  • We have Dr. James White on to talk about Mormonism! On this episode we respond to some comments made by the "3 Mormons" channel. Mormonism teaches that men and women can become gods and goddesses of their own planets. The "3 Mormons" try to defend that teaching in one of their videos.

zen 101 Well, there's a lot of crazy out there, just know that you CAN trust the Bible. Do some research there, on the manuscript tradition of the New Testament, learn about the Dead Sea Scrolls, which contained the entire book of Isaiah, and was centuries older than any writing we'd had before then, yet was 99%+ identical to later writings, etc, all of these things means that what Mormonism told you about how the Bible had been misinterpreted, how parts were missing, etc, is just wrong. God said his word would be preserved, and it has been. None of the councils ever decided what books to include in the Bible, those councils were called to refute heresy. There is a list of the books of the Bible that dates from the first century that is nearly identical to what we use today, it cuts off at the last end or it probably would be. So stick to the Bible, not what men say, and pray if you are unsure, the Holy Spirit is faithful to illuminate the true meaning of the Scriptures. If you are careful to read things IN CONTEXT (because Mormonism is notorious for cherry picking verses, taking them out of context, changing the meaning), the scriptures are not mysterious or difficult to understand for the vast majority of people. That is why there is such AGREEMENT on the core, important, saving issues among the body of Christ. We differ on peripheral, non-salvation issues that usually arose from different traditions, cultures, regional practices, etc. Don't get caught up in those, stay centered in the Bible and you won't go wrong. Galations is a great book that has the real gospel, they were veering away, trying to include circumcision as a requirement of salvation, Paul set them straight. Even that one small work cannot be added, or else you are placed under the curse of the entire law, and Jesus died for nothing. That is the message of grace that is important for exMormons, Jesus did it ALL, there is nothing we can add. Welcome to the love and grace of the true Jesus, I wish you all the hope and peace that comes with the decision you have made, it was without doubt the right one. God bless.

Me too, my eyes were opened after 35 yrs. devout LDS. I got on my knees and begged God to show me truth and He did.
      I now know the Lord.
Finding a new church to be a part of is one of the most difficult tasks I've ever done.
I sit alone in a new church, nobody speaks, Pastors don't acknowledge you're visiting or if rarely they do, they have no idea what to do with me.
I don't live out west where transition assistance is available so God bless this ministry.

You may have to visit a few until you find your home church. Look for one in which the pastor is very faithful to the Word. That should be the priority and the other things will fall in place. Blessings!

There's a lot to say about this but for sake of the comment section, I'll make it short. First off, when you first talk to the missionaries, they don't paint the whole picture. They don't tell you jesus wasn't born by the spirit but by physical sex (according to Brigham young, this is on the very first volume of J&D). They also don't tell you that God the Father, God the son and God the HOly spirit are all separate gods. AND that God was once a man. And that God the Father has a bride, God the mother... so of course you can investigate and come to conclusion of this. Are you telling me I can't investigate Islam(Jesus Christ) and say that church is false or does that only apply to LDS Jesus ?

@Lopez ''they don't paint the whole picture.'' Do you seriously expect that you'd be taught the WHOLE PICTURE of Mormonism (Jesus Christ) with just some missionary discussions? By the way, this ''They don't tell you'' crap is a ploy that was started by the ANTI-MORMON CHRISTIAN BIGOTS to draw the attention away from the FACT that they know too much about Mormonism to be a non-Mormon. Somewhere in the latter ninety or the early 2000's the anti-Mormon christian pukes got to realizing that they themselves KNOW TOO MUCH about Mormonism to be a non-Mormon, so therefore as a way to keep people from coming to find out about this they started going around saying crap like ''The Mormons don't tell you this, the Mormons don't tell you that'' to DRAW THE ATTENTION AWAY from the FACT that they themselves know too much about Mormonism to be a non-Mormon!

All of these perversions of the Word and message starting with the Catholic Church all the way to this new "God just loves" movement is happening for a reason. They want the power God has. Since the beginning of time since Adam and Eve humans have grasped at that power and control. God has not changed. He did reveal Himself in the bible, and we have tried to hijack it.
And anti God people have been trying to deny it.

His book was a fictionalized account based on HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of hours of discussions with Mormons and Mormon missionaries at Temple Square and elsewhere. I believe the reason for the change in elder at the end of the book is based on real life situations when the current elder gets to emotionally attached to the proselyte, and/or the elder is starting to be in danger of losing their testimony in light of what they are learning from the Christian.
Typically, Mormons don't let such discussions get that involved or to go that long, if they get any kind of resistance, or feel that the person is attempting to "teach" them, they simply bear their testimony and skedaddle.

Interesting observation made by fellow Christian, Cody Laumeister:
"I remember this point in the debate and thinking 1) I never thought I'd root for a Mormon in a debate, just shows you the (dubious) power of Calvinism, and 2) as soon as Kwaku got James and Jeff busy defending Calvinism, rather than attacking Mormonism, Kwaku was now winning the debate, despite the absolute indefensibility of Mormon origins and doctrine. This is especially comical given how James and Jeff, before the debate, were musing how the debate would be such an unfair fight, given what badass Christian apologists they "obviously" were, that they (almost) felt guilty inviting poor little Kwaku into the lion's den, as it were. So how did Kwaku pull off this wildly successful judo move? Easy, just disparage Calvinist dogma casually but directly, and James and Jeff, even with all their considerable debating skill, cannot help but take the bait. Once they do, they're on the defensive and under Kwaku's control, no matter how wrong they think Kwaku is. It's like waving a red cape in front of a bull -- the bull can't help going after the cape, thinking here's an easy kill, which takes his eyes off the matador. From that point on the bull is doomed, despite his deadly horns and weight advantage, because the matador has a sword in his other hand, and it's the sword that will kill him; the cape is just an act of misdirection that the matador knows will consume the bull's fury and attention. The matador, having a human brain, can learn how a bull thinks, while the bull will always be just a bull, and can never know all that the matador is thinking. Maybe Kwaku just stumbled into this strategic move, but he's a quick study, and now he knows how a Calvinist will behave when provoked, while the Calvinists simply continue to respond like Calvinists, and learn nothing. Of course, Kwaku is just as vulnerable on Mormonism, more so in fact; but as long as they're talking Calvinism, Kwaku is the matador. And it's only a matter of time before he locates the bull's vulnerable spot and drives the sword home. When I imply that the bulls, James and Jeff, have learned nothing, I say that based on the fact that they put the debate video up after the fact for public consumption. Clearly they would never have done this if they realized what fools Kwaku made of them at this point in the debate. Presumably they thought they "schooled" little Kwaku on "purposeless evil" and "God's decree", etc. But anyone, including Kwaku, whose mind is not held captive to the TULIP systematic, is perfectly free to blame evil on the evildoers, and allow God, who is not the author of evil, to bring good out of man's evil when and how He chooses, and thus demonstrate the redemptive nature of His sovereignty. If God's sovereignty can ONLY work thru meticulous prearranged control of all things, what need is there of redemptive action on God's part? If it's all God's doing, why must God redeem anything He has already done? If the Holocaust is the result of God's decree, and God is good, then there is no injustice in the Holocaust in need of God's redemptive love and justice. OK, says the Calvinist, but the Nazis were acting "freely" out of compatibilistic freedom, so they're responsible, right? Maybe, but given their totally depraved "nature", which as creatures must have come from God, after all, they're also morally incapable of acting otherwise; whereas God alone acts from perfect freedom. So who's more responsible for the Holocaust? If you think this is all abstract theologizing, go over to the SGM Survivors site and read some of the horror stories from CJ Mahaney's Sovereign Grace churches once they went Calvinistic. One female survivor of continual childhood sexual abuse was "comforted" by one of Mahaney's disciples with the words, "Isn't it comforting to know that whatever happened to you was God's plan, and that it was better than you deserved?" That's street-level Calvinism, folks, stripped of nuance and philosophical equivocation. That "counselor," an older woman no less, imbibed Calvinism and simply applied it consistently to the matter at hand. I'm sure James White would protest that the counselor lacked a "full-orbed" understanding of God's decree; I think that means she's not smart enough to hold several incoherent assertions in mind at the same time; it takes a brilliant theologian, like James White, to do that."

The one thing I wrestle with is predestination. Though I know God being the alpha and omega sees all things, we know that in scripture (Exodus 32:14) God's mind can be changed. If God's mind can be changed, then how can predestination exist? God is all powerful and not even time can contain his authority.

    • @fayelewis5476
      @fayelewis5476 Před 4 lety +1

      "Does God change His mind?"
Answer: Malachi 3:6 declares, “I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” Similarly, James 1:17 tells us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Numbers 23:19 is clear: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?” Based on these verses, no, God does not change. God is unchanging and unchangeable. He is also all-wise. So He cannot “change His mind” in the sense of realizing a mistake, backtracking, and trying a new tack.
How then do we explain verses that seem to say that God does change His mind? Verses such as Genesis 6:6, “The LORD was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was filled with pain.” Also, Exodus 32:14 proclaims, “Then the LORD relented and did not bring on His people the disaster He had threatened.” These verses speak of the Lord “repenting” or “relenting” of something and seem to contradict the doctrine of God’s immutability.
Another passage that is often used to show that God changes His mind is the story of Jonah. Through His prophet, God had told Nineveh He would destroy the city in forty days (Jonah 3:4). However, Nineveh repented of their sin (verses 5-9). In response to the Assyrians’ repentance, God relented: “He had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction He had threatened” (verse 10).
There are two important considerations involving the passages that say God changed His mind. First, we can say statements such as “the LORD was grieved that He had made man on the earth” (Genesis 6:6) are examples of anthropopathism (or anthropopatheia). Anthropopathism is a figure of speech in which the feelings or thought processes of finite humanity are ascribed to the infinite God. It’s a way to help us understand God’s work from a human perspective. In Genesis 6:6 specifically, we understand God’s sorrow over man’s sin. God obviously did not reverse His decision to create man. The fact that we are alive today is proof that God did not “change His mind” about the creation.
Second, we must make a distinction between conditional declarations of God and unconditional determinations of God. In other words, when God said, “I will destroy Nineveh in forty days,” He was speaking conditionally upon the Assyrians’ response. We know this because the Assyrians repented and God did not, in fact, mete out the judgment. God did not change His mind; rather, His message to Nineveh was a warning meant to provoke repentance, and His warning was successful.
An example of an unconditional declaration of God is the Lord’s promise to David, “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever” (2 Samuel 7:16). There is no qualification expressed or implied in this declaration. No matter what David did or did not do, the word of the Lord would come to pass.
God tells us of the cautionary nature of some of His declarations and the fact that He will act in accordance with our choices: “If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it. Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions’” (Jeremiah 18:7- 11). Note the conditional word if: “If that nation I warned repents [like Assyria in Jonah 3] . . . then I will relent.” Conversely, God may tell a nation they will be blessed, but “if it does evil in my sight [like Israel in Micah 1] . . . then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do.”
The bottom line is that God is entirely consistent. In His holiness, God was going to judge Nineveh. However, Nineveh repented and changed its ways. As a result, God, in His holiness, had mercy on Nineveh and spared them. This “change of mind” is entirely consistent with His character. His holiness did not waver one iota.
The fact that God changes His treatment of us in response to our choices has nothing to do with His character. In fact, because God does not change, He must treat the righteous differently from the unrighteous. If someone repents, God consistently forgives; if someone refuses to repent, God consistently judges. He is unchanging in His nature, His plan, and His being. He cannot one day be pleased with the contrite and the next day be angry with the contrite. That would show Him to be mutable and untrustworthy. For God to tell Nineveh, “I’m going to judge you,” and then (after they repent) refuse to judge them may look like God changed His mind. In reality, God was simply staying true to His character. He loves mercy and forgives the penitent. “Has God forgotten to be merciful?” (Psalm 77:9). The answer is, no.
At one time we were all enemies of God due to our sin (Romans 8:7). God warned us of the wages of sin (Romans 6:23) in order to cause us to repent. When we repented and trusted Christ for salvation, God “changed His mind” about us, and now we are no longer enemies but His beloved children (John 1:12). As it would be contrary to God’s character to not punish us had we continued in sin, so it would be contrary to His character to punish us after we repent. Does our change of heart mean that God changes? No, if anything, our salvation points to the fact that God does not change, because had He not saved us for the sake of Christ, He would have acted contrary to His character.

Chrissy J “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-3, 10, 14‬ ‭ESV‬‬
So the way to think of it is this.
The doctrine of the Trinity is built on three foundations:
      1. Monotheism-there is only ONE God, Yahweh
      2. There are three divine persons- the scriptures demonstrate that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are distinct from each other.
      3. Co-eternal/Co-equal- the scriptures demonstrate that each person shares 100% in the being of the eternal Yahweh.
We are talking about three who's and one what.
So through the incarnation the Trinity was revealed. Yahweh, the God of Israel, took on flesh (a tent) and became the living, breathing Tabernacle (the Tabernacle of Moses is the foreshadowing of the incarnation).
In the beginning Jesus existed, Jesus was with God AND Jesus is God (the Trinity). Jesus was in the beginning with God.
      The Word became flesh (Tabernacle).

      @fayelewis5476 Před 5 lety +1

Jesus was 100% God and 100% man.
It is okay to pray to Jesus and God because Jesus is God in flesh. Biblically speaking, God is a Trinity consisting of three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It's like saying that time is one thing that consists of three aspects or parts: the past, the present, and the future. So we would say that time is one thing with three "parts." God is a Trinity. The Trinity is three parts, and one of those parts became flesh. John 1:1, says "in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In John 1:14 it says that "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…" This means that Jesus has two natures, God and man. Therefore, we can pray to God the Father, we can pray to the Holy Spirit, and we can pray to the person of Jesus because they are all in one God.
Jesus is prayed to in the Bible. We see in 1 Corinthians 1:2 it says, "to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours." I underlined the phrase that is relevant here. The New Testament was written in Greek, and in Greek what it says is...
epikaloumenois to onoma tou kuriou hamon iasous kristou
calling upon the name of the lord of us Jesus Christ
Around 250 BC the Jews translated the Old Testament into Greek. The Old Testament phrases such as "call upon the name of YHWH" were translated into "call upon the name of the Lord." YHWH consists of four consonants that are used in the Hebrew Old Testament to designate the name of God. When the Old Testament talked about "calling upon the name of YHWH" it meant among other things, to pray to God (Psalm 116:4). Paul the apostle used the Greek equivalent of the Old Testament phrase in relationship to Jesus.
Therefore, it is biblical to pray to Jesus.
Finally, all false religions refuse to pray to Jesus, because to them Jesus is not God in flesh. But, we also see that Jesus said in John 14:14, "Ask me anything in my name and I will do it." So, Jesus is telling us it's okay to pray to him.

When we are praying, do we pray directly to God or through Jesus?
      by Jacob Allee
The answer to the given question is “Yes” and “Yes” but allow me to elaborate on that a bit. When Jesus taught his disciples how they ought to pray in Matthew 6:9-13 he instructed them to pray to “Our Father in heaven.”
9Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread, 12and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
So it was Jesus Himself, God in flesh (John 1:1-14), who told us that we should raise our prayers directly to God, namely, God the Father. The Bible teaches that God has existed eternally as one being in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This doctrine is known as the Trinity. This is why Jesus can both be God and still pray to God (e.g. John 17) because while they share the same being they are different in person.
Each person of the Trinity plays different roles in how they interact in the lives of believers and unbelievers alike. When it comes to our given topic of prayer, the Bible teaches that it is God the Father whom we ought to direct our prayers to, but it also teaches that it is through Jesus that we have that kind of direct access to the Father. Consider the verse in Mark 15:38; “And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” This “curtain” is the one that separated people from the Holy of Holies (aka “The Most Holy Place”) in the temple, the place where God’s presence dwelled in a special sense. The Holy of Holies was the place where once a year a priest would enter after having carefully observed all of the purification rituals that were required before entering into God’s presence and make a sacrifice for the unintentional sins of the people of Israel (intentional or known sins were to be dealt with on a regular basis). The curtain was torn in two by God at the time of Jesus’ death on the cross. Hebrews 9:1-14 tells us how through Christ’s death we no longer are separated from God by the curtain.
1Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. 2 For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence. It is called the Holy Place. 3 Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, 4 having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. 5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. 6 These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, 7 but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. 8 By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing 9 (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, 10 but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation. 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
This passage explains that in the Old Covenant, under the law, the priest had to continually offer sacrifices again and again for the people of Israel because the sacrifices were imperfect, they never actually fully appeased God’s wrath for sin, hence the need to repeat the sacrifice. Jesus, however, was the perfect lamb of God (John 1:29; 36), the sinless one, He was the perfect sacrifice that God was pleased with. When Christ died on the cross and the curtain was torn that separated the people from the Most Holy Place in the temple this indicated that man no longer needed to approach God through priests and through repetitive sacrifices. It is in Christ that we have a perfect sacrifice, and it was paid once and in full! Just as it says in Hebrews 10:12-14:
“12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”
Jesus became our high priest before God, always making intercession for us. It is because of this Jesus’ sacrifice that the New Covenant was ushered in (Luke 22:20) and we now no longer depend on earthly priests to come before God for us, but through Christ, we may directly and boldly approach God’s throne with our prayers. Again in Hebrews 7:23-27 it says:
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. 26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.
So as to the original question, “When we are praying do we pray directly to God or through Jesus?” Again, the answer is yes, we pray directly to God the Father because that is what Jesus taught us to do, and yes we pray through Jesus because He is our high priest who has given us direct access to God the Father by His sacrifice and He is now interceding on our behalf before the Father. So when it comes to praying, Hebrews 4:14-15 says it best:
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
As Christians, we pray to God our Father because He is the provider of all good things (James 1:17; Matthew 7:7-11), and we pray in Jesus’ name because He is the one who makes it possible to approach God because His blood has covered our sins.

I've used this explanation of the trinity that seems to make sense to a lot of people. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Here it is:
The trinity can be thought of as a family. Lets call this family the Smiths. Let's say the smiths family is made up of 3 members. Father, mother and son.
So there is ONE family, but 3 persons who make up the family. Each one is 100% a family member, yet there is only one family.
So no one would call each member a separate family of its own. It's easy to see that the 3 persons make up one family.
Similarly, there is only one God, yet 3 persons. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

You can watch Matthew Dillahunty's debate with Jordan Peterson. But It doesn't matter where it comes from. The fact that you can recognise that slavery and sex slavery is wrong but the bible endorses it is proof that you are above the God in that book

God being glorified by our exaltation seems like something from a bad multi-level marketing pitch.

Does each exalted man into "so called" godhood, have to continue to worship the god that was before him??? If so, what a drag.... It is infinite.. work work work... Thank you Jesus!!! You did it all!!!! You saved a wretched woman like me!!!! Please LDS members, The BIBLE only . God commands all to Repent! and believe the Gospel ( IN the BIBILE) His word ... Do not follow in blind faith ... That is not Biblical faith.

We accept all the Word of God, including the Bible and modern revelation. Why should I turn my back on anything that God has revealed?
