I love the Bills and was praying for days when Hamlin went down… Bills are not a fundamentally sound team. they made a lot of mistakes/turnovers vs the fins and I knew it would haunt them vs the bengals, and unfortunately for all of us I was right… Maybe if Allen can cut down on the turnovers next year will be their year.
At least the Bills didn't talk trash on the Chiefs before losing to them, and even I as a Chiefs fan was starting to call bs on some of the penalties that benefited us tonight

@@connorstone it wasn’t the refs fault, stop it. Bengals had plenty of opportunities to win that game, in fact, the last two drives ended in an INT and a punt. I watched the game again - Chiefs had 2 TD’s called back, OPI wasn’t called three times, a phantom taunting call that negated points. There was several calls that didn’t go chiefs way. BUT, bcuz the calls that didn’t go Bengals way were so obvious, everyone is only paying attention to those. The reality is, there are always going to be calls that are controversial in every NFL game as long as there is a human element to this game

Honestly he wasn't even the problem, it was the events leading up to that play. Punting the ball in bounds and letting it be run back for as far as it was... Just not acceptable.

The "5th down" where the time keeper messed up the play clock that's not on the Chiefs. Besides they did nothing with it and punted 3 plays later. Had no affect on the outcome, you're just complaining to complain at this point.

Bengals fan here. I was at Arrowhead and you basically 100% nailed everyone's reactions to this game. Neither fanbase was happy about this game until the last 8 seconds, then at least one of them was happy.
Both understood the refs were far too engaged in this game.

I have been a soccer referee for 13+ years and a multi-sport official for 5+ years(Baseball and Basketball) and I am not claiming to be a football rules expert but I have been a fan of Football for 20+ years and have always been interested in the rules of football and possibly being a football referee
I am all for acknowledging that refs are human, and that they will miss calls. I know I've missed calls when I've officiated but I also have been held accountable for those mistakes whether it was not getting certain assignments, being corrected by mentors after the game etc.
I am also a Bengals fan so this may come off as Bias...
This has been the worst officiated game that I have witnessed and it was on one of the top 3 biggest games of the year
Not only were there missed calls, but there was such inconstancies within the game on what was a foul and what was not i.e. holding on the Bengals wasn't for KC, Blocks in the back not called on KC, DPI not called on KC but called on CIN, no one knowing the play was blown dead when all the refs have communication devices (similar to ones I have used before) that you can hear over loud crowds that should've stopped the play before it was started
I disagree with Tom and Perna about different crews focusing on different calls but I do think consistency in the same crew is an issue...its part of the human element of the game
I feel that there needs to be something here whether its the NFL coming out and saying its all planned a la WWE, or there needs to be a serious investigation on the situation because the AFC Champ game was anything but fair. The refs need to be held accountable or the League needs to come out as it isn't purely a football game.
I have never been an "NFL Is Rigged" or "Robo umps/refs are the future" kind of person but after the atrocious game that was called this evening had me thinking that one of those might be true

As a baseball umpire of 19 years now and having a passing interest in the rules of Football, I second the sentiment of 'this was the worst officiated games I have ever seen', and I lived through the Steelers vs Seahawks SB, where the refs screwed the Hawks over and cost us the game. Even then, the officiating was nowhere nearly as biased as it was in favor of KC (especially at the 4th quarter. Holy crap it was bad).

I'm glad the Chefs.. Chiefs won but it's scary to think that these are the seasons good refs.
They didn't do that though. They messed up the clock so the ref came running in to stop the play but no one could hear the whistle.

As a Bengals fan, the loss stings, but it was a fantastic season. I wasn't counting but 10 straight wins is something I never could have imagined when i first started watching them in 20... 15? Especially since the first game I watched from them was a loss to the Cardinals. Overall, though, it was a close game and sets up for a thrilling Super Bowl between the top seeds of both conferences and the AFC is represented well. I don't know whether or not Cincinnati will be due with a Super Bowl for a while, but for now I'm just happy being a winning team.
Yes. The Bengals had a fantastic season. Our schedule this year was hard, but we gave it all this year. 10 straight wins was amazing. I remember getting to the playoffs and never winning to just having a losing record and being known as the bungles always. This was a great game between great teams. I'm truly happy to a winning team!
While I don't know how much would've changed, I thought this game was lopsided in reffing against the Bengals. Especially that Repeat 3rd down that the refs did a poor job of communicating lol. Regardless, Burrow is great and that team will be back. This is from a Ravens fan. Good luck!

This game was absolutely FIXED!!!!
Yes! I can see as a Jaguars fan I feel exactly that reaction. We got past the first round in the playoff after barely making it to the playoffs in the first place. We hadn't gone to the playoffs in so long and it was longer still since we had a victory in the post season. And I think this might have been only the second time Jacksonville hosted a playoff game. It just felt good to be there for the party in the post season.

The Bengals tried their best, but in the end, it really wasn’t a surprise they lost when playing against two teams in one game; the Chiefs and the officiating team. Once Goodell saw that the Eagles (go birds btw) won their game, he felt the better story was to have the Kelce Bowl, and thus the script took effect.
Did you forget the entire first half of the game? Where the refs were gutting the Chiefs.

The only thing I can remember off the top of my head is that pass to Toney(?) that was (correctly) ruled incomplete in the end zone. Unlike the Eagles game where we got away with a missed call on that Smith “catch” early on 4th&3, I think the officials got this one right. That being said, at the end of the day sometimes you have to just take poor officiating on the jaw and gut out a win regardless and the Bengals failed to do it. The true reason the Bengals lost was because they have a crap o-line and couldn’t protect Burrow.

I’m calling it now, the Eagles blow out the Chiefs 42-7. The Chiefs do not have the health or the manpower to do a thing against a top-shape Eagles. Even Mahomes’s magic has its limits.
@Jackson Studer the Bengals lost because of foolish play calling and dumb penalties. They had many opportunities to run away with the game, and wasted all of them because of penalties or stupid calls by the offensive coordinator. The Eagles made it clear they don’t make those kinds of mistakes. They also have their full roster back to fill health, while the Chief’s receiving core is down to backups aside from Kelce and Valdes-Scantling, and Mahomes’s knee likely won’t be at full health for the super bowl (it was very clearly an issue during the championship, which is why he had to sit in the pocket 90% of the time and check down instead of mixing in deep shots like normal). The battered Chiefs are going against a fully healthy Eagles that have a better defense and an arguably better offense, an Eagles team that has proven it isn’t prone to boneheaded mistakes like those of the Bengals, Bills, and even the Jaguars during their divisional game. I’m not usually one to count Mahomes out, but I’m also not one to ignore facts just because “hE bEaT tHe OdDs BeFoRe”.
Mind you, two years ago Mahomes with far better weapons lost by a landslide to a Brady/Bucs team that was objectively worse comparatively to the current Eagles. Mahomes has magic, but as I said, even he has his limits.
@Jackson Studer I would love for the Chiefs to prove me wrong. I’m a fan of both the Chiefs and the Eagles. I’d love for it to be a close game. But I’m also not gonna ignore the facts of the current situation.
And just cause someone points out the obvious weaknesses for the Chiefs doesn’t mean they aren’t a fan or that they’re bitter the Chiefs won. It’s perfectly reasonable for a fan to be worried about the health and strength of their team, and I’d find it weird and foolish for any fan of any team to blindly believe that their team will overcome any odds and always win when it matters.
