I never understood these full sized offroad trucks because they make so many compromises like towing and payload, MPG, handling on road, etc. When they are not really good at offroading and now are not nearly as good on road where they will be used most. I think they are more of a status symbol because you would be way better off saving 20-30k and buying a side by side and a trailer.

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 Před 2 lety

      That's really the one and only area the ZR2 outshines the Raptor is that the ZR2 sounds better when you drive spiritedly, but the Raptors performance is still better across the board. I do wish Ford had offered the 5.0L Coyote V8 as an option in the regular Raptors. The Raptor R will likely cost a boatload more money just for its exotic engine alone but then you add dealer markups like they are doing these days and it'll cost as much as an entry level supercar.

    My brother has a friend who is a avid fisherman and he had been pulling his bass boat with a Chevy with a 6.2. He needed a new truck and went with the Ford with the boosted V6 that had better power numbers than his Chevy had. The problem is that when he pulled his boat the Ford got between 5 to 10 mpg worse than the Chevy did and it seemed to struggle to pull his boat where the Chevy acted like it wasn't pulling anything. I think that this is where the boosted V6s are aren't going to match up to an old school V8.
