    Enjoyed watching this build tutorial..very well done. Beautiful knife, The only thing I do different is to peen the pins after the epoxy is put on. I find this allows the pins to tighten the scales and fill their holes tightly so there is never a gap when they are sanded off and the scales finished.

    I love all your ideas 💡

    • @zeemanknives
      @zeemanknives  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you, appreciate the comment. Yes you can use black epoxy...it produces very nice results. Just make sure your pattern only sits within the handle area then. In my case the pattern stretches the entire length of the blade, and covering up the spine with black epoxy would look incomplete.

  • @Barncat01
    @Barncat01 Před 11 měsíci

    Turned out great!! Love the file work! I've been experimenting with peening brass handle pins and I feel like I'm either not doing enough or doing way to much and end up cracking the handle material. How much pin you leave sticking out of the handle before you start to drive them down to ensure they lock the handle down on both sides??

    • @zeemanknives
      @zeemanknives  Před 11 měsíci

      Thank you, appreciate you taking the time to watch. So the best thing to do is to practice by peening two pieces of scrap wood together, and see how much peening is needed to lock the scales in place. A good rule of thumb I follow is to leave the same amount sticking out, as what the thickness of the pins are...in other words, if you are using 3mm pins, leave 3mm sticking out. Wood is fairly forgiving with over peening, but synthetics tend to create ugly marks when over peened...so do a practice run on offcuts before moving over to the knife. Hope this helps!

    Hello, i have a question, how you can get a clean metal surface when you are shaping the handle on grinder? When i try on my blade the metal inside handle is scratch always and i try to re-clean metal parts. İs there a easy way to not scratch metal when shaping handle?

    • @zeemanknives
      @zeemanknives  Před rokem

      Hi...yes, i wrap the blade with tissue paper, and then wrap it again with masking tape. Cover all the metal areas, then you can shape the handle. You have to use tissue paper first, because dust particles get stuck on the glue of the tape and can cause hairline scratches. Hopes this helps!

      @@zeemanknives if you let me i have another question, how you can shape wooden handle without scratch handle metal after you stick woods? Because metal is scratching with any touch during shaping wood in grinding machine.

    • @zeemanknives
      @zeemanknives  Před rokem

      @@BarisBaydur Sorry so I misunderstood your first question for the second question then. When my profile is finished, and the bevels are ground, I clamp the knife down and hand sand the handles to about 200 grit. The handles does not have to be the same grit as the blade. Then I flip the blade around, and hand sand the blade up to the grit I want it. This is usually around 600-800 grit. Use a piece of offcut leather between the metal and the clamp to prevent the clamp from scratching the metal. You have to finish the blade part completely, then tape it up with tissue paper and tape, glue on your handle scales and shape the handle while keeping the blade taped up.

      Für das Video habe ich 5160 verwendet. Aber Sie können für diesen Messertyp wirklich jede Art von Kohlenstoffstahl verwenden. Verwenden Sie den dünneren Stahl, 3 mm, um eine wirklich scharfe Schneidkante zu erzielen. Ich hoffe, Google übersetzt das richtig. :) :)

      It is a magnet. I test the temperature of the steel using a magnet. When steel reaches critical temperature, it does not stick to the magnet anymore...then you know it is ready to quench in the oil to harden.
