Sawani Shende is a Hindustani Classical Artist born in a musically rich family. She was introduced to Indian Classical Music at a tender age of only six by her grandmother, Smt.Kusum Shende, a noted singer of the Kirana Gharana and an honored artist of the Sangeet Natak Era. Sawani’s father, Dr.Sanjeev Shende, a disciple of Smt.Shobha Gurtu, has groomed her in semi-classical genres like Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, etc. Sawani’s music is a beautiful soul searching combination of the Kirana and the Gwalior Gharana, where she mesmerizes audiences with enchanting melody and strength of both. Her confidence and mastery in Khayals, her crystal clear diction and overall sensitivity in presentation takes every performance to a very high aesthetic level.

Vid. Sawani ji is an absolute perfectionist, having known since childhood what all perfections are required in all musical works required. This perfection is imbibed in her philosophy and she is passionate. Her spiritual and aesthetic sense is beyond match and she happens to be the only younger generation person who has ideology and maturity of a person with an elderly generation. She is at pinnacle of the Hindusthani classical but yet appreciate all aspects of music or sounds including light music. Perhaps this is an universal outlook one should have in life. Thanks for the wonderful interview & sharing it on public media.

सावनीचे गाणे हा प्रज्ञेचा आणि भावनाविष्काराचा परिपाक आहे असे मला वाटते. इतक्या लहान वयात ज्या प्रगल्भतेने ती गाते त्याबद्दल तिचे मनापासून कौतुक करावेसे वाटते. तिच्या समृद्ध अशा गाण्यात वीणाताईंच्या गायकीचाही प्रत्यय येतो. तिची स्वरवाटचाल अशीच पुढे अधिकाधिक उत्तुंग टप्पे गाठूदे हीच सदिच्छा!
