I have owned 3 Powerstroke Fords, more F150's than I can remember, and currently own a Mustang GT. I bought a "used" Lightning Lariat extended range ( it had 52 miles on it) 6 weeks ago, and it beats all of them. The only thing that I wouldn't do with it is tow my 14000 lb tri-axle enclosed trailer (which I no longer own anyway). It has done "truck stuff" every day since I've owned it. I haul material and/ or pull trailers almost everyday. I charge it at night on a standard 120 outlet. It uses less power than a window air conditioner. When I need a faster charge I go to one of the local charging stations, a couple of which are free. The free stations are at car dealer lots and are open to the public, so no, I'm not "stealing" electricity. It's interesting that everyone who dislikes the lightning has never driven or used one.

Thanks for taking time to comment and providing your experience. I’m currently in a 2018 Platinum 3.5 EB and I’m seriously considering a Lightning for my next truck. They are having trouble selling them (especially here in Florida) so I’m hoping to possibly get SOME deal on one. My local dealer has had the same 5 on their lot for a few weeks. My only hesitation…like almost everyone…is range anxiety. And it’s not really the range per se, gas trucks lose a ton of range when towing, too (nobody acknowledges that when dissing on EVs) but I’m more worried about FINDING a charging station when I really need one. Anyway, sorry for the long reply. Thanks again!

Never having had (or needed) a pickup, I kinda want a Lightning! From the frunk to the performance, lots of good stuff! Knob competency should be po problem. If you cannot tell a big knob from a smaller knob simply by feel, you have a serious problem! It is super to have the option to NOT take your eyes off the road to navigate a screen. You handled the range and towing realities with aplomb, demonstrating that EV pickups may not be the best choice for heavy or long haul towing. Hopefully you will test some of the others as they debut.

I was on the pre-order list for one of these and after 2 years, removed my name. They've become insanely expensive. I'm not seeing a huge ROI. Until someone can come out with a pickup in the 40-50k range that is nicely appointed with more than "ok" range, I'll stick with the gently used Tesla I opted for instead. I do miss my F150, but I don't miss filling up the 5.0 V8's tank. So far, my Model Y is ticking off all the boxes I need to have ticked for HALF of what I would've paid for the Lightening.

  • @ColJonSquall1
    @ColJonSquall1 Před rokem +4

I love how Ford and Ram are making their EV pickups like their gas equivalents, with only just small styling queues. The idea is to not fix what isn't broken, if you make it too different, it requires more expensive parts, because they're bespoke to the vehicle. My only issue is cost, up here in Canada, the lightning is almost as expensive as the Rivian starting in the early $80K range, which makes it not eligible for the federal tax credit. Some provincial will likely still have it, but the main Federal one, has a cap that states the vehicle must start below $55K, and caps out at $65K CAD.

@@gregkramer5588 You can't do simple math? Or did you really believe the consumption figures of the government, the manufacturers and all the other pro-EV fraudulent scammers like the bloggers? Did you really think they told you the full truth when they omitted many factors which affect an EVs range drastically?
-Temperature affects the battery, it has to be at optimum temperature to work properly
-The battery can overheat in use
-The battery can get too cold even when driving
-Even after just sitting for long enough the EV has to use the battery's energy to heat up the battery simply for a normal drive
-Temperature also affects charging, both speed it's able to charge at and also the losses of energy during charging. They can be absolutely horrendous effects! Especially when fast charging
-The car uses huge amounts of energy preparing for fast charging. For example Teslas can use constant 7kW for over 30 minutes (most of it before charging and some of it during charging)
-The heating up or cooling of the vehicle's cabin uses significant amounts of energy. An EVs heater and air-con are very inefficient
-EVs consume massively more than is promised in the published figures when speeds go up. Easily double when you get up to highway speeds.
-EVs consume massively more when towing of course too.
Most if not all of the above is OMITTED from the official figures. And in the corrupt government&activist misinformation. They pretend all of that doesn't exist.
This is some EV basics for you. I hope you understand how little you know about the subject before you return to arguing with people who are experts.

Oil is not a finite resource in the marketplace, there is massive amounts of it to be brought into the marketplace. If you are arguing that current "oil and gas" prices have risen due to their scarcity then that is false information and you lose. Current oil and gas prices are higher because governments, mainly the US government have decided that is what they want. It is all on record, all of us honest people who know about the subject matter have known their intentions and have seen them systematically execute their plans for a long time.
Oil is also far from the only fuel ICE cars can use. VERY far from it. And as I already stated (but you ignored due to your repeated dishonesty): electricity prices skyrocketing from the dictatorial, non-democratic forcing of everyone into EVs hasn't even really begun yet. The MASSIVE price hikes have yet to even begin. ALL of the energy now used by ICE vehicles will have to be shouldered by new power plants, and it's certain that governments will not be able to handle that...nor do they even want to necessarily since they have literally said that they feel higher electricity prices are good and necessary. Many, many politicians make money with higher electricity prices.

I have read all the published papers, and a few non-scientific ones, at least up until about 6 months ago. I have also analysed them and in several cases even researched their background and funding sources.
None have been anything else than totally erroneous, and all except for one have been pretty much purely fraudulent. Many had incredibly dishonest premises, base values, comparisons. Things like taking an absolutely ancient naturally aspirated 2.0 ICE engine to compare against the best possible modern EV just to get the EV to seem better, when basically all modern ICE engines in that category would've been about 1.5 turbo engines.
None have taken into account (properly) the TRUE consumption of EVs. None have taken into account the plugged-in and non-driving consumption. Thrown aside charging losses, battery heating losses, even cabin heating needs! None have taken into account the higher consumption and higher charging losses even during fast charging compared to slow AC charging, let alone the massively higher consumption when the battery is not at optimum temperature!
None have taken into account the effect of the MASSIVE cost of EVs. Their cost to society with their horrendously high subsidies, tax breaks, need for MILLIONS of chargers, trillions in grid work and new power plants. Then there's the fact that even while already massively cheaper ICE users also pay MASSIVE amounts of taxes (in yearly taxes, tariffs, fees and especially massive amounts in fuel taxes) even then! All that tax revenue will have to be replaced, meaning the tax burden of EV drivers has to go up...a lot!
The UN climate panel has concluded that a nation's wealth is the most important, most reliable determinant in how well they are able to actually reduce their CO2 emissions. It's very clear that any nation that decimates their wealth with incredibly expensive, and then -> electricity price raising, then -> inflation causing EVs and policies to force them upon everyone, that the nation will in the end lose much of their ability to invest in actually effective CO2-reducing measures.
Those research papers previously mentioned, which are severely fraudulent, even with their fraudulent figures clearly prove without any doubt that at least about 30% if not 40% of cars are cleaner as ICE cars than EVs due to that amount of cars driven so little per year, so much below average. So why on earth should they be replaced with EVs? Cars not driven much per year are better overall for the environment as ICE cars even with purely fossil fuel!
And on top of all that there's the issue of alternatives: ICE cars already are run on average with more than 5% biofuel content. Many nations have lots of cars running on (very cheap compared to EVs) biofuels, and soon also on e-fuels.
The researchers of Ffe München (funded by major European electric grid companies, electric power plant companies, EV supplier companies and an EV manufacturer) published a study in which they showed (with EV-favouring false figures) that ICE cars fulled with fossil natural gas are cleaner overall than EVs.
Now consider the fuels that ICEs can be run on which are significantly cleaner than fossil natural gas: HVO biodiesel, biomethane, bioethanol and e-fuels!
So there isn't even any reason at all to force anyone onto EVs as they have higher CO2 emissions than ICE cars run on even a mix of bio- or e-fuels and fossil fuels! Let alone when driven on purely bio- and e-fuels! HVO biodiesel for example is proven to have 75-90% less emissions than fossil diesel, which makes it incredibly much lower in emissions than EVs!!
So the facts are not just against EVs, but massively against them.

I'd only be interested in seeing EV reviews if you first add up ALL the costs EVs will cause to consumers and all taxpayers. That's including the multi-trillion bills for:
    -The millions of chargers
-ALL the subsidies to consumers as well as manufacturers in every way, including all the "R&D" subsidies, re-tooling subsidies, tax breaks, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
-The replacement for lost tax revenues when people move to EVs and no longer pay taxes for their vehicles nor their fuel... Those TRILLIONS need to be replaced from somewhere, and we all know it's us who is paying every cent.
-The huge reworking of the electric grid
-All the new power plants needed
-The huge costs which come when millions of tons of EV batteries which aren't recycled properly (of course they're not, why would people want to pay for that out of pocket?) need to be taken up by taxpayers, plus the massive damages which WILL be caused by the massive amount of batteries not recycled.
-All the costs when the politicians and public sector make mistakes, fail to make things work smoothly, fail to have power plants built at the rate needed, take "their cut" = massive corruption. This includes the skyrocketing electricity prices which will just increase inflation as absolutely everything that needs electricity will become a lot more expensive. Then there's the costs when things can't get done due to outages.

      @gregkramer5588 Před rokem +1

Do not forget to balance it with the damage done by the emissions from the ICE vehicles and the damage done from the extraction of oil. BTW the electric grid rework is not big, nor is the number of new plants. The grid is sized for peak AC usage. The increase in capacity only has to be related to how much EV charging happens during that peak.

@@gregkramer5588 What damage? You don't know anything about this subject matter. Your reply was just a collection of made-up lies.
Modern ICE cars do not do any damage. First of all ICE cars can be run on carbon-neutral fuel. Second of all modern ICE cars run incredibly cleanly when looking at the emissions harmful to humans. It has been proven long ago that modern ICE passenger cars clean dirty city air. But many years ago it was proven by studies, I could link to a German study for example but it's not allowed here, that modern ICE passenger cars not only clean air classed as 'dirty', but now with the newest emissions regulations requiring particulate filters they even further clean air which is classed as 'clean' by scientists! I even carry that study's graphs in my phone ready to show anyone.
You don't know what you're talking about. EVs are run on electricity produced in power stations which are proven to pollute very much and have been scientifically proven to have a measurable effect on the health of people. Meanwhile the liars try to trick people by talking about "those emissions out there from traffic" as if they're caused by modern passenger cars. They're not. The overwhelming majority of air pollution comes from industry (like power plants) and HEAVY commercial vehicles...not to mention OLD vehicles. The share of pollution coming from the vehicles you're supposed to compare to EVs = MODERN ICE VEHICLES is totally irrelevant, it's so small.

      - Replacement for lost tax revenue, what replacement? There is an average of $0.03 cents for each kilowatt hour, so...
      - Subsidies will lessen and probably disappear over time, as EVs become more commonplace. You may be spooking yourself a wee bit early on that one
      - The National Grid is already behind in its maintenance, so here's something to spur it on. Except for Texas. Don't know what Texas is going to do.
      - when the politicians and public sector make mistakes, fail to make things work smoothly, fail to have power plants built at the rate, yadda, yadda, yadda... They do that know, with gas leases, drilling, etc. Again, mistakes will be made, corrected, and we're off to the races.
Look, I'm not an EV disciple, but I'm keen on the idea of EVs as part of an auto manufacturer's portfolio. It's going to take a long while to move to EVs, but I'd be more concerned that ICE cars are now being priced in such a way that eventually only those who can, will own one, and the rest will have to make do with carpooling or mass transit (which isn't always a recipient of good investment).
