    I tried to do all this on my mower following the D110 manual. Took over four times as long as this video. His instructions are exactly correct and very well organized. I’d rate this video five stars out of five. How I wish I’d seen it long ago. Thanks for the best maintenance instructions!

    I've been having issues with my D110 (second hand). I changed the oil and the blades but left the old spark plug and fuel filter since they looked good. (I am a total noob at this, btw.) Watching this video and the way you introduced all of the needed tools and your step-by-step instructions, I will be taking her apart this weekend with your video on pause for every step. Thanks for an amazing video that makes a noob like me feel like they can do it too!🔧🚜

Great editing to make it quick and clean. No distracting music, background noise or wasted commentary (Eric O commentary excepted). Great tips to make it easier and better. Excellent video. I bought a S100 from Lowe's this year an didn't get an owners manual. This video helps a lot! I had no idea about all the grease fittings. Now I feel like I know exactly what needs to be done to get the mower ready for each season. The deck leveling instructions can be used now, because I think I'm already getting some uneven cuts. Lowe's probably didn't adjust that when they put the unit together. Thanks for posting this.

    You are my HERO - highly competent and effective, positive proof "where there's a will there's a way". A little reminiscent of the long lever arms that were on the walls at the US Army Anniston Depot where tanks were manufactured and repaired in WWII, and the work force was 90% women. They made it work. I really LOVE the way you lay out what is needed for the work. The warning about CHEAP (poor quality - no other way to put it) bonnet hinges - excellent point. "If you don't, you gotta do what you gotta do" -- love it. Good to know how to remove the mower deck -- I do so seasonally as a snow blade is installed.

    A drill with a wire wheel will clean up the blade nuts before you try to remove them. I sharpen blades b4 installing. Clean and/or replace the w-ring at the oil drain. Blow the air filter out from the inside out. I run much less air in the tires for a smother ride. Set the deck @ 3.5 or 3.75 and slide a 2x4 under each side of the deck, up. Then just lower/raise the deck to snug. You are using the 3.5" side of the wood as a feeler gauge to set the deck. If you use the deck gauges, just buy two and use them both at the same time. It will same time and hassle of moving around. (I've got 4, but that's me.) Oh, and if you use long enough 2x4s, when removing or installing the deck, use the wood laying down the 1.5" way so you don't have to lift the deck to hook the hangers. Also a little easier to drag deck around. Good vid!

    Great video. I believe I have a bad vacuum issue with mine and I just replaced my pump. I noticed it doesn't go toward the front of the motor to the cover, but to the oil dipstick. Does that mean I could get a no pump issue if low on oil? We need a video for just fuel pump troubleshooting on this odd motor!

      Check to see if you have a electric fuel shut off valve under the carburetor. You will know you have one if you see a cylinder looking round object with a wire sticking out of it under the carburetor which is below the air filter. To check this you must have the emergency brake on and listen very carefully turn the key from off to on and listen for a click at the solenoid. keep
      turning the key often on and you should hear that click if you do not you may have bad wiring or a bad fuel shut off solenoid. Fuel pumps hardly ever go bad. Also check to make sure your fuel cap vent is clear

    • @theoverlanddisciple
      @theoverlanddisciple Před 2 lety

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines thanks I'll check those things. I did have the electric fuel shut off and I pulled it off and removed the black tip to ensure fuel would flow, but I never saw anything. I kept trying to "prime" it so to speak and the motor locked up! I did hear a loud bang, so I'm sure I slung a rod. May be the end for this old gal! 🤣

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 2 lety

      Pull the spark plug out and see if the engine will crank over make sure the ignition wire is away from the spark plug hole and if fuel comes out of the hole then you have a Carburetor issue. If nothing comes out of the hole then you may have a locked motor.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 2 měsíci

      I use a very light oil 0/20and do not over oil it. My opinion, It is important to oil the pre-filter so it will collect and keep the dust particles from entering the engine.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks for your reply - I think you were meaning just applying the blade operation lever when you were installing the deck belt - so doing so was just to take up tension in the belt? Also (because I tend to be heavy handed when tightening up nuts etc, I always use a torque wrench - got myself into much trouble in the past by not using one)! So, can you please tell me what the correct JD D110 nut torques are for the spindle pully nut and the four spindle to deck screws which can't find posted anywhere on the net and JD wants $140 for the service manual; which IMO is just plain extortion!!!! Appreciate your help please. Cheers, Ian

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před rokem

      I only use a torque wrench on items that must be torqued per instructions. The only way you will be able to find the torque values on every nut and bolt is to find a torque value chart for nuts and bolts. Then you will need to find out what size bolt or nut and the hardness of the bolt or nut, then go to the chart for the torque. I would suggest trying find a chart online to help you.

      Make sure the engine speed is at full when your running the deck or the deck will shake more. Did it shake from new?? If yes then most likely it’s a normal shake. If no then what happened to make it shake? The S100 is a very generic tractor, lighter weight, thinner material that may make it shake more then a heavier gauge machine.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      Black smoke normally means to much gas. Maybe your running with the throttle in the choke position or the choke is sticking in the on position. Also too much oil is not good. Make sure the oil level is between the dots on the oil dip stick.
