Yikes 😬😰
I'm literally working on mine right now, I love my 240 to death, mine is like 80% stock so I only gotta chase a few gremlins with poorly done mods, my biggest problem is rust from it always being in southern Ontario
I would recommend the cefiro it basically a four door 240sx or a skyline it share the same chassis as R32 along with the front and back suspension and engine
US: nukes japan twice
Japan: NO cool cars for you
Sometimes the USA gets a better car than Japan does, but obviously the Silvia is a different story. Every Subaru WRX sold there, except for the rare 22B was given a 2.0L engine. Many American versions had a 2.5L engine.
The 1985 Nissan Maxima was an interesting case. They were unreliable as hell because they crammed a 3.0L NA V6 engine into a tiny engine bay. However, in Japan, they had to cram a 2.0L NA V6 into the same space, so I'm sure that their Maxima was far worse.
Other times it isn't Japan's fault that the USA misses out. The fuel octane here is lower, and the smog tests are tougher. I am certain that the #1 reason the Mazda RX-7TT was cancelled in 1995 was because of smog tests getting even stricter in 1996. If it wasn't, the RX-7 might have stayed in the USA for a while longer.

Yoo, you gotta import. I'm sitting over here in Japan. Trust me when I tell you that they are sitting in garages right now. I could roll through the outskirts of Tokyo right now and find a lot full of them. Alex is right though. They tune em all. If you want one, you'll need someone who knows how to inspect them. If the owner or dealer is not willing to lift the car and let you check the underbody and suspension, walk away. If your contact can't get you a video of it running and pics of the engine bay, walk away. Personally, I'd rather have an 86 or BRZ before I go for a used 240. There are plenty of those that have never seen a wall, cause the owners were never satisfied with the power output nor did they want to drop another 10k USD into one.

Back in 1993, my friend bought (well...his dad bought one for him) a brand new 1993 coupe in red with manual trans - and he was just a sophomore at highschool - got his license for 16th birthday and that was his first car. We had a blast! At our school parking lot, the import show was on virtually every day - Honda 'Lude, CRX with HKS kits, Integras with Mugens, MR2 & Celica with Akimoto systems, 200SX and 240SX Musashi, Mazda RX with blown PChargers...this was all driven by kids at our high school. I've had my 200sx RS13U (european spec, which comes with the CA18DET) for 14 years. I bought it from an 82 year old man, Mr Price, who stayed in my home town, Cape Town South Africa. He imported it brand new in 1992 from Belgium to South Africa. I bought it from him (I was the second owner from brand new) for R18 000 ($1158) in 2008, it had 78 000km (48 000 miles) Full service history, everything was OEM, including the rims, radio, sunroof bag, full tool kit and jack and some other OEM goodies from Nissan in Belgium.
After 14 years of ownership, she still puts a smile on my face, hearing the turbo and exhaust sound. Looking at her all polished and clean always makes me think what a beautiful car that Japanese made.
My 200sx still is OEM, with a full service history, original radiator, original shocks, original springs (never cut), still stock height, original rims, original midnight blue paint, the only upgrade i ever did to my car, was a stainless steel exhaust and T28/T25 turbo, original exhaust manifold, original injectors. She is making a reliable 158kws and 285nm. The current milage is a very healthy 184 000kms (114 332 miles) still full service history, i change the oil and oil filter every 5000kms (3100 miles).

Another reason you might want 240SX (S13 Liftback): Need For Speed series.
Because damn that car IS good in Underground 2 (full 100% campaign with 240SX and Escalade), Carbon (I actually completed full 100% campaign with only 240SX, including Darius) and ProStreet (Used it as a Drift Car, it was so good)...
I wonder if I'll be able to EJ-swap it, though...
Edit: slowfix
I never imagined someone would try to swap a Subaru engine into any kind of Nissan. The only Subaru swaps I ever hear of were in VWs. The Vanagon often gets a Subaru engine swap because the VW WBX engine was horrible. People can fit the Vanagon with something other than a boxer engine, however, they have to raise the engine cover and lose interior space.
@@skylinefever Yeah, it is something I just wanna try to do for shits and giggles. And if it works, I'll try to drift it.) Except that is not gonna happen in a while, unfortunately... Otherwise I'll probably leave SR20DET in it.
So you want a Datsun (240/260/280z)
Possibly feature a 280zx
My step dad has one ....Datsun 280zx turbo
I own a 1983 280zx turbo. As well. 50,000 original miles. Have always wanted a Z but the ZX’s aren’t as bad as painted out to be
One rule for the Datsun 280ZXT was that you had to idle the engine for 2 minutes after driving, otherwise the turbo would be destroyed by sludge. This was because they didn't have water cooled bearings back then, and oil technology wasn't great. Turbo timers got popular back then, that way you could get out of your car, lock all the doors, and still have the car idle for 2 minutes. This might not be needed anymore with modern synthetic oils.
I think that the 280ZX NA and turbo models required an unfolded paper clip to diagnose the check engine light, and there were no better options. I'm not sure if the car was built before really good diagnostic tools existed, or if those tools were rare and super expensive. Tools for most American cars of the time weren't too expensive and were common, and I don't know if it was caused by the market share of American cars, or if Nissan built better computerized engines than the USA. German car diagnostic tools also weren't as difficult to find. I have heard that one solution is to have a 300ZX computer reflashed to work with the 280ZX. That kind of computer had much better diagnostics. That swap also required the vane type MAF to be replaced by a heated wire MAF. That got you a few extra horsepower because a vane type MAF can be a big intake restriction when compared to a heated wire MAF. In addition, if you ever needed to replace your sensor, a heated wire MAF costs far less than a vane type MAF. Another problem was related to spark timing. The 1981 model had a different system than the 1982 and 1983 models, and it is easier to swap the 1982 and 1983 parts into a 1981, and finding parts that fit a 1981 are close to impossible. I have also heard of people using parts from the VG30E found in Maximas from 1985 to 1994.
I have heard that the digital gauges on the 280ZX and 280ZXT were a trouble spot. Often there is a "Police speedometer calibration shop" in a generic industrial park, and you can get your digital gauges repaired at an affordable price. Cars that old will even have an analog display fail, thankfully, analog displays are less expensive to fix. You might need a phone book to find it. I discovered this when working in a used car lot. I think most analog cars typically cost $150 to fix and digital ones typically cost $250 to fix.
I once had to get a new oil pressure sender for a Z31 Nissan 300ZX once, and the parts guy would have to ask which one of 4 types the car needed. I'm sure the 280ZX would have the same needs.
1. NA engine, analog gauges
2. NA engine, digital gauges
3. Turbo engine, analog gauges
4. Turbo engine, digital gauges
@@skylinefever my papa is working on the Datsun 280ZX turbo and this information would be really useful. Do you mind telling me where you found the info or if it's just knowledge? I had gone through 5 project cars by the time I was 19. 63 Nova, 64 Nova, 71 Vega with Small Block Chevy, 70 351 Cleveland cougar, 67 Cougar then ended up with a saturn, haha. After 2 years of that, I bought a pearl white 96 240sx, brand new. At this time, I was an engine machinist (7 years) for JMS Racing Engines in Monrovia Ca. I used to do all the block work for JG Engine Dynamics here in SoCal. After 3 years, I bought a new 99 mustang cobra. Ended up with a live axle swap and a blown, 500rwhp, in it's most powerful configuration, which was one of many. Then came the 87 Buick Grand National. That was fun but a total loss. After a few daily drivers, now I'm in a black Audi A4 premium with no mods.

A few years ago, someone asked "Who to blame for the R34 not being sold in the USA?" I said "Blame the guy who nerfed the Silvia and turned it into the Nissan 240SX." I felt that guy's road rage, because when I first realized what the R34 GTR was, I would do anything to get it.
I remember in 1998 I hung out with a few anime fans. We used the internet to find what was made different in the USA, and this was before Google was so influential. I didn't believe it when I read about a 2.0L turbo engine.
Although the nerfed Silvia maintained a heavy drift tax, the Mazda RX-7 Twin Turbo was even more heavily taxed. Some consider it to be the best car to drive sideways in history. Also, if it costs a fortune to repair a 240SX, then it costs an entire estate to repair an RX7TT.
I do hope to buy a Evo X MR, and hopefully by the time I can afford it, I won't be driving a car that is full of mechanical hack repairs.
so glad I got mine with me being the third owner and the original color and clean title. Of course, gotta start the process of bringing it back to life.

*No **_Letty_** wanted the 240...*
*_I_** wanted the Veilside RX-7.*
*_But now she's having twins so, we had to settle on a Hellcat Charger._*
My dad was a finance director when these cars were new, he said they collected dust mostly. Especially the convertible. His dealership had one sit on the lot for 3 years. They eventually sold it for $5k under invoice just to get rid of it.
The convertible is ugly . Was the dealer in a place far away that no one knew it existed??
I bought a s14 about 2 years ago, all the same color and 1 owner. No mods and drive it almost everyday. Well drove it everyday for the 1st year but also have a e36 coupe so I go back when driving them.
I jus found and bought, a 1991 coupe LE 58000km (30000miles) 1 owner, completely rust free and garage kept! 5speed, everything works flawlessly!
Who's had more engine swaps in/ for thier s chassis than i?
I've had a *KA24E,KA24DE,CA18DET,SR20DET,RB25DET,RB26DETT AND 2JZ VVTI.*
I have just had ka24de, no swaps. Yet
I swap out my kade for another kade lol
@@gusparra4037 rip
So well over 10k in swaps alone. Good damn.
Ka24det, Ls2, sr20det, Rb20det, Rb25det, 1jz non vvti, 2jz non vvti, rb26det, and now a 2jz vvti single turbski in process
All 100% good points. It's nearly impossible to find one in normal condition. Only way is to buy someone's junk abandoned project or riced out and full of Bondo, and then you have spend serious money if you want to make it really clean and nice. I like it but not sure if I would get into it, I'd have to have at least 20k ready that's for sure... But then there are so many options if are looking to spend that amount, you have to be a true fan I guess
Bought mine in may of 2020 1990 240sx. Still going strong with 140k. Minor stuff done, still a fancy car
I found one for $11.5k with 90k miles, clean title, had only 2 previous owners, in a nice red, no mismatched colored panels. I am happy, and ready to mod lol!!
I bought two of them in the last 6 months, both clean title, fairly stock, one s13 and one s14....and I paid $1800 for the s13, and $4500 for the s14. So thank you, Alex, I definitely needed that confidence boost this morning.
Man where did you find them?
@@hunterwiles4873 Facebook marketplaces. I'd be willing to part with the S13, if you're in the market...
@@cen7ury still owning? What state are you from?
@@aidinlayne yeah, I still have both cars, here in South Carolina
0:48 you literally have described my first few months of owning a 240sx perfectly lmao. I’m not gonna give up tho, one day it will run... I hope
how it go
@@olakvernenestkje7332 lmao it’s been good for like 2 years.
@@toddbrown4185 thats good im thinking of getting one in the future
@@olakvernenestkje7332 I love it, but good luck finding a clean one for a decent price. I thought I overpaid back in 2019, but you can barely get a shell for that price these days
Yup it is so true about the 10G for a 20 y/o car. So over price and yet I still love this car. Just like the video mention just gotta the right 240sx.
Loved Alex's intro. I drove a USDM 240 when it was new. Thought it handled beautifully, but didn't care for the powertrain.
Too many hands in the engine bay is the main problem with buying an Evo. Most have had a multitude of owners each of whom modded, then demodded the car, and the next guy did the same thing. All the while knowing virtually nothing about the platform and naturally doing his own work.
8:57 found one. Yes to all his questions
This car is *amazing*
(It's a pity that its so expensive :v)
I got my 1989 5-speed manual hatchback for $900!! It's all stock, too!
@@matthewboyea3860 how'd you find it? Fb, Craigslist, car sales websites, or in person?
@@matthewboyea3860 IMPORTED? PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW, all everybody seems to talk about is that High Schoolers buy and wreck this into a wall, I wanna clear that misjudgement from this generation onwards, with a clean one.
Most I find is 7k-25k
This made me crack a smile. Good job guys!
🙏🏼❤️
ive been waiting for this one for a while
Yoooooo that’s my footage at 7:45 ! And it just so happens....yes I do want a 240sx 😏
A Nissan 240SX video? I thought you guys already did a "so you want to LS swap your car".
My S14 was just so much fun as an autocross/street car. I miss it so much and I’ll buy another one soon
I first got my 240 when I was 15, this was 2018/2019. It’s been sitting in a garage in Texas that whole time, and this weekend, the second weekend of February 2022, I’m finally going to bring it to my house in Arkansas. Super excited to turbo the KA and not drift it into a wall.
Thats exciting to hear! Make sure to get some goodies, you know where to find us. 👀 -Edgar
this video is way to accurate.. I will some good news tho. 1yr ago i bought my first s13 for 1500 over 3 payments.... came with coil overs installed, roll cage installed, and the girl gave me an extra clutch and clutch fly...... she was having a hard time selling because people wanted to low ball her cause the car couldnt hold an idle and it was missing the glass for the rear view mirrors.
20 bucks at orileys for some cheap temproary mirrors and 30 seconds putting the idle screw back in place... now i have one of my dream cars.
drift missile tax is real but you can still find gems out there for good prices.
Finally!!!!!!!!!! And damn I got mine when I was 17😅
im on my 3rd s13 coupe and wiil always own/love these cars they are so fun to drive
Yes!!! Hoping to buy one soon
Loved all 25 of my 240sx/silvia they where always good to me even with all the people that say the sr20det had problems even though I went through only 3. But adding a turbo to the ka24de made a fun car as well. P.S. the coupe is the sexier of the cars!!! 🙌
