- Malnourished Texas twins escaped handcuffs when boy found key and hid it in his mouth overnight, court records say. The 15-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, said they were handcuffed in a laundry room. The 15 year old twin boy who found the key to the restraints said the two waited to make their escape until their mother and her boyfriend were sleeping, according to court documents filed in Harris County. The documents allege that the teens went through months of abuse beginning in July at the hands of their mother, Zaikiya Duncan & her live in boyfriend, Jova Terrell.

Amazing. She took them in and mothered them instantly. She gave them blankets,fed them, protected them and most of all listened to them. In five minutes she showed more compassion than those poor babies had probably ever experienced from that monster in a lifetime. She listened to her intuition and I really do think God was with them. Those two babies are the real heros though. They risked their lives for themselves and their siblings.

I cannot handle children or animals suffering I can't handle it. How somebody could do this to children is beyond any comprehension I could ever possibly have
The neighbors that turned them away probably felt horrible when this story broke. This case is so sickening. I hope those kids recover from the trauma.
Right. So heartbreaking. Even if they didn't initially trust the kids. They could have at least spoken to them through the door and handed clothing or blankets through windows and called the cops and told the kids to hide in their backyard or something until cops arrived. You know, like if they were too scared to let them in their house, there were still things they could have done to help them at the bare minimum. Even if the kids were lying, a set of clothes and a couple blankets lost is worth it for peace of mind.
And by me saying even if the kids were lying, I'm not referring to the kids in this video, just saying in general terms. You know.
I was thinking hard about that...even now...I don't think I would have opened the door either. Not at night for 2 "teenage boys" that I don't know or don't recognize. I wouldn't. I have small kids. I live in a middle class neighborhood without all of these amenities but still know that people who perceive we have money WILL try to prey on our homes and cars.
I would be scared to open my door! For anyone in the middle of the night. But I would have called 911 for them. Good or bad, I would have called 911. I'm sure I would have felt horrible later but my kids and my family first.
Sadly, we live in a world where despicable people will send kids or women looking pregnant or emotional to knock on doors, and then when the door is opened, they get robbed or abused - all manner of things. Happens alot in the UK. So people aren't as trusting anymore. Obviously, this is america, but I am sure people are just as distrusting. It is sad.
Personally, I've leant out the top window when random people knock so that I can help if required.
@@haleyguthrie3113 those people who didn’t open the door didn’t give af. They shouldn’t let them in but they could’ve called the cops. Had they been white you know they would’ve responded differently probably even let them in.
Although this case is incredibly horrific, tragic and what these children endured is absolutely dispicable, this is also a story of human perseverance.. the twins having the courage to escape and ultimately save themselves as well as save the other children. I am so proud of those children for simply surviving. Am a grown man and am crying as I hear this story. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏾
That's a great point and a triumph to their horrible suffering. I can't imagine wanting to hurt a child especially your own babies that look to you to fiercely protect and love them. My heart breaks for all those kids too. 💜

The women who had the balls to open the door and do what any good person would do, I swear I'd give her a hug
I mean Jesus, they were children, I can not believe, so many turned them away looking so frail half-dressed in the cold, they could have at least called 911.
They could have at least handed them some blankets and clothing through a window, told them to hide in their backyard or something and call the police.
Notice it's the most vulnerable one, the single mom, who let them in. Good person.
There are so many schemes to get people to open their doors. Predatory people will use children, the elderly, to get people to let their guards down. It’s very hard to trust others these days, even children. They may have an evil adult putting them up to this so they can get easy access.
I completely understand not wanting to let strangers into your home due to a number of home invasions that are under the ruse of needing help, but GOD BLESS THAT SINGLE MOM SHE FELT THAT IN HER GUT AS A MOTHER , and I hope that she gets the good karma she deserves 10 fold 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

That neighbor was smart. She saw 2 skinny, young kids who weren’t dressed appropriately for cold weather. She yanked them inside & quickly shut & locked her door. Thank God for her!!
I can understand not opening the door. But please, please, please tell me every single person who didn't open the door DID call 911. There is no mention of that. There is only mention of the woman who helped calling the Sheriff's office. I understand playing it safe and protecting your own home, but that neighborhood should have been swarming with police after that first door bell rang.

Every time I hear a story about parents abusing their own children in any way, I struggle to understand the why. How can you look at the child you gave birth to, and then harm them so terribly. This is next level torture.

Harm or not love someone who came from you. Literally out your body , created, carried and was a part that gentle taking their 1st breath of LIFE. Like frfr , you have to be a sick individual to be able to live with yourself .
It's pure EVIL from the pits of Hell. No other explanation but demonic influence. Our FIRST instinct as human beings is to protect our young; regardless if it's your blood or not. This is abnormal.
Because not everyone is suitable to be a parent and we have normalized that mothers have unconditional love, when this isn’t true. It’s fairly normal behavior pattern for parents to not like their children or parenthood. What’s not normal or even a tiny bit okay is abusing the children. This is where I get caught up because I’m trying to figure out why they don’t place the children somewhere else, I’m not sure how giving away to adoption or foster system works, though. Maybe it’s expensive or too complicated. No idea. It just breaks my hearts the kids have to experience this type of mother…
In a lot of these cases, aside from being a sadistic psychopath, I think it's because they hate the kid's father. The kids look like and remind her of the man who left her, so she takes it out on them. She sees them as a burden, probably only had them to keep the man around anyway, and if they didn't keep the man in her life, what good are they? (according to this devilish thinking). Too many people unfit to be parents, they're just selfish barbarians.

I love how the lady that let them in doesn't even want to be shown... she doesn't want to be the famous hero that is celebrated by everyone, she just wanted to do the right thing. May God deal with the abusers exactly how they deserve to be dealt with and He is sufficient as a witness.

I understand why people didn’t open the door. I recommend calling police for people asking for help and not putting yourself at risk. I also don’t recommend going into anyone’s home because not all people have good intentions. It’s a sad world sometimes
Yes you read my mind exactly it's understandable not to open the door to strangers looking out of place knocking at your door in the middle of the night all you have to do is from the police and explain the situation that way you're safe and they're safe

I had a conversation with a friend about these kids after we say it on the news. We both understood why people didn’t let them in the house. What I don’t understand is why they didn’t atleast call the cops for help. If they were worried, they could have told the kids to hide in the backyard until the cops come. What I think about is what if the parents would have found them knocking on people’s door. Then, they may have ended up dead. So, thank God for the brave and wise woman who helped them.

I more than likely would have opened the door because I’m just that kind of person and I dare someone to try and scam us to break in to my house….But on that note if I were home alone with my baby and I was truly skeptical I would have told them to hide in the backyard I would have put some blankets and food outside til the police
That's what I was thinking. I can understand not opening the door, you have no idea these days, but I would have called the police because if they're causing trouble then you need to call, and if they need help then you need to call. Either way, police needed to be called when 2 half clothed kids are walking around a neighborhood going door to door asking for help.

I’m glad not only someone opened the door but that the right person opened the door. Not everyone deserves to be a parent but unfortunately anyone can have a child. It’s such a blessing and a gift. Children are precious and need to be protected. Especially by their own Mama. I hope they’re together and they didn’t separate them.

I’m from Houston and never heard about this until now. Cypress is about 25min from my house. This is absolutely heartbreaking I’m so glad they were able to escape and I hope the other 5 children are being well taken care of.

It's classic in abuse cases. The boy called it caught all the abuse until he was removed then a new child caught her rage.

This happens a lot...the abusers will fight for custody of their children, because they see those kids as their property...things that they OWN...and they think they have a right to abuse them and do all sorts of horrible things to them. My "mother" fought for me for years...because she didn't want to lose the person she took out all her bad days/feelings on. I was metaphorically the puppy she liked to kick when she was feeling p!ssy. She couldn't treat anyone else like that...because they would just walk away from her...but as a minor, and her biological child, I was stuck. I couldn't even leave the house without her permission, or she could report me as a runaway, and have the police track me down and drag me back! So THAT'S why these horrible "parents" want custody of their kids...and why they have kids in the first place...to have little people who are completely dependent on them, that they can freely abuse, who have no escape, no recourse, and will generally not be believed if they try to tell anyone they are being abused.

This story reminded me of the House of Horrors with the Turpin family, they lived in Texas for a lil bit just down the road from where my husband and I lived and we actually saw the parents in town one day by themselves. Had no idea there was 12 or 13 kids back at a trailer in the country starving to death. This story absolutely makes me mad as a mama myself, I hope she gets the book thrown at her. I pray that these kiddos make a full recovery. Some people should not be allowed to have kids. Bless the babies. ❤️

Absolutely! I watch some families on CZcams and I see comments about you are the greatest Mom, wife, etc and it's always perfect stuff! I always think, how can you say say that from daily 30 second videos? Being positive and uplifting is one thing but these aren't those kind of comments. People don't remember that we only see what people on social media wants us to see!

Well look at the last family that this happened to. CPS took all the kids and the parents were arrested but then the children were continuously abused even worse in their Foster houses. This system is so flawed
Never underestimate the lengths an abusive parent will go to in order to fool the world about what happens in their walls. The coaching of the children, the threats, the all out facade . My mothers favourite line was “Hear all, see all, say fk all…you do not talk about what happens within my walls”. And it worked effectively . I’m so glad these kids took the chance and got out of there. I hope their lives going forward will be only love and healing, far far from that nasty situation 💙

I live in this general area. I remember when the local news outlet showed the ring footage and talked about the story. At the time I was upset that no one helped them sooner but in the same thought I realized how dangerous it would be to allow a stranger into your home without knowing their intentions.
I’m glad that woman took them in and helped them. I hope these poor kids get the help that they need to heal. 😔

You can’t blame the folks that didn’t open the doors BUT you could physically see they weren’t playing, their physical health was obviously they needed help BUT that fear for the home owners would still be there I’m just thankful someone took that chance and got them to safety, I pray that all the kids get placed into good loving homes ❤

With so many people wanting to have children and can’t for different reasons, I will never ever understand hurting children or anyone, its not that hard to be a good person

I heard of this horrific case right after the twins escaped. I praise God for that single mama answering her door! These children need justice. I pray for their recovery and healing.
Poor kids! I hope she gets prosecuted to the fullest extent! I hope these kids receive kindness and love for the rest of their lives, they must be so broken! My heart hurts for them
I hope these children can find some love in their lives going forward. And thankfull for the lady who gave them shelter & got them food and help.
How did they go to school and not be seen ???

The story actually brought me to tears, many of the stories involving children always break my heart. This woman and her boyfriend should be locked up and the key thrown away, shame on her.
I’m not a mom but I can’t imagine being a Mom doing this to your own children or any child, it breaks my heart what happens to these poor kids, a lot of kids go through this and we must protect them at all costs before it gets even worse!
I am a mum and I couldn’t even think of hurting my daughter she’s 27 now but I don’t know how anyone can hurt children 🏴

Some people are just evil. I'm so happy they got out and were able to get help for themselves as well as their siblings. "Brave" is an understatement. Well done
It’s scary. I feel awful for these babies. How does a mother not love and nurture her child - it’s pure evil. I’d like to think I would open my door but would be scared. I’d have to trust my gut in the moment. I’m so glad they were brave enough to seek help.

As a parent, I literally started to tear up. I just can't imagine. I don't understand how anyone could ever do this. Heck when I have a stern conversation with my son, I get upset because he may have cried or got sad. To physically hurt a child, starve, etc. I can't imagine. I wish I could just hug these poor kids and tell them they are enough. Worthy and loved. Thank you for covering this

While I understand the people who didn't open the door for fear of their own safety, I really admire the mama who saw two hurting children, and didn't hesitate to help 💚 she should be proud, as should these two brave little angels
I thank any inmate that takes care of anyone that hurts children. If I were a guard I would definitely turn a blind eye. She deserves everything and anything coming to her.
I can totally understand why people didn't answer the door, you just never know. So glad these kids are finally getting help
I have 6 children. The youngest is 18. I think back over the years about things I could have done differently. After seeing this and other cases, I am an amazing parent. I want to hug these children and feed them.
Yes, I live nearby. It was in our local news. And it absolutely disgusts me. My heart breaks for this children. Prayers for them.
I'm a Houston native and cypress is only minutes away from me. Its bittersweet but I'm so glad these children are being helped by protective services. It's a ashame they were deprived of what should have been a protective caring mother. My heart breaks for them. No baby should experience that sort of hate or neglect at the hands of their mother. Shame.
